I'm a huge Pumpkins fan, but even I have to admit--this is just awful. The animation is really nice, but that's about it. The voice acting and writing is just about as crummy as it gets and many elements of the city seem like they're stolen directly from Blade Runner, Transmetropolitan or Total Recall. It's a total mess and it's no wonder it didn't pick up.

This is really similar to the theme the gorillaz are taking on. Too bad no one recognizes the originallity of Billy as much as they do with other bands (no offense to the gorillaz, they're one of the best around); but, then again, the Pumpkins have always been underrated. The interview about this series really makes you appreciate the concept more, give it a watch.

I know what you mean, I've always felt the public & media is always overly quick to attack Billy & The Pumpkins.

They come up with something new and original, and they are ridiculed for it. Then a few years later someone else comes along and does the same thing and they are applauded

Back in 2000 when Machina I and II were released, the Pumpkins (or maybe Virgin) struck up a deal with Sony to create an online animated series based on the storyline behind Machina (where the Pumpkins are represented as a fictional band, the Machines of God)

The project got canned by Sony (I think), but not before three episodes were created. For a long time they were available on some obscure website that I've long since forgotten, but now it seems they've made their way to youtube!

I love the opening remix of "In My Body", which is what caused me to actually find out about Machina II, and I wish Billy would have continued making songs for this series. Of the three episodes, the plot is just "meh", but the plot that all of the Machina I and II albums seem to weave is really interesting. And so umm yeah.
