Dude -- you can get some low-cost glasses from Zennioptical for about $10. Why bother with an OD who will not do what you ask. You have about a -3 diopter on now. Why not just take the minus off for reading? Just get a minus from Zenni -- and make it easy on yourself.
dude you are a big hit on our forum. everyone thinks you are interesting. especially your how to make iced tea video. PS you need to allow embedding so we can put your wonderful videos directly on our forum.
Re: bi focals .... and glasses in general... I couldn't agree more.... Just ask the person to NOT make them Bi-focals.... It will be fine... I went to EYEMART ... It was great
When I needed new glasses I found a website that sells them for under ten dollars. I ordered a pair, and was shocked to find that they're the nicest glasses I've ever owned, despite being so inexpensive.
You should consider going that route. If your eye doctor didn't already give you a copy of your prescription, they're legally required to do so, upon your request. With that prescription information, you can order cheap glasses online, and in a few weeks they'll be delivered to your door.
I'm all for fiscal responsibility and saving money, but aren't eye glasses one of the few things it's actually ok to splurge a little on? I mean you have to wear them all day every day, and without them you're effectively blind. I say, go all out. I'm really regretting not spending the extra money to get mine with transitions.
if you don't get the bifocals you'll be sacrificing either your distance vision or your close-up vision... if you feel that strongly about them you will probably want to go with the 2 pairs of glasses
I think if you go for the bifocals, you should definitely spring for the ones without the line through them. They might be expensive, but if it's something you are going to be using constantly and for a very long time, it would be well worth the investment.
I've had glasses since I was 2 (I'm 20 now), and had to get bifocals when I was 11 or 12. I did get progressive lenses (without the lines), but I really found them annoying. I like to see the same any angle I look out of my glasses. So I actually ended up getting two pairs, one for the computer and one for just general vision. I'm pleased so far with the result; I just keep my reading.computer glasses by the computer since I can still read with my other ones, just with a tad more strain.
I did, wasn't that expensive all things considering and I have quite literally superhuman vision as a result. It's quite possible anyone can get lucky and wind up the same. (20/10, woooo)
What kind of frames are you thinking about getting? Something smaller maybe? Im not sure they make big frames anymore like the ones you have now. Im interested to see how youd look with a nice new sleek set of glasses.
I had about three or four eye examines when a new eye doctor wanted to give me his prescription. I could never see right eventually I insisted for him to give me the old contact lens brand an the same prescription. You might have to do the same for some reason these eye doctors think they know best yet it's like well I can't see an unhappy want to just give me what I like? So if you don't like I'd just keep saying sorry doc can't see need the old prescription.
My mom has the bifocals that are blended in with no line, and she said they were VERY hard to get used to seeing out of anyway! Good luck with your new glasses, make them do what you want!
go with bifocals if you need it because you wont even see the line after a week your brain will ignore it for you automatically. and yea you should say you want the glass fitted to your frames if theyre 20 years old its just five more years until theyre high fashion again and then you can say youve had them for years and cash in on all that cool rep
I'm glad to see you're finally getting new glasses! Twenty years is a long time to wait. I don't see why you shouldn't get the lenses you want. It's your vision and should be your choice. Good luck!
Your eyeglass provider should be able to make "single vision" lenses with your current prescription. You can also buy "blended" or "invisible" bifocals—two focal lengths without the telltale line between them. There is, however, a certain amount of distortion at the boundary. These would be more expensive than normal bifocals but cheaper than progressive lenses. My experience with regular bifocals is that after a period of adjustment your awareness of the line diminishes.
New glasses! WOOT! yeah, I don't think the eyeglass people could change the prescription. That would be like going to the pharmacy and asking the pharmacist to change the medicine your doctor prescribed. They are not authorized to do it.
Your only option is to talk with your doctor again, and try to persuade him to change the prescription. Remember, you have the right as a patient to have a say in your medical care.
that was the greatest video ive ever watched :D

Can understand. Bifocals are rather disturbing.
Though... cant you tell that to the doctor? I mean they should go after the patient's needs.

@Aerensiniac I did, but he seemed to think bifocals were the way to go.

@protopod so tell him that you don't care, and that you want normal glasses anyway.
