I'm a huge Pumpkins fan, but even I have to admit--this is just awful. The animation is really nice, but that's about it. The voice acting and writing is just about as crummy as it gets and many elements of the city seem like they're stolen directly from Blade Runner, Transmetropolitan or Total Recall. It's a total mess and it's no wonder it didn't pick up.
hardcore pumpkin fans are gonna hate me for this but alot of there new stuff like this song sounds border line goth, alot I listen to alot of goth rock, darkwave and industrial it sounds dangerously close.
This is really similar to the theme the gorillaz are taking on. Too bad no one recognizes the originallity of Billy as much as they do with other bands (no offense to the gorillaz, they're one of the best around); but, then again, the Pumpkins have always been underrated. The interview about this series really makes you appreciate the concept more, give it a watch.
I know what you mean, I've always felt the public & media is always overly quick to attack Billy & The Pumpkins.
They come up with something new and original, and they are ridiculed for it. Then a few years later someone else comes along and does the same thing and they are applauded
i'm curious of who did the voice acting... its been a while since i've seen this.... and now i that i actually pay attention the voices sound familiar... do you know who did them?
Man, am I ever glad to see these videos on youtube. It's been a LOOONG time since I watched them. And now, with the band back together, it really puts the subject content into a new light! :) Kudos.
Back in 2000 when Machina I and II were released, the Pumpkins (or maybe Virgin) struck up a deal with Sony to create an online animated series based on the storyline behind Machina (where the Pumpkins are represented as a fictional band, the Machines of God)
The project got canned by Sony (I think), but not before three episodes were created. For a long time they were available on some obscure website that I've long since forgotten, but now it seems they've made their way to youtube!
Thanks for uploading these, I always wanted to see them... Heh sorry couldn't resist.
I love the opening remix of "In My Body", which is what caused me to actually find out about Machina II, and I wish Billy would have continued making songs for this series. Of the three episodes, the plot is just "meh", but the plot that all of the Machina I and II albums seem to weave is really interesting. And so umm yeah.
very abstract but like it !! he should make a new series that would be awesome maybe something to do with zeitgeist!!!!

This is symbolic of Billy Corgan trying to get into D'Arcy Wretzky's pants.

From what I read it's going to be published piece by piece over the internet. 1 song every few weeks. 44 songs total or so. It should be cool.

Billy listened to Bauhaus so it's only natural for him to be experimental and I like it.

Don't worry about it. They've always had the goth influence in the work.

Wow. That was really bizarre. The voice acting struck me as a little hokey, but overall, I enjoyed it.
