I think Britt was kinda afraid that American audiences wouldn't accept Thomas all by himself, and thus she stuck to the "Shining Time Station" motif.

Which is kind of a shame, because MCTT was sadly rather mediocre in comparison to STS.

Shining Time Station (the show which spawned this spin-off) lasted from 1989-1993. This particular show, I believe lasted from 1993-1996 (and, for those who DID watch, use a different ending theme).
