3. Re the "size and the weight" issue. You acknowledge that a lot of it's bulk is the shock protection, and that "most people are not going to be needing excessive shock protection". But that's the point, MOST people are, for that reason, going to buy a different watch - one with less protection and consequently smaller and lighter. However if you DO need a watch with extensive shock protection, you expect it to be a more substantial watch... like this one? :-)
1. A little under-rehearsed and I found the constantly moving camera irritating.
2. Commenting on the leftmost zero being distorted. I understood this was a trade off as that digit spends most of it's time being (a) not used, or (b) a "1", and that some of the space was sacrificed to maximize the remainder of the display. My point is the supposition "...that's cos they ran out of room on the display" may be your opinion - rather than a known fact?
@neotoy Reviews should have a basic understanding of the design, marketing, audience, etc. of the respective product. Research. This particular watch is part of their "military stealth" themed line. In keeping with theme the reverse LCD is there specifically because of its low conspicuity. The "drab" LCD layer & segmented time are there to keep costs down. The shortened 1st digit only needs space to display a 1 or a 2. Ruggedness is also preferred. These are not "cons" for a MIL themed watch.
most of your critizisums were about its intended use for the military and to be beat up and not be bright and flash. you just critizized a tank for being green and weighing a lot :( good review minus that though
@latuman I can assure that this watch (at least version 1.0) does not have that feature, once the auto EL has been switched on, it stays on until you manually switch it off.
I was just quoting the manual. And your post makes no sense. I've owned this watch for a year now and I live in an area that gets very little sun. With the auto EL turned off it easily lasts 8 months without any kind of intentional charging.
"Frequent display illumination can run down the battery quickly and require charging. The following guidelines give an idea of the charging time required to recover from a SINGLE illumination operation. Approximatly 5 minutes exposure to bright sunlight coming in through a window." So there is really now way 5 minutes of direct sunlight will charge it for 8 months.
... Clearly the manual is technically correct. The maximum run time is approximately 8 months on a single charge, assuming that the EL is not used. I can confirm this from actual use of the product.
With EL used the battery will of course run down dramatically faster.
I've noticed it only seems to work in one direction, and it's not very sensitive. TBH I've turned it off a long time ago because it drains the battery.
hey is it easy to take off the watch links by yourself? because i dont wanna go all the way to a watch store just to get it done (I have a think wrist)
hey bro...i was looking through ebay and amazon and the model number is GWM 5600-1...and it shows the letters in white that say "protection g shock" and i was woundering is this the same watch u have bcuz u have the "BC" right after the 5600 .... bcuz i really that the letters dont show like urs in this video .......thanks in advance
My Casio watch sucks! The light button is on the wrong side, the commands are vague and ambiguous, and it's too easy to hit buttons by accident. My watch went off at 2am (2 in the morning!!!) today and it pissed me off. This never happened with my Timex watches. Timex offered the same exact commands and features but the buttons were very obvious what they are supposed to do. Casio can't seem to get a simple watch right. Casio sucks!
Wrong side? Is that like sometimes the spoon is backwards? The first part of your comment sounds mostly like operator error. But I will say this, I have experienced some ambiguity in the commands also, and you're right Timex does do a better job in general with associating the functions with the buttons. I recommend RTFM, or go get yourself a Timex!
Wrong side means that it's on the left instead of the right. Most people use their thumb more easily to press the button if its located on the right. It's not operator error. It's just that I don't like hitting the vague buttons x-amount of times then switch buttons again and press some more simply to turn the alarm on or off or set it. Timex does a superior job of placing the buttons in the right order.
1) You're kinda wrong, but maybe my terminology is at fault. Pixel style, not actual pixels, as I pointed out in the video this watch uses both segmented and 'pixel' style characters.
2) See above.
I bought the G-Shock because it was (at the time) the only watch class offering both solar power and atomic time. The whole point of a constructive critical analysis is to spur further innovation and improvement.
I did realize the poor visibility, once again the other features limited my choices.
LOLLL u should have went to a jeweler to get the links taken out, u prob did it wrong even if u think u did it rite, plus u have to take some off each side so its even..
I've taken off and added links on both sides several times now. It's really not that complicated.. The links and the spring loaded pins that hold them together are well designed. You should try to be more independent, otherwise you will always have to get other people to do simple tasks for you.
well ya thats true but i have only gone to jewelers for my bulova and my rolex my dad bought for me but be aware u can mess up the watch by doing it ur self
- The watch doesn't set itself 6 times daily, upon the first successful sync of the day, the watch no longer attempts to retrieve a signal.
- I noticed you pretty much said it had too many features, which I believe isn't a valid criticism; there are plenty of similar offerings from Casio with much more basic features at a lower price (DW-5600E; $40, very basic G-Shock, same style).
- Size: there's a solar panel and antenna in that watch . . .
It tries to set itself up to 6 times if there's an error.. so it is 6 times potentially.
I didn't say it had too many features, I was pretty clear. I said the interface was cluttered. Big difference.
Also, the size is due to the excessive shock protection, not the solar panel and antenna, which take up a relatively small footprint. Go to their flash site, you can see an exploded view, it's quite enlightening.
i want the camo version of that watch! it certainly has slightly less clutter on the screen (not the lcd dispaly, i mean the text print) and i think its lighter as well as it is not st.steel not sure tho. or i can get the titanium version too. or i like the mudman as well but i cant decide :P

Can you adjust the date and time of this watch manually, or is it entirely reliant on the wireless updates?

@TheProgrammer93 Yes you can, but I presume that once it acquired a signal whatever time you had set would be overwritten by the correct time.

My G-Shock also has the auto illumination feature, HOWEVER when enabled, it will be automatically disabled after 6 hours.
It eats a lot of battery, so thats the reason. I'd imagine this watch does the same.

56 Hours of direct sunlight
208 hours of sunlight through a window
338 hours of daylight through a window on a cloudy day
The module will never reach a full state of charge with indoor fluorescent lighting alone.

MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE EXPECTATIONS:
1)You wanted a pixel digit display for time.
This would require a bigger/thicker CPU for the watch.
2)However, you were not satisfied because the
watch could have been thinner. ???
A couple more things:
A thick watch is a given if you are asking for G-Shock. If you don't need shock protection, you should not have purchased that watch.
You should have realized that poor
visibility is a given (before) purchasing
a white on black display watch.
