One of their best and most underrated songs-love the way they take a 12-bar and throw the extra chord in there...Classic VH boogie-best of the best...
The first cassette I bought was Diver Down. Give me a minute to find my boom box, put my jean jacket on, fire up the Trans Am and cruise main street. Those were the days.
@TheMapleleafskickass I'm with you all the way brother, up until the Trans Am....I'll fire up my Stang instead......lol..........But Screw all that noise, Diamond Dave is back.I feel 18 again.lol
this was their weakest album with Roth, Eddie had some shining moments but I recall when this came out and the reviewers tore it to shreds, it's under a half hour long i think and too many cover tunes.
My six year old son LOVES this shit. He has two favourite albums. '1984' and 'Dark Side' by the Floyd. If you're into real music your kids will be too. All that corporate shit that's so popular these days is just what kids most easily find when they have to find msuic for themselves. This stuff lives on because we grew up with it and then we give it to our own kids. Rock On!
@MetalMaskMilitia Only if it's a Z28!! Had a '79 myself!! Miss that car! Lots of great memories!! Use to jam VH while I was puttin' some miles on that mutha!! ;-}
I had the Diver Down tape before it was released to the public... My friends thought that was the coolest thing ever! Valerie Bertinelli's brother Pat was in my senior class and hooked me up! But we still had arguments over who was better... Eddie or Jimmy Page.. I was raised on Zeppelin!
@64jazdude In 2011, it doesn't matter. Big Ed's up there with Page, Clapton, Hendrix, and all the rest. He'll always be one of the greats.......peace+love2all...........
The brilliance and unmistakeable MAGIC that is VAN HALEN is on full display in this classic track... Fuck Hagar and his Tequila too... DAVE TO THE GRAVE, BABY!! OWWWWW!!!
I don't have words for how incredible this track is. It also really sums up the truth about Roth: He was a blues singer at his roots. This is something so many people do not understand. What he did here Hagar, Rob Halford, Bruce Dickenson, nor Elvis himself could do: channel the authentic gritty soul of the Mississippi Delta blues singers. Just awesome!
When Dave left VH it was fashionable to slag Dave off, and now Sammy's gone it's the other way around.True Van Halen fans love both Sammy and Dave, so get lost poseurs.
Wow man I just remembered if Paul Castro who worked at Beatitudes is out there I still have you Diver Down album. Its been a while, but its still in good shape man.
Seth! P>S> I bet Diane is big as a house by now, but she sho was fine back in 84! DAMN Fine! I am still playin bro, and have a bright pink USA BC Rich coming in the mail. It was cheap at $345. New ones are $2300. Its got the USA Floyd too, & I still have the Kahler NAMMM Les Paul. You can bury me with that and my Supro.
I have always felt that Women and Children First, Fair Warning, and then the originals off of Diver Down is just an incredible period of musical output.
They were firing on all cylinders creatively, old enough to have really found their groove but young enough to still have the fire.
The Full Bug, Secrets, Little Guitars, and Cathedral, good stuff.
"It was the cover of Van Halen's Diver Down. The whole color scheme thing came as a direct result of the graphic on that record." - Jack White, talking about the origins of his band, The White Stripes.
Probably, arguably the greates Van Halen 'party' album they ever made. Despite all the covers, the playing is awesome, and the originals stand up with any other Van Halen album, in my opinion. Always was and will continue to be my guilty pleasure, when I'm in the mood for that unmistakable 80's rock vibe... nobody did it like DLR era Van Fucking Halen...
@wcmi92 that's rediculous man...he can play guitar, don't get me wrong, but you won't hear a recorded DLR playing guitar with Van Halen..ever...probably not even a practice tape from back in the Mammoth days...
He was far too busy entertaining to be playing a guitar, and there was already a master guitarist in the band
@vfgjhj ... maybe what you say is true, a couple of decades ago. Now go check out Paul Gilbert's new album, Fuzz Universe. My favorite song off this new album is Olympic ! ... and the whole album ROCK'S !!! ... all of His stuff does !!! ... check Him out ...................
@lighthouse44 i love diver down as well, the greatest memories.VanHalen wasnt crazy bout this album. They said it was rushed recording wise and there were too many covers on the album 4 or 5
