Today, in every aspect, just gets worse and worse. To be born in the golden age of music, of style, of living is my ultimate dream that will never come true - but worth dreaming at night. These people bring my dreams alive...
Sat in few rail road stations waiting to go home after travel the cuntry side in search of peace. Love this song by Simon and Garfunkel, so to hear it agian after all those years,in darkness with out their music.
can't decide which is more stupid: a commenter that drops the N bomb in defense of S&Gs music, or that 31 other idiots thumbed up. artie and paul would not be stoked,
This song just proves that a good rythm, a simple drum beat and you can create a classic. Today its got to be 8 different songs mixed into one. Simplify!
@LibertarianPL Its cause unfortunately todays generation doesnt know what true music is they probably don't even know what their favorite artists voices really sound like with all the autotuning aand synthesization that goes i agree with 1heavygold medeocrity
My Mom loved Simon and Garfunkel, I grew up listening to them. She died in 2004, and as I stood holding her hand in the hospital as she passed away, this song was softly playing over the radio in her room... I love you Mom, I miss you...
So, I play by the rules, but "have posted many times" this morning. And you decide to rip my last comment off, delete, delete, 'cuz your security box thinks I'm a 'bot. I copied the letters of the non-word dutifully, but did not get it right the first time. So my lengthy comment was summarily killed. Sometimes I enjoy YouTube, sometimes I think "fuck you clowns."
I would suggest this particular take of this song to anyone who subscribes to the (idiotic) idea that is so popular right now, it seems; that anything added to a singer-songwriter's voice and guitar distracts and detracts from the performance. For one example, they like to run down George Martin's generous and talented contribution to the Beatles' success. I first checked out two other takes of Homeward Bound wondering what was lacking, then I found this....this is just plain THE ONE.
Flash-back to December 1980...waiting for train to London from Newcastle..to see GF..been away for 4 months...suddenly this tune pops into my head and replays for 3 hours! Sadly we split that Christmas and I would sob hysterically every time I hear this anywhere...only recently I manage to listen to S and G songs without breaking down..( he says with tears welling up...)
SIMON AND GARFUNKEL are my favorite artist I LOVE THEM! shame new music sucks and the new generation of kids..I'm 17 and i love oldies.i was born in the wrong era
@ilovepaul55 no hun do not feel that way you was born in the right era and to be honest as long as there are people your age that listen too this type of music it will never fade away
something about this song really gets me.... if i feel down after a hard day at college or something, i can plug on my ipod, stick this on and watch the world go by out the train window, and everything just feels better.
I wish more 18 years old appreciated the genius' that are Simon and Garfunkle. I prefer this any day to the crap out there now!
As I posted on another S&G thread, I was the only black kid in h.s. who listened to these guys and I got laughed at; called a nerd; accused of being "too white," because I didn't listen to rap music where women are degraded and men are made to be pimps, killers and "nigguhs," etc. Music is music; and it's a language we all speak and understand. I happen to love THIS kind of music. I can understand the lyrics and I can play it for my kids without them asking me, "What's a ho?"
"Music, you now, true music - not just rock n roll - it chooses you. It live in your car, or alone listening to your headphones, you know, with the cast scenic bridges and angelic choirs in your brain. It's a place apart from the vast, benign lap of America. ."
@MzTJones80 I am not a prejudiced in the least, but I do agree with you. And not to put words in your mouth but most rap music has absolutely no class. It seems as though you have terrific, classy taste in music and because of this your children will develope class themselves.
There you go again. You really have to work on those social skills. When ones words are no better than silence, it is better to remain silent. Now, I'll have a number 3 with fries and that order will be to go.
Thanks for posting this song. It brings back good memories of my childhood when my mom and dad danced to this song in the living room after dinner. Thank you mom and dad for the best childhood any child could ask for.
There's something unique in this couple (the poet and the one man band)... the unique stanzas with hardly any refrains... that somehow fit and connect like so many jigsaw pieces... it just shows you Simon's poetic genius, and of course, the great love between the two reflected through the harmony of their voices. My mother was at the central park concert of 1981 their last concert. I'd probably mark that date as the day real music died. All we can do is hope someone resurrects it
@bayernfan182 Your a real asshole dude if you said that to my face i would punch you in the mouth im jewish and your being a dick.. and music these days sucks ass so hes right
@winkledorf17 first of all, learn how to spell JUDAISM before arguing about its respectability. second, ummm generalization much???? there is absolutely no way in which you can support that. at all.
"Homeward Bound" is a 1966 song by Simon and Garfunkel, recorded on December 14, 1965. Paul Simon is said to have written the song at the former Ditton railway station in the town of Widnes, in the north-west of England, while stranded overnight waiting for a train. The song describes his longing to return home, both to his then girlfriend, Kathy Chitty in Brentwood, Essex, England, and to return to the United States. It remained on the charts for 12 weeks.
@bernie5470 everyone in Merseyside will tell you he wrote it in their town. Ive heard Newton le WIllows a lot and various St Helens boroughs, including Widnes.
