  • sad expert village with theyre average 1 min 30 sec videos does not deserve credit for this video. Notice he doesn't say "for expert village" after saying his name.

  • guys in the back couldnt stfu for 4 minutes, huh?

  • if you change the strings dose it make the bass sound different

  • @TheBobohj yes. some are brighter sound than others. all depends on the tone you want.

  • What kind of bass is this?

  • @analyticalw does look an awful lot like mine. Mine is an Ibanez GSR 180 MGT, a solid beginners affordable bass :3 but then again, i might be wrong. Hope i helped :3

  • @SinisterGrapefruit its definately a yamaha, because there's a yamaha logo on the headstock.

  • Demonstration is what we want from ExpertVillage. Good vid!

  • 1:32 theres a robot fapping in the backround...

  • Steve Ballmer? LOL!

  • No One will rest

  • Never thought it would be so easy to string a guitar?

  • Comment removed

  • @randompersondumaine if you dont know what tension is you shouldnt be re-stringing your guitar in the first place :l

  • so its hard to tune your guitar in what way? XD

  • good instructional video steve. Keep up the good work

  • really helpful, that was all i wanted to know

  • super helpful, thanks for posting

  • @bassmaggot666 there is a button in the bottom right corner of the vid that looks like a CC in a square. click on it and the text will magically go away :3

  • thank you :) good video.

  • Well i ahve done this but my strings rub against the fret board eny help?their tight

  • @bassmaggot666 stop whining, you metal poser.

  • very useful!!!!!! I LOVE BASS GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:58 Thats what she said

  • @XboxPhantom @Libano603

    LOL, wow.

  • thanks for the help bro

  • This would be a lot better if I could see what you were doing instead of just staring at text. Perhaps you should rename this video "Bass Stringing for the Deaf" since you seem you assume we can't hear you,

  • super info thanks alot!!! ;)

  • Whats up with the tapping in the background

  • @ivoryspades13 nice

  • I once wrote a little text in HTML on how to restring a bass. I'm cool on some of the things you say, but there is no single "right way" to do it. Also in my opinon you leave off some important stuff and you stop exactly where it becomes interesting. So there is a new string and it's at the right pitch for the first time, now what? Next string? I disagree. Also please use a new string if your want to show how a restring a bass, not a used one..

  • when i was replacing my E a bit of the nut broke off.luckily i have some super glue

  • the subtitile blocks the whole screen i cant see shit

  • I broke my E string by just playing alot i think, it didnt snap into two bits it just kinda unwinded abit and it caused to much slack to even play the string, and the bit that it unwinded on was the nut of the bass, so im just wondering if there is any problem with my bass nut? oh btw the string where abit old

  • exact same bass as mine :)

  • @PivitalProductions How can you tell? I can't see anything but text.

  • @TuberOnTheLoose

Same head, same first strings (with the red stuff on them) and its a yamaha :) might not be same colour, same bridge, same pickup placement same knobs :D

  • Thanks you saved me money!

  • He's wrong, you should never cut the strings, that will change the intonation more than having a string that is too long. You should also just buy the right length of string.

  • @jwern151 if you've already strung it then cutting the string won't matter.

  • @jwern151 your a moron

  • @normajeanbmx you're*

  • @jwern151

Cutting the string is perfectly OK and will not change the intonation. The intonation is affected by the speaking length of the string. The distance from the nut to the bridge.

any string after the nut has nothing to do with the intonation.

  • thats what she said

  • nice tatoo dude :)))

  • thanks i'll try that

  • can I string a guitar with bass strings???

  • no you can't cause the strings are too big for guitar tuners :)

  • @Jujucaster1

but if I drill bigger holes into the tuners??

I have an old crap, cheap guitar on wich

I wanna put fender bass VI strings...its a

    les paul copy...I that possible?

  • @KedmenecMartin if you really don't care about that guitar then try whatever you want, but a guitar isn't designed to receive bass strings

  • @Jujucaster1

    oke,tnx bro

    I'll try that... :D

  • No, it won't intonate correctly. You'd be better off by just..buying a bass.

  • nooooooo dont even try itlll warp your neck D=

  • lols ur neck will break cuz bass string has more tension cuz of thicker string..If u hav strong neck go ahead Ps I Mayb Wrong

  • i am a beginner bass player. i tried restringing my bass with the top post's method and i seriously broke 2 sets of strings. i used this utah guy's method and i restrung my bass in like 5 minutes. so thanks and good job!

  • thanks helped me alot (3 years w/o swithcing strings made me forget how to)

  • which are those strings in the video?

  • Que marca es buena para tocar blues?

  • Yo no toco blues, pero creo que podrías usar Ernie Ball Extra Slinky si no quieres cambiar la afinación. Dave LaRue lo usa.

  • Hey thanks for the video, it helps with some dudes!

To BoomeHz: if you play all the days of the year is necesary change the strings every four months, but I make this every year. Well it's a question of kind of strings too.

  • dude, idk when i should change strings,i play about a hour to a hour an 1/2 aday-can anyone help me out?

  • When was the last time you got new strings? Someone told me to change about 3-4 times every year, which Im sticking too.

  • It all depends what style you play - if its slap then yeah maybe 3-4 times a year, otherwise I'd say once every year and a half max if you like dead strings.

    Probably bi-yearly...

  • you ll know when u need to change your strings

  • Just put DR Extra Life 'Hot Pink' bass strings on my ibanzez. Sounds awesome! Would recomend them to anyone with an ibanez bass! oh, and also 'Badass II' Pickups. Gives it that deep 'Fieldy' Tone!

  • if you talk about musique i play a fusion music and funk so what kind of string shold i use ? thx a lot

  • Well it all depends on the sound you are looking for and the feel its really all personal. I play that style of music I use Elixirs. They hold up really well, they will last forever and I feel like I have a little more of a mid punch.

  • I use elixir too for all my guitar needs. I mean they are not really expensive yet they are deemed the best strings. I've just started out on bass and so far havent had to replace the strings. Almost 7 months now. Even the tone stays bright.

  • plizzz how can a chose the right string for my bass guitar i mean what king of sting shold i use for my bass guitar??? thx u

  • dont take the cheepest and keep trying ;) it has to fit to your style .

  • My favorites are the Ernie Ball Power Slinky strings, but it really depends on what music you want to play. The power slinky strings give me a nice low end with a bit of an edge to it. Experiment with different types, but I recommend Ernie Ball. Other stings I've tried just haven't given me the tone I want.

  • What type of strings are these?

  • just put new light steel round wound Addagios .. on my bass... night and day! ... exact crisp sound i was looking for!

  • i haven re strung my bass for 2 years

  • Nor have I; you should though, it'll improve your tone (which you wont have noticed deteriorating)

  • @Xais56 Yeah haha my brother has a guitar which hasn't been restrung for 5 years, and it's a crappy yamaha, really cheap. Still sounds fine. Although I recently restrung my bass and man what a difference :)

  • Thanks for the vid! Really helpful and explanatory!

  • i used some thick ass strings though boomers 115

  • thats the same bass i got. i tried to re- string

the same way i do with my guitar and i broke the nut. i should of watch this shit first

  • Its suggested that you dont take off all the strings when re-stringing so you dont fuck the neck or w/e, does this apply to Guitars aswell ? and if so how the hell am i meant to give the fret board a clean ?

  • a good point. i'm guessing that you take strings off one by one and get a cleaning tool to clean the section under each string. i'm no expert but from what this guy is saying that is what i would do.

  • hmm it may apply to guitars its just because with all the strings gone you are getting rid of a lot of tension on the neck and that can cause the neck to bow.

you need to be careful with basses because they have such thick strings and there is a lot of tension there so it may apply to guitars too but not to the same extent as with a bass

  • thank you very much ;)

  • this is the only useful expert village video..

  • is it essential that you cut the strings cuz i didnt do so for mine.

  • thanks

  • 2:24 thats what she said

  • this worked perfect, just strung my first bass off of this video, thanks!

  • i recently just bought a right handed 5 string,im a left handed player. just wondering what else will i have to do to make the guitar work better retstrung i know i need to get a new nut but what else?

  • if only i saw this earlier i wouldnt of broken my new G string.

    fuck

  • lol, i broke 2 d strings the first time i tried to restring mine.

  • wtf, you broke your bass strings?!? you must have done something terribly wrong then

  • the um tunning part im a beginner and i have been playing for 1 month now so im new and ive gotten better

  • ok fair enough

  • u prolly dont need to change strings in 1 month of using them unless u got like a used bass

  • this was a reaaally good video. is there any other video on how to stretch your strings unlike the one in expert village where the guy is just yanking on his bass

  • fuck, i jus broke both my strings

  • you forgot the "T" in just

  • I love how you zoom in on random unimportant parts. Also what the hell is that in the background?!?

  • God what a dumb shit clip the string after you put it in.

  • Thats mainly with the Guitar. The bass, you cut it just in case its longer than the guitar.

  • WOW! Your vid was the best I found. I just bought my first new set of strings...and was totally confused. This is awesome. Thanks!!

  • do you always have to cut the ends off before you put it into the tuning peg ?

  • The strings I'm about to install don't have the threaded ends. The stock strings on my bass have the threaded ends. Will that do anything?

BTW, I'm replacing one string, not the entire set.

  • you have to change them all when one snaps

thats what tells you the strings are old and need to be changed

the others will snap very soon if you dont change em all

  • tnx i bought a set of bass strings as my first time so i gonna switch em. tnx

  • Thanks that was kick ass. I've been playing guitar for 30 yrs and just got a Bass and broke a string. I messed up one set of strings. Thanks for the proper way of restringing.

    GPS

  • when i feed the string through it pops out a little bit at the end because the string is to think.. is it still ok?

  • where can i find a video on hwo to string an electric guitar with the same type of machine heads. If anyone knows please let me know it will me much appriciated

    Thanx Tom

  • he must be a real music man. look at that tattoo. lol

  • lol, good observation

  • Very good tutorial. Do you always turn the tuning peg in the same direction when wrapping the string?

  • Comment removed

  • Really effective video, just had to watch this once and then I could string my bass like a pro :)

  • thanks dude , was a good help .

  • cheers, big help!

  • is it possible to use the 4 biggest strings from a 5 string and put them on a 4 string?

  • You would have to file down the sides where the strings lay on the nut but that's about it.

  • so the B string will fit in.

  • probably not a good idea to do this unless you have two basses and can afford to ruin one..

  • Hey I had the same idea today.

I think the way to do it would be to get a new saddle and file it properly, for bigger strings to fit.

    Don´t file the original saddle.

  • done it it works fine and the E string fits fine it it after again... Its my second bass... I hotroded a shitty ibanez.. Would never do it to my good one

  • You could, I tried it, but it seriously messed up my bass. It sounded fucked up and cheesy, I didn't know much about guitars or basses back then, I wanted it for B standard tuning but I wanted to tune to standard as well and tuned up but snapped the highest string lol. I'd never do it again.

  • i have it done just file down the nut and it works great I have it done to an ibanez soundgear

  • why's that? :)

  • great video was very convenient but could somebody please make a video of taking the strings off?

  • You see the tuners? Laxen the string using the tuners. It should be pretty straightforward from there.

  • thnx

  • never cut the strings off cos there under too much tension they will whip off and probably hurt you plus its really bad for the neck to go from under tention to nothing so quickly and..you can take all of your strings off it makes it really easy to clean when theres no strings on it just aslong as you dont cut them off! it will fuck shit up,

  • Comment removed

  • if your a left hander would you just do it the opposite coz im one and i find it more comfertable to hold it the otherway round

  • hey, thnx a lot. Im left handed and ive been trying to restring my bass, and this video really helped out

  • dude, me too :p

  • Great job explaining, great shots, appreciate it!

  • omfg 3 comment :O

  • I see what you did there.
