This is terrific work. My only complaint is that there is a bit of an upset to the pacing and tempo of the scene when the tie fighters arrive

Very cool thing, but the explosions of the (new) tie fighters look different to the explotions of the (old) x-wings... it should be possible to make that effects more equal, isn't it?

Amazing, love the tie fighter entrance. These needed to b the improvements made that would have been worth the effort. One thing I would change is the imperial march song, since it was exclusive for episode 5. Other than that, perfect!

All in all great work. The battle si more thrilling than before. I like it. I agree with KaTzaNdStuFf (Can you spell it?) on some things though.

Thing I liked: 1. You can see other fighters and Yavin out of the windows. 2 More fighters when Red Leader says " I'm gonna cut across the axis and try and draw their fire. 3 The Death Star doesn't have a blue tint anymore. 4 Red Two, not Red Six. 5 The new hologram display at Base 1. 6. More action in the background. 7. Correct time on the Death Star Screen. 8. R2's light works. Things I didn't like: 1. New animated explosions (like the feel of the old ones). 2. Imperial March.

This was a really great edit .... I felt so much more specially aware of what actually happening with the characters in the fight.... I can't really give a higher compliment than that... very small changes can make a big difference on our perception of the action..... really great job here

wow, they really chopped up the music score and introduced music that wouldnt be written for another 3 years. I dont like that at all. "Imperial March" from Hoth Attack from "Empire" shouldnt have replaced the brilliant score Williams originally did for this sequence. The other things are an improvement, but I cant say I appreciate the hack job on the music score.

But you should have kept the traditional Yavin cue at 2:58 instead of using the cue from the final minutes of Empire's Hoth suite. I also heard a few seconds of "Attacking a Star Destroyer" which is also from Empire. The cue used at 3:42 should have been used and extended if possible to accomdate your awesome updates to the T.I.E. attacks; the Yavin cue is more epic sounding. But still overall you make the music and scenes come together so again, kukos and continue your great work!!

I also loved the X-Wings and Y-Wings diving down towards the Death Star on the backdrop of Yavin and the transitions between your edited scenes and the original 1977 footage. Basically 1:14 to 1:58.

FUCKING OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! The only downer to this clip is the changing of the normal musical cue when the T.I.E. fighters attack the Rebels; it should be kept as is always no matter how many editions are brought out. Otherwise, you make Lucasfilm look like crap!!

WOW !!! I wish you had been the CGI effects supervisor on the special edition. Your changes / tweaks are fantastic! You really expanded the scope of the battle. That was one thing that always bugged me about the death star battle in the original release. Don't get me wrong - I thought the original death star attack was fantastic, but a space station that big only having 10 or so TIE fighters engaged to defend against the rebels? There should have been swarms of them. Brilliant work !

@SuperMarxBrothers Actually now that I think about it, isn't the reason they were left out of the movie because Tarkin thought the death star was invulnerable and so only Darth Vader sent out his personal squadron? Which I mean still should be 12 TIE Fighters (since 12 is the standard squadron size in star wars according to the rogue squadron books).

I can see how Tarkin would think like that. However, I also think sending out several squadrons makes sense in-continuity. Since the end of the Clone Wars up until the "end" of the Empire ala RotJ, we see a military built upon the foundations of terror and overwhelming numerical superiority. In the case of the new edits, Tarkin may be overriding his own "Tarkin Doctrine," but it would still be keeping with the Emprie's goal of crushing foes in propaganda-worthy victories.

Oh, red engine flares. Joy! I like the slight colour correction on the pilot close ups too. 3:01 Awesome, although I think the Imperial Theme should be held off til ESB. Added a fair bit of time in terms of establishing those TIEs, but more run time isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Adywan may be one of greatest Star Wars fans to actually remake this scene but George Lucas is also great for creating this whole scene. Both deserve equal credit!
