Whatever you do, don't get the Winchester Super-X High Velocity bulk pack for this gun. It's too weak to reliably work the action...got 14 failures out of 80 today.
I have the newer Q model as well, and it's been very reliable as long as you don't limp-wrist it. I have no idea what improvements they've made (possibly polished the feed ramp better?), but it's been very reliable compared to what people say on the internet.
I used cci stingers in mine and mini mags. never ever any problem. American eagle he didn't like. Thunderbolts worked 98% of the time. Nice litle shooter
My buddy has a p22 with the extended barrel. I really like how it shoots, but like most .22s it is a little picky with ammo. Also the barrel got leaded up easily with cheap ammo. After a few hundred shots we started keyholing in the target. A good scrubbing and it was shooting great again. Great vid! Fun gun.
Great looking little plinker. May I ask what firearm or firearms DocTacMom uses for concealed carry? My wife just passed her class and is struggling to find just the right handgun. Thanks guys! And hope all the DocTacFamily has a wonderful Christmas!
My take on .22 ammo for pistols is stay away from the cheap Winchester 333 or 555. Does not feed well. Remmington Thunderbolt and Federal solid nose and of course all CCI ammo work verry well in the german 1911-.22's.
I've had one for a couple years now (22, not the Q). I can say this.... I had the same issues as many discussed here. Don't bother about ammo as much, that will change when the gun is broken in. I also polished my feed ramp (plenty on that in the Walther P22 bible, google is your friend here). Polishing helped, but still had some jams from time to time. Now, I also use it when I teach a class. Between my 13 year old son, and classes, that thing is broken in. Now, I can use ANY cheap ammo.
Really like the color! And the "Q" feels so much more ergonomic. We have P22 and love it. My only complaint is that the safety is UP to fire. Those issues you are having will work themselves out as it breaks in. As far as bulk ammo goes, mine had trouble with the Walmart bulk too. I have not had a single failure to feed, fire, or eject with CCI Blazer bulk ammo. Also have not had trouble with Mini-Mags or Velocitors, but I think Velocitors would be hard on it over time.
Interesting how different weapons like/dislike different ammo. My Mark III will go through a box of Federal "Champion" bulk ammo (525rnds) and have "maybe" three failures of various types. But I'll have a 45% failure rate with Remington Thunderbolt and about a 40% failure rate with "Peters", also a Remington product.
With the Thunderbolt and Peters you can hear the difference in powder content between the rounds and I get many a failure to eject.
I dont have any issues with the Federal bulk ammo. The only problem I have had is with Remington bulk ammo. And yes they like to run on the wet side. lube it up and it will be happy.

It is so nice to see the gals shooting. Seems like so many don't like guns. Congrats to you both.

Try the Remington Thunderbolt .22 value pack. I have had 2 P22's both love them and hate the Walmart Federal Bulk pack.
