@vxAREKxv Anything by any of the guys in this group. They all have great solo careers and Vic's in Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, which is Vic plus a banjo player, Vic's brother who plays a percussion-type instrument he invented (the synthaxe drumitar, it's shaped like a guitar but makes percussion sounds), a sax player, and other random musicians (they played a few concerts with a guy who specializes in "Tuvan throat singing," for example)
This is good but these guys have music habits such as staying in one realm and genre too much all funk and jazz. They're very talented though but I would get tired of this style by 8-9 minutes album wise.
Have you considered the fact that funk and jazz is one realm? Much like metal is it's own realm? If you're great at something, no need to go into other areas that you aren't known for
An example: You'll never see concert pianist who's grown up around classical music all of a sudden pick up a guitar and play death metal.
All of these guys have grown up listening to Jazz and Funk. It's what they play, it's what they're known for. Maybe you should consider broadening your scopes?
Man as we thought you couldnt get any funkier...wow. The only other two missing is Jaco Pastorious and Larry Grahm. Them five would be called Funk Nirvana
why do you guys keep bringing other bass players into the mix there is no comparison, SMV are the best in the world period and no disrespcect but SMV would play any of those other guys under the table flea, les claypool mark king etc......
@DString20 I agree that Thunder is absolutely amazing, but saying that these guys can play every other bassist under the table is very naive. It makes you sound silly. There are lots of bassists that don't receive the recognition they deserve. Look up some of P-nut from 311's live bass solos; he hasn't made an album on his own, and I doubt that he will, but I guarantee he is more than capable.
@DString20 Funk bass, certainly. These guys are a class act. There are definately some other really great bassists around though (and no, I'm not counting the overrated ones you mentioned!).
@DString20 all bass players are different, Flea is a great bass player at what he does, so are Victor, Stanley and Marcus... Les Claypool can do things that none of these can do... theyre all great in their own right,
@DString20 You're implying your opinion is complete fact and everyone else's is wrong, is just stupid. Victor is good, but Les Claypool and Flea are a complete perfect match, if i must say so with out being an asshole.
@DiscoSheriffIsaac your right, technically it is an opinion , we could argue and go back and forth but the reason why I said what I said in my very first comment was because someone brought up Les Claypool,Flea and other rock bassist and none of them have anything to do with this video so why even mention them in the first place? I still stand by what I said but I respect your opinion and I'll leave it at that
I've never heard of any of these three guys before, but I sooo love this! This music is like 100 % pure distilled awesomeness! 8 ingorant people who disliked this.
holy christ! the gods came down and blessed these dudes! this is some shit. I've loved Stanley forever and heard of everything else but not SMV! i will be sidetracked for sometime now. . .
they all be lookin hella fresh and playin hella fresh!and look at their basses! good ol four string! woo :D you can hear a little bit of each person's style in here its awesome!
@1kydde2 You don't shred on the bass. Shredding is tasteless enough as it is on guitar, but if you're not grooving on the bass you're worthless. Stanley, Marcus and Victor always keep a groove going even when soloing, instead of mindlessly playing up and down scales very quickly.
@Tharapita Shredding is a neither here nor there kind of thing. Its a term used by people by lack of a better word. I have heard some of the most tastefuly soloing in what would be considered "shredding". then again, jeff beck and gary moore have an equal effect with fewer notes. theres nothing wrong with proficiency, its just how its applied. like you said though, groove is essential.
@1kydde2 yah my boy plays a 7 string he is bad ass..actually met victor a few years back in parkcity utah a really cool dude always has time for his fans...signed my sons bass..

Anyone else annoyed at Stanley Clarke's playing here? I know he is a legend, blah blah, but let's be honest: Vic and Marcus tore him apart in this tune
@movethatgroovethat I don't agree with your assesment, about Vic and Marcus out playing Stanley here. As you you must know Stanley, is by far the greatest of the trio.
@ShangoDC just because he's better than them doesn't mean he's playing better than them in this song... i can't tell the difference between them 'cause i haven't listened to them enough, so i can't make an assessment on who's playing better, but movethatgroovethat wasn't saying that they were better than him... he was just saying they played better right here.
@movethatgroovethat Stfu you piece of shit. This isn't a contest you asshole. This is about making music not about childish immature games. Grow up and suck a cock your dumb chimp.
This is awesome. From a music perspective, usually too many basses muddy the sound. But by playing in different registers it works out. It's really odd that I hadn't heard this until now.

@TheIceMan963 I really love wooten, miller and especially clarke.i am a bass player as well and was introduced to them through les claypool and his slap pop technique. these guys are the real deal and totally amazing musicians. anybody who denies that is just being ignorant.
@mitnavnerchristian 21st century punk is crap but bands like the descendents ALL and black flag were punk but incorperated like all put some prog and funk in some of there songs and black flag were really experimental i love punk but you cant play forever it does get a little boring but i still like it but im not one those guys that only listen to punk my other favorites are jazz prog funk
great bassists, but this is what happens when you get 3 bassists trying to produce an album and good tracks.... It sounds weird and obscure, I mean why the fuck would you listen to this unless your some sort of retarded fat geek trying to pull a bird who's way out of your league. Guys, step back into line and compliment some great band and song writer. Just concentrate on keeping the tempo with the drimmer guys and stop trying to do stuff you cant.
well dude your at the right place to start for just listening's sake. these are some incredible bassists. you should check out some bela fleck and the flecktones. i love bela and wooten's impecable chemistry in that band
Thumbs up!!

Just concentrate on keeping the tempo with the drimmer guys and stop trying to do stuff you cant.

a jealous guitarist?

I would like to say you one thing : if you don't try to play hard stuff again and again and again, you'll never play it good and won't progress.

and it's a really good feeling when finally nail something you've been trying to get for a while
