@thenewmike2012 We don't need them in the military either. A lot of soldiers in combat have to be in hostile environments where better communication and conflict-averse behavior could save lives. Imagine that cop in the uniform of the US Army, armed with an M-16, talking to someone who doesn't speak English and is not a US citizen.
@zyxek Youre actually right. I posted that comment out of anger at what I saw in the vid. If these cowardly cops cant serve their community properly, we sure as hell dont need them representing our Amazing United States of America Armed Forces. Your point is well taken. He just need to be fired and that citizen should sue him and his department.
@thenewmike2012 I like that crap he put on my page. He's a misogynist douche I called out, and that was his reaction. It's a badge of honor. Before the end of the day, I might have some Ron Paul fans giving me more of the same.
@zyxek Oh, Ok...well in that case, I kinda like your style. Youre clearly a smart person, so I have to ask what are your picks for the NFL 2011 season?
I think the vast majority of police know that it's legal for people to record them. I think the vast majority of police that order you to stop recording them know that it's legal for you to do so. I think the officers that beat you up when you refuse to stop recording them are the minority that really don't know.
I don't know, I have mixed feelings until I know more. I think it should be legal to film police but I have also seen many incidents where people from the sidelines add to the tension by harrassing the cops from the side and it can be dangerous to have people standing to the side if you can't see them. However--the beating is wrong.
@MultiUniv3rsal If you're interfering in a crime scene, or just too close to an investigation in progress they can tell you to move back to an area they designate as safe. They can not order you to stop a legal action. Filming and photography is like chewing bubble gum, it is NOT against the law. If they want the public at a certain distance, they must include everyone and not single out people because they have cameras.
BS.. cops are out there to crush the people if u get in their way of exercising their power to do whatever they want.....the cop should be put in jail and have to pay the guy's doctor bills and damages etc
It's wrong and probably even an illegal arrest, but when the cop says turn it off and you don't turn it off you're probably going to jail. You've lost that part of it. All you can do now is just shut up and fight it in court. It's unfortunate, but reality.
Everyone needs to record every cop they see interacting with someone. There are far too many bad cops out there. They need to be fired, immediately. Many need to be put in jail.
@BrotherAlpha There was a six month period where I was really into candid street photography, and got told on three seperate occasions by law enforcement (LAPD,Sheriffs, LA Public Safety) that some form of my public photography was illegal. I genuinely believe as Louis does, that they were ignorant of the law. I also believe that people in a positon of authority will make up law in thier heads to fit the situation as they see it, mainly because ppl are usually so fearful and obedient of police.
The cop should lose his job. Without a shadow of a doubt. If every cop knew that was the consequence I bet the number of these instances would go down, dramatically.
Just like a sex offender registration database, the world needs global civilian run crooked civil servant registration platform to monitor, name and shame politicians and cops that are out of control. Does anyone know the name of this cop?
There should be ZERO tolerance for clear cut police abuse. 1 strike and youre FIRED. Ship these hot headed cops off to the military

@thenewmike2012 You're right 100% The protection of violent police by their departments is a grave injustice.

Instances where the police r acting like facists r increasing. It's getting to be a major problem that needs to be dealt with ASAP.

Usually I am for the police, but not this time. This policeman should be fired.

If you're interfering in a crime scene, or just too close to an investigation in progress, they are within their rights to tell you to turn it off.
Having said that, if you back off and film from a distance they can't say shit, so it pays to drop the attitude and deal with it.

Sad - I wonder how many more law-abiding citizens are going to be assaulted by police officers before they learn how to do their job.
