I don't know why, but I noticed your video today the first time. This recording is wonderful. If I didn't know that this tune is by Schmidseder, I would think it is Russian origin.
I am moved totears when I hear these beautiful Tangos! even though I cannot understad the lyrics, ( and I thank the person that translated a few verses - it is beautiful and nostalgic...it brings me back to the time when I was growing up, in Buenos Aires; In those days (in the forties) Argentina was getting emmigrants from all over the world and I remember my Polish and Russian, and Austrian neighbours listening to this kind of music...
Here you have a German tango recorded in Russian in Latvia; in the previous post it was a Georgian singing a Polish song in Russian. It's the original European Union...
It's a beautifully played and sung tango. A glowing passionate voice.
Konstantin Sokolskij has lived in pre-War Latvia. He was a "restaurnat" singer, very popular in émigrés circles from Riga to New York. He was lucky to survive in Soviet Latvia, and died about 10 years ago in independent Latvia.
There were few German tangos 'about balalaika'. One thing was imagination and love for exotic details, the other politics and aggression - as we know.
I do not have sheet, I have 'somewhere' German recording, when I find it you may hear it.
I translated it from russian because in russian it is named "Песня балалайки" (Pesnya balalayki).
Balalayka - folk russian musical instrument has only 3 strings, but its sounds made russian emigants to feel sick at heart because these sounds remembered them about their lost Motherland.
В те года можно было записать...песни оккупантов...а с приходом демократии уж больше нет таких прекрасных песен...

No it doesn't. Leshenko had peculiar accent and slightly richer voice.

I'm developing a real liking for this kind of music which, when I live, is just about available only on YouTube. Thanks for this video.

It is pleasure for me to see you here !
I observe that for Anglo-Americans (if I can generalize that way) these things are usually unknown and therefore sometimes 'exotic'...:)

We can say this NOW. When we direct our thoughts to the times when those things were conceived, the matter does not seem to be so simple.
This Russian-Latvian version is far better than German original. They actually knew what Balalaika meant and what feelings it may arise.

Ну, пой мне, балалайка, о Родине моей далекой,
Ну, плачь же, балалайка, о том, чего уж нет,
К чему же всё это, коль в сердце нет ответа,
Не надо, балалайка, ведь это всё прошло...
So beautiful tango and one of my favourite, is it really German? I imaging to have sheet music of it. +5!

Большое спасибо для русских слов.

It will be great! As for this tango, it is named "The song of Balalayka" or " Balalayka's sound" (misic - Shmidtseder, words - Konstantin Sokolskij.
This tango, like Bayanova's "Volga - nostalgia about Russia. For those who don't know russian language I will translate its words into english.

Well sing me, balalayka about my distant Motherland,
Well, cry, balalayka, about what has been lost.
What for this all, when I don't have answer in my heart?
Stop, balalayka... all has past.

Nice - thanks !

May we then after "Volga" and present "Balalayka" add "Zhuravli" as a third tango in that series of Russian nostalgy ? Do you have it perhaps ?...

"The song of Balalayka" seems to be a translation from some edition or some further Anglo-American version of the song.
