I Love This Steve Winwood 1986 Music Video, "Freedom Overspill," Which Became A Top 5 Rock Hit In America, A Top 20 Hit In America, And A Top 30 Dance Hit In America.
I knew my Godfather (George Fleming) had written a song for Steve Winwood; but have only just sort to find it! Brilliant. He was an inspirational man and I miss him dearly; rest in peace old friend.
Once a 14-year old drummer from the Spencer Davis Group hit the British scene in 1963 with so many future greats in the rock scene before coming out of the shadows to hit it big with "While You See a Chance" in 1980. Got "Back In The High Life" in 1986 and it wasn't long until he "Rolled With It", churning out hit after hit after hit. Now the kid from Birmingham is another British music legend.
I don't know - I like the video actually - even if it is outtakes from some of the other 'Back In The High Life' videos. Plus at 1:55 we get the 'Chronicles' album cover, along w/some inner photos from this as well as Valerie '87 etc...
he had 3 points in the 80s...arc of a diver which sorta freed him from the past and let him do his thing...then in 1986 he was monster huge all over the radio then...all the way up to 1988 and roll with it was on the radio all that summer..i was 15 then..those were magical times
joe walsh on slide ,steve ferrone drums. what a tune ,also love split decision. why no music around today as good as this? anyway lets enjoy it now it,s back on youtube!
If I remember correctly, some of his singles from "Back in the High Life" were put out almost as an EP. It wasn't just that the director had to use discarded film because the record company was cheap: There was kind of a recurring theme in the videos. I believe some hot Japanese artist/director came up with the concept for this video. Help me out here!
am i the only one who hates those radio "condensed"songs?c'm on,play the full version!no time restrictions here!by the way,i bought back in the high life on CD when it first came out and this song didn't come with it but a friend had it on cassette and it had this track.bummer.
You're not the only one bro', by ANY means! We ALL hate those condensed songs!!! But advertising (greed) be as it is, we must accept it, I guess. It's a consumer society. We all miss the long (REAL) versions too! Right on!

Mmmm reminds me of "Someone to Watch Over Me," an old 1987 film with Tom Berenger looking so damn hot the screen explodes.

Didn't Joe Walsh lend a hand on this one, or am I mistaken?
bigworld3001 7 months ago
@bigworld3001 Walsh only co-wroted and played lead guitar on the song "Split Decision" which appeared on the same album.

What's the matter, Mr. Davis? You couldn't cut it in The 80's? I take it Mr. Winwood could. Sucks for you, doesn't it?

@sucharadder Going by the lyrics, my guess it's about his divorce from his late ex-wife Nicole.

This video isn't very good. I'm guessing they had a feeling the song wasn't gonna be such a monster hit as Higher Love was.
Winwood looks like Willem Defoe.

WTF?
They never shot a Freedom Overspill video?
They just used footage from the Higher Love video shoot?
How friggin' lame is that?
They at least should have taken one day and took Steve out to shoot some new footage for this song! Damn music companies!
Great song though!
