to everyone arguing over whether should the bearded dragon be on sand or not this really all i have to say. though you can have a bearded dragon on sand its not recommended, but it does not mean that its a 100% guarantee that it will cause impaction. but owners who do keep there bearded dragon on sand are cautioned to keep a very close eye on there reptile and if any signs of impaction then please have it checked out by a vet. this beardie seems strong and happy, so what ever works, works.
Our Male Beardie is on sand and has never ingested any of it and we also have our Frilled Dragon on sand and trees they are both fine and dont lick it.
@todd123ification As long as the owner is aware of the problems that may occur and the dragon isnt eating the sand its perfectly fine. I do not use sand myself but I dont see a problem with it as long as you know what your Beardie is doing.
sand is perfectly fine its natural for your bearded dragon to ingest some substrate but to much is harmful and if sand is so harmful how have they survived in the wild for so long ... yea sand can be harmful but not its fine if he isnt getting mouthfuls everyday so yea if you use sand and complain that much then feed them in a seperate container
he's right, Beardies are from deserts and there's sand so that means they supposed to get used to the sand as if there in the desert, except there getting free food!!
I love these idiots that say "dont put sand in a tank"
You are all morons. There is nothing wrong with the sand. the only thing in the same that can harm them are organisms, that infect their body (parasites).
Impaction is really only a concern for babies. Babies kinda dig there eat into the ground. They tend to chomp onto there prey as opposed to adults, who are more experienced, that snatch more with there tongues. An adult on sand isn't much of a concern.
@Archangel0582 you should change your sand to repti carpet, cuz it will cause impaction, and if they are overfed they can get temporarily paralyzed so feed about 7 a day with lots of salad. also you have a nice looking beardie it would be a shame if it died from paralysis.
@KevinIsM8ig it is so anoying when people say dont use sand for beardies it is safe for them, sand is there natural substrate in the wild and when lizards are big enough like a beardie it can pass through there system safely, god its always amateurs who say that cause they hear its dangerouse for some lizards and then they think they know everything, god its anoying!

@Uhmari You are fucking retarded. Sand can cause impaction and cause eye problems, scale, and other thigns.
Chrisgarelli2 4 months ago
@Chrisgarelli2 what about in the wild? I know they'd die as well but it's natural for them. Dragons love to dig
ZTDragoness 4 months ago
@ZTDragoness You can have a dig box for them. In their natural enviorment they come across sand, clay, compacted dirt, ect.

also make sure you change your flousecent bulb every six months cuz inactivity in your beardie could be caused by a lack of vitamin d and calcium
