im new to the bass im just learning i have a yamaha rbx170 i wanna chang the strings ( im larning and wanting to play mostly rock ) any idea what string are good for learners
@Matta212121 Not playing bass yet, but I've heard that is clearly taste. Just experiment till you find the perfect strings for you, there are no strings for begginers and pros :D
@phantomguy700 i did the same thing man wat i did was i put all the strings on starting from bottom to the top string and i put a little tennsion on it and then once i got all the strings on i brought them up to pitch
hi, i am just about to restring my bass with D'addario EXL170 strings, after taking them out of the package they've got now wrapping on the end of the strings! iv not used bass strings without wrapping over the ends, is this normal?
sad expert village with theyre average 1 min 30 sec videos does not deserve credit for this video. Notice he doesn't say "for expert village" after saying his name.
@analyticalw does look an awful lot like mine. Mine is an Ibanez GSR 180 MGT, a solid beginners affordable bass :3 but then again, i might be wrong. Hope i helped :3
@bassmaggot666 there is a button in the bottom right corner of the vid that looks like a CC in a square. click on it and the text will magically go away :3
This would be a lot better if I could see what you were doing instead of just staring at text. Perhaps you should rename this video "Bass Stringing for the Deaf" since you seem you assume we can't hear you,
I once wrote a little text in HTML on how to restring a bass. I'm cool on some of the things you say, but there is no single "right way" to do it. Also in my opinon you leave off some important stuff and you stop exactly where it becomes interesting. So there is a new string and it's at the right pitch for the first time, now what? Next string? I disagree. Also please use a new string if your want to show how a restring a bass, not a used one..
I broke my E string by just playing alot i think, it didnt snap into two bits it just kinda unwinded abit and it caused to much slack to even play the string, and the bit that it unwinded on was the nut of the bass, so im just wondering if there is any problem with my bass nut? oh btw the string where abit old
Same head, same first strings (with the red stuff on them) and its a yamaha :) might not be same colour, same bridge, same pickup placement same knobs :D
He's wrong, you should never cut the strings, that will change the intonation more than having a string that is too long. You should also just buy the right length of string.
Cutting the string is perfectly OK and will not change the intonation. The intonation is affected by the speaking length of the string. The distance from the nut to the bridge.
any string after the nut has nothing to do with the intonation.
i am a beginner bass player. i tried restringing my bass with the top post's method and i seriously broke 2 sets of strings. i used this utah guy's method and i restrung my bass in like 5 minutes. so thanks and good job!
Hey thanks for the video, it helps with some dudes!
To BoomeHz: if you play all the days of the year is necesary change the strings every four months, but I make this every year. Well it's a question of kind of strings too.
It all depends what style you play - if its slap then yeah maybe 3-4 times a year, otherwise I'd say once every year and a half max if you like dead strings.
Just put DR Extra Life 'Hot Pink' bass strings on my ibanzez. Sounds awesome! Would recomend them to anyone with an ibanez bass! oh, and also 'Badass II' Pickups. Gives it that deep 'Fieldy' Tone!
Well it all depends on the sound you are looking for and the feel its really all personal. I play that style of music I use Elixirs. They hold up really well, they will last forever and I feel like I have a little more of a mid punch.
I use elixir too for all my guitar needs. I mean they are not really expensive yet they are deemed the best strings. I've just started out on bass and so far havent had to replace the strings. Almost 7 months now. Even the tone stays bright.
My favorites are the Ernie Ball Power Slinky strings, but it really depends on what music you want to play. The power slinky strings give me a nice low end with a bit of an edge to it. Experiment with different types, but I recommend Ernie Ball. Other stings I've tried just haven't given me the tone I want.
@Xais56 Yeah haha my brother has a guitar which hasn't been restrung for 5 years, and it's a crappy yamaha, really cheap. Still sounds fine. Although I recently restrung my bass and man what a difference :)
Its suggested that you dont take off all the strings when re-stringing so you dont fuck the neck or w/e, does this apply to Guitars aswell ? and if so how the hell am i meant to give the fret board a clean ?
a good point. i'm guessing that you take strings off one by one and get a cleaning tool to clean the section under each string. i'm no expert but from what this guy is saying that is what i would do.
hmm it may apply to guitars its just because with all the strings gone you are getting rid of a lot of tension on the neck and that can cause the neck to bow.
you need to be careful with basses because they have such thick strings and there is a lot of tension there so it may apply to guitars too but not to the same extent as with a bass
i recently just bought a right handed 5 string,im a left handed player. just wondering what else will i have to do to make the guitar work better retstrung i know i need to get a new nut but what else?
this was a reaaally good video. is there any other video on how to stretch your strings unlike the one in expert village where the guy is just yanking on his bass
