@jgadiaz Very good question indeed. That would be the million-dollar question. The problems were intermittent. I heard a good theory; the computer has difficulties closing down programs that use the voice command system or programs hang; when that happens, voice command won't work until a full reboot. That's the only thing I can think of.
have you tried using a diff usb cable? even though it did work before maybe it has a short also try the other USB port just my 2 cents. i also have a 2011 ford edge and am not 100% happy with this my ford touch. i dont have the map on my gps as yours its just turn by turn voice guidance. it takes me the looooooooooong way all the time.
I don't think those iPods are supported. They don't work with new iPod docks either. You need a newer ipod, or you can use aux in I guess, except you won't have command support.
@DjDommyD That's incorrect; Ford boasts compatablity with the iPod. At any rate, other "compatable" devices have similar problems and sometimes those devices and the iPod work. I also have the iPhone 4 gen and it's the same. Works sometimes and other times not so much.
@rbrice1981 Well, it's probably some sort of glitch in the Sync system itself. In all honesty, I don't think the Ford sync system should have been released for another few years, or atleast till it gets a facelift. They're just trying to compete with Audi and VW, which will never really happen. Have you tried calling Ford about the problem or going to a local dealer? They should have a technician that will check it out. I think you have a faulty system or the iPod wire in the back of the...
@DjDommyD Thanks for that info. Yes, I agree - the system is not ready and if it's not ready it shouldn't have been released. Yes, It's been into the shop six times and has had three PROFESSIONAL (non-Ford) inspections (well, two but the third is scheduled for next week).
System is not plugged in properly. Mistakes do happen. Ford's are build by machines, not hand built. Also, if Ford refuses to fix it, try contacting Microsoft, considering Sync is based off of a Microsoft OS. It might be something as simple as an update needed.
@DjDommyD The system's been updated (the Microsoft-released update). The firmware and software both have been updated. It may be not plugged in correctly but they would've found that, right?
Constantly complain about it, then they'll have to check it.
Try your Ford dealer, I'm 90% sure it's a wiring problem. Could be something as simple as a stripped wire or a wire that's shorting out. I'm pretty good with Electrical equipment and electronics. But, I'm not a Ford Dealer.
@DjDommyD LOL! I have definitely whined and complained!!! I have another appointment with them and I'll mention what you said but this is a really common problem - I wonder if it could be a wiring problem for all the Ford edges ('11). I don't know much about electrical things though! Thanks Dommy
