Pat puts on one of the best shows I have ever seen. It is nice to see him still rocking. I have been listening to him for over 30 years now. I remember getting my first copy of Putting It Straight for my birthday from a friend in the band. We practiced for hours and hours learning those songs. There are so many great twin solos in his music. You know this ol' boy works hard. Keep on playing shows here in Oregon so we can see ya!!! Cheers!
Pat Travers is definately one of the most underappreciated guitar players in the last 50 years! The only better version of this song is Leadbelly's origional!
Well all of my life in metal and I never knew Pat Travers was the band who played Black Betty. I would imagine that I was so inthralled with Iron Maiden and Ronnie Dio that I just didn't pick that little tidbit up. God forgive me.
Some of that old music will never die. I'm glad people still like it. That old 12 bar blues will live as long as people are here. You can't loose with that music and it is an upper. The blues is not always blue. It's that old time rock and roll. Cheers to you and all the great people that listen to you. Life is good.
@aaaarrrgggghh i can't believe you have the audacity to judge travers, how many of your songs were on the radio? um oh wait that would be none, because your not famous thats right.
This does kick ass but Ram Jam is not the original. It is in fact a cover of an old Leadbelly tune. Blues is rock and roll and rock and roll is the blues.
Freddie baby, we didn't go to jail that night. I still have the pictures. I know it;s been a long time but don't forget me. I still love you baby. How did you go from this to the rodeo business? Keep on doing your thing sweetheart. I miss you
Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter recorded the most famous early version in 1939, but the earliest recorded version is by a convict called James Baker in 1933. It's a "work song", a song designed to be sung by a team of workers with a strong rhythm to coordinate what they're doing.
Ram Jam recorded their version in 1977 and they definitely didn't write it, although their guitarist Bill Bartlett worked out the arrangement with the guitars and drums. Hope this answers your question.
Really? You think six guys standing around looking at each other, with no stage presence, is better than the legendary Pat Travers? That video of yours looked like band class practice, to me, just sayin'.
@quadracergirl Good one my quad racing friend. I know, I'm a year too slow. I'm seeing PT tonight in Donna Tx., so I thought I'd check out some of his stuff. Thanks for the vid.
Pat is down to earth when I met him in a small club in Putnam, ct where I live and the band autographed a tape for me and allowed me to take many pictures of the band up close through the night. Disappointing was the amount of people in attendence. I felt like I had my own live concert
Reply to (tomartstone) 1 month ago hey man hows pat doing i had read in local press that he was having some major health problems. He used to play a lot here in sacramento, california but he hasn't been around in a while. It's great to hear he's still out there "ROCKIN OUT".
Hi bzaluh, It was several years ago that Pat played locally here so I don't know about his health. Saw him in the early days in small club in hometown Utica, NY. Guy was on FIRE!!!
Pat total talent! and those that aren t familiar with him check out his cd's they are awesome and he is a humble great person.the rest of the band are humble cool musicians!
i saw PT in Nov. 07 just after this one i suppose in a club of about 400 in Langley B.C.i had no idea that i was going to have a religious experience that night. i have never heard nor seen nor ever will again experience a show like that. i cannot get over how perfect Pat was in every aspect. i saw Van Halen the following month and Eddie VH should be ashamed of how bad he palys these days. he should have seen that show that i did- he might have learned something.

So this execution must be the authentic, right?
Did this guy actually "invent" this song?
Amazing...
JimiXpresion 4 years ago
No its a RAM JAM tune, that Pat Travers in the video.
bjk204 4 years ago
Ram Jam covered it-it's an old blues riff from the 30's.
SigalaSigala 4 years ago
Oh, you know who's riff is that?
I 've been looking for the first execution but as I dig in begining of blues,it's hard to find the riff.
Could it be Charley Patton or Son House?
I didn't find it...but if you know please share :-)
JimiXpresion 3 years ago
Lead Belly is the one that made it famous, but according to Wikipedia it was written in 1933 by John & Alan Lomax.
SigalaSigala 3 years ago
John & Alan Lomax didn't do music. They travelled and recorded the music they found.
