  • Pat puts on one of the best shows I have ever seen. It is nice to see him still rocking. I have been listening to him for over 30 years now. I remember getting my first copy of Putting It Straight for my birthday from a friend in the band. We practiced for hours and hours learning those songs. There are so many great twin solos in his music. You know this ol' boy works hard. Keep on playing shows here in Oregon so we can see ya!!! Cheers!

  • i saw PAT TRAVERS open for RAINBOW in 1981 at the l.a. forum and then open for AEROSMITH in 1983 at the long beach arena. glad he's still playin'.

  • Pat Travers is definately one of the most underappreciated guitar players in the last 50 years! The only better version of this song is Leadbelly's origional!

  • Hughey Ledbetter(lead belly) wrote this

  • Well all of my life in metal and I never knew Pat Travers was the band who played Black Betty. I would imagine that I was so inthralled with Iron Maiden and Ronnie Dio that I just didn't pick that little tidbit up. God forgive me.

  • @mozartgenetics Leadbelly wrote it, but Ram Jam released the most popular version back in the 70's. Pat is doing his version as he likes the song.

  • I listen to the music; dont watch the guys; If you want a stage show go see KISS

  • Sandy Genaro is a much better Drummer!

  • shit

  • Some of that old music will never die. I'm glad people still like it. That old 12 bar blues will live as long as people are here. You can't loose with that music and it is an upper. The blues is not always blue. It's that old time rock and roll. Cheers to you and all the great people that listen to you. Life is good.

  • they totally mangled the guitar part

  • @aaaarrrgggghh i can't believe you have the audacity to judge travers, how many of your songs were on the radio? um oh wait that would be none, because your not famous thats right.

  • wow this sucks,,only RAM JAM does it right

  • I live down the street from andy warhole

  • Fucking awesome and that is a hard tune to play!! 2 thumbs up!

  • lay off the beat

  • I requested this

black betty is an led belly song

  • @Tajooo14 Wrong. Lead Belly did it back in the 30's.

  • So Good!!!

  • gotta love Pat,the MAN is a rockstar, oozes the same attitude that Jeff Beck,Keef etc all have.

im good at this and i make it look SO easy!

    pure class

  • i met pat and got a sighned drum stick from the origanal band

  • This does kick ass but Ram Jam is not the original. It is in fact a cover of an old Leadbelly tune. Blues is rock and roll and rock and roll is the blues.

  • Pat is the fuckin' man.

    This is a great cover.

    Fuck that Spiderbait bullshit.

  • PT ROCKS

  • Freddie baby, we didn't go to jail that night. I still have the pictures. I know it;s been a long time but don't forget me. I still love you baby. How did you go from this to the rodeo business? Keep on doing your thing sweetheart. I miss you

  • This is amazing, much better then that dreadfull version by Spiderbait

  • i've never seen a bad pat travers show. persaonaly ive seen him 5 times

  • i love all Black betty versions but who made the original?

  • no one really knows for sure, but it is believed that an ol' blues man named "leadbelly" wrote it... gotta dig it :)

  • Ram Jam

  • ram jam

  • i always thought it was Ram Jam

  • Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter recorded the most famous early version in 1939, but the earliest recorded version is by a convict called James Baker in 1933. It's a "work song", a song designed to be sung by a team of workers with a strong rhythm to coordinate what they're doing.

Ram Jam recorded their version in 1977 and they definitely didn't write it, although their guitarist Bill Bartlett worked out the arrangement with the guitars and drums. Hope this answers your question.

  • it does, tthanks :)

  • Nigel says it's a 1959 Les Paul don't even look at it

  • lick my love pump...

  • Really? You think six guys standing around looking at each other, with no stage presence, is better than the legendary Pat Travers? That video of yours looked like band class practice, to me, just sayin'.

  • @quadracergirl I think band practice is better than his vid.

  • @quadracergirl Good one my quad racing friend. I know, I'm a year too slow. I'm seeing PT tonight in Donna Tx., so I thought I'd check out some of his stuff. Thanks for the vid.

  • Seen pat ,loads o times he rocks everytime ! great cover !

  • wow awesome cover

  • Two words: Nigel Tufnel

  • yea my dad stalks pat travers

  • Need a copy of the whole show, that would be a nice birthday present early, I am 50 soon.

  • I really dont know how I missed this show? I must have had to work.

I live in Portland, and know that leftys venue it was recorded is no longer a venue for live music, how unfortunate.

So seeing this on here is very special.

    kathy

  • bad ass drummer

  • first concert I ever seen;Pat Travers &Rainbow...damm Im Old

  • The guy on the left is playing a PRS Modern Eagle?

  • so does pat but singlecut

  • Pat is down to earth when I met him in a small club in Putnam, ct where I live and the band autographed a tape for me and allowed me to take many pictures of the band up close through the night. Disappointing was the amount of people in attendence. I felt like I had my own live concert

  • Reply to (tomartstone) 1 month ago hey man hows pat doing i had read in local press that he was having some major health problems. He used to play a lot here in sacramento, california but he hasn't been around in a while. It's great to hear he's still out there "ROCKIN OUT".

  • Hi bzaluh, It was several years ago that Pat played locally here so I don't know about his health. Saw him in the early days in small club in hometown Utica, NY. Guy was on FIRE!!!

  • i know ram jam did a great version of this old tune but this is actually pretty damn good (MY $.02)

  • Chris Spedding, too.

  • Pat total talent! and those that aren t familiar with him check out his cd's they are awesome and he is a humble great person.the rest of the band are humble cool musicians!

  • what a rarity, not only plays but sings like a motherfugger!

  • i like the choice of guitars!!! i also own a Prs

  • Tried a Parker Fly, comrade? That's my music machine....

  • He's playing it because he wants to!

  • What Pat is palying this song? are some relation with Ram Jam or just is an interpretation?

  • Pat Travers lives down the street from me.

Me and his son are close friends.

He drove us to our soccer game this morning.

    : )

  • That's cool. How was the game? I hope the younger generation takes the opportunity to enjoy music like this, his seems to be a dying breed.

  • we lost.

pat is teaching me to play guitar.

    it is really cool

  • @quadracergirl Fortunately some are. They are discovering their parents albums (vinyl) and wondering why their generation cant make music like this.

  • Hey! Tell Pat he's the reason I play Les Pauls!

  • okay.

: ) i got a pink one for my birthday. I love it!

  • Pat is a good guy. He autographed my daughter's shirt @ spring bike fest in Jax Fla 12 yrs ago (she was 2) and still have it. Much respect to P.T.

  • Who is kirk?

    Kirk who????????

  • i saw PT in Nov. 07 just after this one i suppose in a club of about 400 in Langley B.C.i had no idea that i was going to have a religious experience that night. i have never heard nor seen nor ever will again experience a show like that. i cannot get over how perfect Pat was in every aspect. i saw Van Halen the following month and Eddie VH should be ashamed of how bad he palys these days. he should have seen that show that i did- he might have learned something.

  • The man is a true professional. All that talent, and he steps to the side so the rhythm guitar player can enjoy his moment in the spotlight.

  • I was always pushing to do PT stuff in my old band. He's a natural, I love this kind of stuff - thanks for the post.

  • Um... Yea. But the rhythm guitarist looks like an old (OUTTA SHAPE) Adam Corolla.

  • lizblue61....blew 61 in shape dudes? Let's see a photo of yourself. Better yet, post some videos so I can leave you crappy comments. Tip of the day, you should stick to watching videos that you like. You sound awfully familiar...like that asshole Bill from New York!

  • THANKS FOR ADDING THIS! AWESOME PT! MISS YA RIZZO! LOVE THIS SONG! MISS YOU GUYS! KIRK, PAT IS BLESSED TO HAVE A FRIEND LIKE YOU AND SO AM I, THANK YOU!

    WITH LOVE ALWAYS,

    ~Kel~

  • THANK YOU FOR ADDING THIS! AWESOME PT! MISS YA FRANK!

    WITH LOVE ALWAYS!

    ~Kel~

  • So this execution must be the authentic, right?

Did this guy actually "invent" this song?

    Amazing...

  • No its a RAM JAM tune, that Pat Travers in the video.

  • Ram Jam covered it-it's an old blues riff from the 30's.

  • Oh, you know who's riff is that?

I 've been looking for the first execution but as I dig in begining of blues,it's hard to find the riff.

Could it be Charley Patton or Son House?

I didn't find it...but if you know please share :-)

  • Lead Belly is the one that made it famous, but according to Wikipedia it was written in 1933 by John & Alan Lomax.

  • John & Alan Lomax didn't do music. They travelled and recorded the music they found.

  • It's so old it's probably considered "traditional".It was probably originally a "field holler" Long live the blues!!

  • Having been a RAM JAM freak as well as a PT listener.......Just gotta say. DAMN The bass player just friggin nailed the run part during the solo. Much impressed. thanks Guys

  • Pat rock on this song. It is part of the set list on the band current tour. PT been rocking since the early 70's and hasn't missed a beat. He just kee[s geting better.

  • pt just knows how to work a crowd one of the greatest performers if youve never seen him well worth the ticket

  • Never heard of this guy before, but i like this ; )

  • Great stuff! We've posted some PT stuff that is RARE! RARE! RARE! All you Hammerheads check it out!!

  • As a young budding Guitarist, Pat was and still is one of my biggest influences.

Here's to one of the greatest rock guitarists of our time.

    P.T. ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Totally rocks!!!

  • Just a great track, awesome :)
