Gotta love how when the Normandy swoops in for the final blow on Sovereign there's 4 Alliance fighters going in with her, and also how you can distinct which are frigates, fighters, dreadnoughts and cruisers and all their formations (i.e the "wolf pack" that flies past the Ascension)
I love that music on 1:49, it's so disturbingly menacing, cold and alien. I really missed that in Mass Effect 2, though ME2's enemy was literally more organic. Still, I hope Sam brings back those evil synths, because I mean look at it. The images, the backdrop, Sovereign and the music: it's a horrifying futuristic scenario, huge mechanical monsters wiping us all out. Mass Effect is so ridiculously iconic at time, the symbolism is mesmerizing.

@GangsterHutterite Bitches love boxy, badass ships. Human technology is more practical than aesthetically pleasing, especially in "gritty" sci fi. As disturbingly beautiful as a covenant ship is, you feel exultant when a UNSC ship comes along and guts it with a MAC gun. In Warhammer 40k, the boxy ships are actually like giant floating cathedrals in space complete with gargoyles, frescoes and images of saints.
Seriously, I think they could make millions on a Mass Effect movie as long as the final scene (with that awesome music) with Shepard standing atop of Sovereign is in it :P Most inspiring scene in the whole game series, at least so far, in my opinion.
@FuckUwithaDildo lol :D. i am not a hippie, but as a society we advance in what we invest in... ww2 and the cold war saw huge jumps in weapon techs. it took decades before the replacement for the f15 because their was no major threat for the longest time their still is not a big deal... so they take their time with the replacements.. the reason why the shuttle is completely gone is funding cutbacks, they had designs for new versions of it in the early 90' s but funding cuts....

Saving the council to me always seemed like the right and heroic thing to do, so i did it and never regretted it...also i want to see mr."reapers" reaction in me3 :D
Saving the council, it's what I did too. They don't help you, hell they deserve to die in a way. But I'm hoping the effects of that sacrifice will show in the end.
Paragon choice: Turians lose 20 cruisers, 300 men on each. The Destiny Ascension had 10,000. If saved, the Alliance loses 8 cruisers, Names of the 8 cruisers are: Shin Yang, Emden, Dicarta, Cairo, Sol, Cape Town, Warsaw, and Madrid. If the same as the Turians, with around 300 in each, that makes it that around 2,400 human lives were lost, saving the Ascension saves a lot more lives. If Renegade choice, the Turians protecting the Ascension lose more ships, plus 10,000 on board the Ascension.
@Ectasy1233 Sovereign is 2 times bigger then the Ascension, and holds more crew. The shields on it can withstand 3 blasts from 3 dreadnoughts each, Reaper technology is far more advanced.
@1NKxCH1LL A lot more, wiki and codex say that reaper shields can hold back the fire from an entire fleet, dreadnoughts included. the only reason this battle ended the way it did was Shepard overloading Sovereigns core by destroying the vessel he was using.
the Destiny Ascension is said to be 4 times the size of the biggest human ship, which is - if i recall correctly - the SSV Everest. the Everest is 888 metres in length, that means the Ascension is 3552 metres in length. now an average reaper is around 1,7 km long, and sovereign can be around 2 km long. if im right all the geth ships are dropships which equal a frigate in size , and they face turian CRUISERS. now my question is: why the hell couldnt the citadel fleet just PAWN THEM???
@spagetti001 its probably because the geth fleet had first strike on the citadel fleet since they came out of the relay in formation why the citadel fleet was still getting into formation. Besides, the first strike took out quite a few turian ships as well and its also likely that the geth had better weapons from sovereign.
I can't wait to see a similar scene for mass effect 3. The Krogan's are going to come and start boarding the reaper ships, Rachni will come and use supersonic weapons, Geth backed up by converted heretics will revolt at their old Gods, The Migrant Fleet will help me, Turian warships and Destiny ascension's security fleet, Alliance, Cerberus, Asari fleet, Omega's pirates and mercs, Salarian STG will infiltrate their contacts led by Mordin, Imagine they will all jump in battle led by Normandy SR2!

I always get super happy when the Alliance saves the Destiny Ascension. The music that plays when they're being saved is... so hopeful. Like that battle turned at that point or something. I love it!
I couldn't help but notice the discussion on which Mass Effect game was better, and I feel it necessary to say that I don't like ME1 or ME2. I like Mass Effect.
Almost everything was better in ME, the characters, the script, the immersion, the exploration of uncharted worlds, this feeling of epicness...
And that is a real end unlike ME2 and its ridiculous final boss. Plus, removing elevators and team dialogues for those f*****g loading screens was a terrible mistake. :/
I hope i'm not the only one thinking that, thumb up if you feel the same.
If only the nations of the world could get together like this. Imagine all those Alliance ships are manned by Russia, US, China, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Philippines ect... Can you imagine all the different languages going on in the radio chatter lol?

The turians, salarians, asari, krogan, (i wouldnt be surprised if wrex is leading a krogan army to help ground forces on earth) if you spared the rachni queen she might send her forces to help defend earth, maybe if you helped Aria all the forces in terminus systems will be helping to quarians and legion's geth uniting to help it will be epic!

Resource input into spaceflight would yield drastically diminishing marginal return, so that to get 1 more unit of technological progress, ever more units of resources were required. Space technology or any technology for that matter are not only affected by developments in their own respective fields but also the general level of advancement. Overinvestment in one field when the rest aren't ready will be very inefficient.
@liebstandarteadolf dang straight mining resources, theirs this stuff called helium 2 or helium 3 something like that. it has to do with fusion power. very small quantities can power a city for a long ass time, i saw a documentary on it a while back. something like that would be worth mining.
@Baseshocks First, we have some of them on Earth. It'd be more economical to mine them here first. Second, the vast energy density in fusion power is only theoretical at the moment. As of now, we can't even get it to produce enough energy to power itself. I don't know if the laws of physics will ever allow us to achieve the theorectical power output in practice.

@SinDawg030 it costs too much no one could afford it, Russia's GDP is not much higher then Canada's, the U.S is 14 trillion in debt, the EU nations put their resources together for one agency. right now the big motivation for space exploration is raw materiel, the world is preparing for it from now for 100 years from now when we run out of resources on earth. I would rather this planet venture out with one flag then many, it will cause issues, who owns what planet or asteroid rights to mine?
@Baseshocks Agreed, thats the problem though. We got further into space during the Cold War than we did after the Berlin Wall came down. What we need is for every national Space Agency on Earth to join together under the auspices of the UN for some kind of Earth Space Angency or United Nations Space Command (lol Halo in real life) and get on with inventing artificial gravity (stops osteperosis) and an FTL drive.
@Baseshocks There's no such thing as running out of resources. There are plenty of resource on Earth, but Human production of those resources cannot keep up with human population growth. As Human population increase, so will the consumer rate growth therefore putting a strain on production. Mass production of resources also caused overpopulation. What we need is a off-Earth colony to lessen that strain on resource. Or, we can do it the easy way and start WW3?
@NewOrleansboii space tech takes decades to advance, they are doing it very slowly but if you look at the experiments they do. the Russians just finished a 1.5 year test by having 6 men in a simulated mission to mars to test the physic of being in a confined space with soo few people for that long... Other tests on the space station... we will run out in couple of hundred years or so. we wont be mining planets we will be mining asteroids that are closer to earth.

If only ME2 could have been as good as ME.
Almost everything was better in ME, the characters, the script, the immersion, the exploration of uncharted worlds, this feeling of epicness...
And that is a real end unlike ME2 and its ridiculous final boss. Plus, removing elevators and team dialogues for those f*****g loading screens was a terrible mistake. :/
I hope i'm not the only one thinking that, thumb up if you feel the same.

The turians, salarians, asari, krogan, (i wouldnt be surprised if wrex is leading a krogan army to help ground forces on earth) if you spared the rachni queen she might send her forces to help defend earth, maybe if you helped Aria all the forces in terminus systems will be helping to quarians and legion's geth uniting to help it will be epic!

Resource input into spaceflight would yield drastically diminishing marginal return, so that to get 1 more unit of technological progress, ever more units of resources were required. Space technology or any technology for that matter are not only affected by developments in their own respective fields but also the general level of advancement. Overinvestment in one field when the rest aren't ready will be very inefficient.

@liebstandarteadolf dang straight mining resources, theirs this stuff called helium 2 or helium 3 something like that. it has to do with fusion power. very small quantities can power a city for a long ass time, i saw a documentary on it a while back. something like that would be worth mining.

@Baseshocks First, we have some of them on Earth. It'd be more economical to mine them here first. Second, the vast energy density in fusion power is only theoretical at the moment. As of now, we can't even get it to produce enough energy to power itself. I don't know if the laws of physics will ever allow us to achieve the theorectical power output in practice.

@SinDawg030 it costs too much no one could afford it, Russia's GDP is not much higher then Canada's, the U.S is 14 trillion in debt, the EU nations put their resources together for one agency. right now the big motivation for space exploration is raw materiel, the world is preparing for it from now for 100 years from now when we run out of resources on earth. I would rather this planet venture out with one flag then many, it will cause issues, who owns what planet or asteroid rights to mine?

@Baseshocks Agreed, thats the problem though. We got further into space during the Cold War than we did after the Berlin Wall came down. What we need is for every national Space Agency on Earth to join together under the auspices of the UN for some kind of Earth Space Angency or United Nations Space Command (lol Halo in real life) and get on with inventing artificial gravity (stops osteperosis) and an FTL drive.

@Baseshocks There's no such thing as running out of resources. There are plenty of resource on Earth, but Human production of those resources cannot keep up with human population growth. As Human population increase, so will the consumer rate growth therefore putting a strain on production. Mass production of resources also caused overpopulation. What we need is a off-Earth colony to lessen that strain on resource. Or, we can do it the easy way and start WW3?

@NewOrleansboii space tech takes decades to advance, they are doing it very slowly but if you look at the experiments they do. the Russians just finished a 1.5 year test by having 6 men in a simulated mission to mars to test the physic of being in a confined space with soo few people for that long... Other tests on the space station... we will run out in couple of hundred years or so. we wont be mining planets we will be mining asteroids that are closer to earth.
