This debate is dumb. Al was bitter once, but he forgave Trent because it's impossible to be angry at someone who gives such good head. In fact, that's how Trent got pretty much everyone he ever ripped off to forgive him.
Hahahaha! This shit is so old and people still bitching about it. Al is just joking. He and Trent are in good terms with each other. Well, not a shocker that NIN fans dont have sense of humor.
@blootoober eat that you, i'm vegan lol. did you asked google? i never said al isn't influential, less or more, trent reznor is godlike now a days, you know it, and yes, al taught my boy, but my boy learned and made it 100000 ways better :) ask google again if you dont know how to read a book.
Don't even try to compare these two musically. Al was playing and recording and paving the way for guys like reznor who commercialized the industrial scene in the 90's. Listen to Ministry's Twitch album if you wanna hear fantastic hardcore industrial sound. Its basically an Al Jourgensen solo album.
NIN and Ministry are both great. But am I the only one here who thinks Al is acting a bit insecure? I mean Trent may or may not be an egotistical asshole, but I think that's certainly the case with Al.
Reznor is a sad sack he definatley didn't deserve an oscar for the social network although i thought it was a close second Hans Zimmer should have won that hands down for inception.
Trent is a whiny bitch for real. All his songs are about digging himself a hole of misery and purposely burying himself in it to feel sobbing and separate from the world because he is egotistical. Fans that worship him usually reflect this egotistical desire as well. Glad I grew out of NIN when I was 16.
I love the band Ministry, but the guy's a fucking asshole. Regardless, personality has nothing to do with how good your band is or what amount of talent you have. Ministry and NIN are two different bands in the world of industrial music, both good in their own ways. You can't really compare one to the other, and NIN has stemmed into more Electronic/ Experimental anyways. Each of them did their own thing, Ministry did not "invent" NIN.
Ministry is the godfather of industrial. Trent Reznor and his whiny NIN would not have shit if Mr. Al Jourgenson had not blown the door open for other bands with his originality Nd innovation. Al can say anything he wants. Marilyn Manson, Trent Reznor, and all those other industrial/techno knockoffs have him to thank. He did it when nobody cared. He doesn't give a fuck! God bless Al Jougenson.
@shystr0518 People are so fucking stupid to say if it wasnt for one band the another would have never existed. So then who did ministry rip off. Ministry who?, by the way. Trent pisses more talent than this whole band is made up of.
@pauisnow just prove that your an idiot dude, Ministry is the 1 guy you see in this video in the studio, and saying Trent has more talent is opinion, and the typical response of a NIN fanboy when someone puts down Trent, they all come on in to wipe the shit from his ass and protect him. truth be told Ministry is alot more innovative for mixing a hard rock/metal sound with harsh electronics, something Trent admired Al for, even said in 06 Ministry was NINs biggest continuing influence.
@StretchDouche actually, iwouldnt say thats a bad thing, but it seems since trent has taken less time between records, his material has taken a turn for the worse, not saying its utter shit, but YZ and The Slip dont have shit on Fragile, DS, or WT

Frankly "speaking" I'm not really that impressed by the output of Ministry or NIN after say around 1995 or so. I can't really get behind the idea that either one of them are "keeping it real" being "punk rock" or any of that rubbish. They are both very successful mainstream acts. They have made absurd amounts of money and are far from unique, groundbreaking or cutting edge. It's a well known fact that Al Jourgenson wanted to be part of L'oreal, the most succesful retail cosmetics company in the world, that Al even went to the L'oreal College to become a hairdresser.
NIN flat-out raped Ministry's music in every way possible over the years. Ministry was industrial before it was even a fucking genre....like 10 years before before king douchey (Trent) ever even made a demo.
I think Al went really light, compared to what he could have said. Trent's a tremendous emo twat and a fucking theif. The 'similarities' of NIN's live show and records are not a 'coincedence'.
@ColaberMilk ~ Uh, no, RIGHT assclown. Actually Al Jourgenson wrote Twitch in the late 70's around the time of SPK's first recording. He just didn't get to record and release it until 1985. So they both were doing similar things at the same fucking time, SPK just happened to get a record deal and release first, retard. So it's more of a matter of opinion on who came first, rather than fact. Anyone knows Ministry defined the genre and lasted the longest, and had copycats like NIN, you leaky twat.
@AntZombie121 - Throbbing Gristle? Haha, oooo k. Spoken word over gay synth beats and screaming into the mic to hear your own reverb is not industrial as we know it. Most of their stuff sounds like bullshit noise, there is no musical quality what so ever. They were together, what, 5 years. Al Jourgeson has been in music for 35 years, had so many different projects. What has Trent done besides totally rip off Ministry? Nothing. I haven't heard his name in like 5 yrs. He's a leaky emo twat, like u
@AntZombie121 ~ And also, I couldn't give less of a fuck what Wikipedia says....it's not gospel. All you little douches throwing out Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle and SPK weren't even born in the 70's or even in the 80's for that matter, so you've gotton all your info off of the internet. Gay. Just because TG had a label called Industrial doesn't mean they invented the genre. People just backtracked after the fact and came to that conclusion and automatically associated them with it. Cock
@dubgreen76 really, they defined industrial, true industrial, like monte cazzaza industrial? I don't think so. Also, SPK only got a record deal when they became a shitty pop band. Early SPK was real industrial, listen to Information Overload Unit or Leichenschrei, that is real industrial. Sure, Ministry is good rock music with industrial sounds, but it is defiantly not Real Industrial
I don't think this is overly mean. I was a big NIN fan growing up and had one Ministry CD I hardly got to know, but in all I have read up from him, Trent comes off as laughably down on his own existence... to the point where one has to say, "C'mon man... life's hard! Get over it!" Al J. is just saying what most dudes would say about someone like that. Maybe lacking some tact to do it in an interview, but no one is perfect.
What a fucking dickhead!!! I feel like smashing the one and only Ministry cd i have... Keep sucking Obama Al, you fucking hypocrite!! At least Trent Reznor doesn't go round mouthing off about how he'd leave his country if a democrat didn't get elected. Jourgensen speaks out against the New World Order only when it suits his own agenda!!!
@DarkMedievalTimes1 awwww the poor NIN fan is mad lol. Trents a dick, he acts like hes gods gift to music nowdays, get over yourself and your pathetic idol
@DarkMedievalTimes1 if hes not ur idol then i see no reason as to why you got so upset about one musician saying shit about another musician. btw trents still a dick ;). also i didnt say he was a god i said he acts like he's a gods gift to the music world, read next time.
Oh well. It's Trent's dark side that produced all those wonderful NIN songs. Do you think somebody who was all happy and positive could have written that stuff? I think that's why Trent has moved on to a new project and put NIN aside. It's hard to be depressed when you are rich, get paid to do what you love, and married to a girl worthy of being in Playboy. He's not a pissed off 20-30 year old anymore.
Alain could give a fuck about a Grammy. That shit's beneath him. Alain is the real deal. He never got soft, made his music more accessible, or preached atop a soapbox. And I'm not dissing Trent. He's great too, but Alain lacks Trent's pompousness.
@JJheadcharge oh my God, that's the stupidest comment I've read in a long time. Do you think Al ever wanted a Grammy? Listen to his albums and tell me how they're Grammy oriented :)
@JJheadcharge That's the thing.. Trent "posermotherfuckingcunt" Reznor cares about shit like that. Real rock stars don't.. They do their shit and couldn't care less about what you think about it. "Like it? Good." "Don't like it? So what? [sic] Fuck off."
@gunslinger861 How many times is he supposed to do the same shit over again? The guy's 40+yrs old and married, how angry do you think he is? LOL I thought With Teeth and Year Zero were pretty fucking good.
I thought The Slip and With Teeth were equally mediocre IMO but The Slip is worse by default considering it followed Ghosts and Year Zero, as well as being his final LP release as NIN.
@WFerraro meh, it's just the same old refried dross. The Fragile may have been the creative peak of his career, then he went rock bottom and monetarily vanished for a few years only to come back with the same old ideas diluted down into something more sensible for the pop universe. He started off as an artist with some different ideas, but this past decade he truly has fizzled out into to a middle aged man with nothing left in his old repertoire but more of the same rustic, worn out angst.
@MrPekingCat You listened to Year Zero and Ghosts and seriously thought it was the "same old, refried dross"? To each his own; music is subjective and thus, not worth debating over for long. But to say his career has fizzled is nuts. Trent just won a Golden Globe and an Oscar, what the fuck is Al Jourgensen doing?
@WFerraro I don't know..keep in it mind it was for score to the Social Network..Is this really Trent Reznor staying true to his artistic creed? The songs I heard off of Year Zero never really impressed me so much..Ghosts pretty much was a culmination of his past years in the indeed unrefined dross form of instrumentals never fleshed out into actual songs. Actually, the Slip is a bit a better compared to his more recent works this past decade, a bit more of a fresh creative spark here.
I love Trent & Al, but who is Al to call anyone miserable? He's the guy that broke Ministry up b/c he couldn't stand the touring b/c he hates everyone & everything. And is Trent more miserable than Al's drummer who slit his own throat to the point of almost decapitating himself? IF they all weren't miserable we wouldn't have the great music they both made.
@JoeCool031619 William Tucker guitarist TKK (not Al's drummer) He had a painful medical condition. Google Willam Tucker remembrance and read his mother, Bev Tucker's comment please.
to you people that call al an asshole,, trent gets picked on by al due to al was like the older brother back in the 80's; al and ohgr both.. trent was the little kid trying to fit in back then trust me i did it to my drummer all of us did thats all we did at practice rehearsal whatever we would make it a past time to pick on our drummer cuz he was the youngest and was trying to fit in which unfortunatly in my case our drummer is a complete idiot and trent is a very intelligent person
@ArmchairMessiah you must get picked on to comment me with that, your abuse hasnt made you a man yet. i got picked on and i love it i pick and ppl pick back its my fav pastime
i love ministry, but this is pretty cold shit...al's one of trent's heroes and he's talking about him like he's not even a person...i mean, imagine if you heard YOUR idol talking about you like this..
I don't think Al really thinks that bad of Trent or NiN... For a while Al even had a quote on his website of Trent praising Ministry; basically saying that without Ministry there would be no NiN. So they have must have some admiration between them. If Al didn't see any worth in NiN, he wouldn't even had posted the quote from Trent to begin with.
no. you did, its okay. I used to worship Ministry too until I realized what an asshole Al J was which was at the point that i started to like other industrial metal bands for the music and nothing else.
Don't get me wrong I enjoy trents first four album very much. They are still great. But Al always struck me as much less self-involved or full of himself. Less whining! They were all big Joy Division rip offs. But it's hard to escape the past.

someone who is vastly superior to reznor lol... not that NIN sucks(at least most of there stuff doesnt) but there are way better musicians in the industrial scene then trent and NIN.
doesnt matter, he plays that type of music, hes industrial, thats like saying idk.... Gorgoth is black metla but they say "we dont like being called a black metal band".
ok but Gorgoroth do exclusively play Black Metal or something similar structured. Listen to "Still" or "With Teeth" and both albums have NOTHING to do with industrial, nothing. "The Fragile" has some industrial influences but I wouldn't call it an industrial album as well.
@hellchild65 Agree With Teeth in my opinion is the last album that Trent kept his original industrial NIN sound (they still had it). The Year Zero album was when it totally went hay wire.
Yeah man He lost every ounce of respect to me . Play your music and STFU . If he played his music before and same way in the early 90s , and Obama was in Office ,then his music would be probably banned .We all know how Liberals Like to be bashed and how well they take it .Isnt there a saying DONT shit in your own Plate ? Talk about taking things for granted .
early NIN is awesome. modern NIN is alright. old instrustrial (ie skinny puppy) was a lot weirder and more ambitious, but I mean come on - anyone who likes the genres that were "underground" in the 80s (industrial, grunge, non-shit metal) has to be happy that people like reznor brought these genres into the limelight in the 90s. The 90s was awesome exactly because good music was popular.
but ministry are just fucking jealous because theyh turned to shit and no one other than the fanbase likes them anymore.NIN are very original, have good lyrics and song writing skills, revolutionise computer use and the internet, and reznor comes out of a completely different scene (80's dicso). Its the same reason the metal scene is shit, cause everyone has a cry when someone gets famous. OFTEN WHEN YOU START A BAND YOU WANT AS MANY PEOPLE TO HEAR. THIS IS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, NOT SELLING OUT.
NIN last two albums are *very original?* You're stoned out of your mind, aren't you? And I agree with jmh1971 - he isn't doing anything Skinny Puppy hasn't already done, but better. At least Ministry gets pissed off and puts out good CD's whenever there is a republican administration.
they are quite original actually, can you name what they are? NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING THAT IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. especially seeing nin are not fro mthe early 80's, not only that, ministry have put out many bad cd's even fans can admit that, and not only that, if you truly listened to NIN you would realise, all his songs are about shitty governments, thus why he stated when Obama got in "i have just lost 90% of my inspiration"
Really like "The Last Sucker, The Last Dubber, and Rio Grande Dubya"?? All three were shit. Well Last Sucker Was ok. Ministry needs to stop trying to be political and just make music. Rantology is by far their best work though.
I was part of their fanbase but the whole constant "fuck G.W." ruined them for me. Once in awhile a song is ok but not 4 fucking albums dedicated to it. Fucking get over it. And now Al praises obama?? WTF its music not politics.
Well if someone's passionate about politics and it's something they care about... It's up to him where he gets his inspiration. The fact that he's right doesn't make any difference.

The 'similarities' of NIN's live show and records are not a 'coincedence'.
dubgreen76 1 year ago
@dubgreen76 wrong, throbbing gristle and SPK were around before Ministry or NIN, read up on your industrial you cock fool
ColaberMilk 1 year ago
@ColaberMilk ~ Uh, no, RIGHT assclown. Actually Al Jourgenson wrote Twitch in the late 70's around the time of SPK's first recording. He just didn't get to record and release it until 1985. So they both were doing similar things at the same fucking time, SPK just happened to get a record deal and release first, retard. So it's more of a matter of opinion on who came first, rather than fact. Anyone knows Ministry defined the genre and lasted the longest, and had copycats like NIN, you leaky twat.
dubgreen76 1 year ago
@dubgreen76 throbbing gristle created industrial music and Trent was far more creative than ministry and teats why he was more successful end of
AntZombie121 1 year ago
@AntZombie121 - Throbbing Gristle? Haha, oooo k. Spoken word over gay synth beats and screaming into the mic to hear your own reverb is not industrial as we know it. Most of their stuff sounds like bullshit noise, there is no musical quality what so ever. They were together, what, 5 years. Al Jourgeson has been in music for 35 years, had so many different projects. What has Trent done besides totally rip off Ministry? Nothing. I haven't heard his name in like 5 yrs. He's a leaky emo twat, like u
dubgreen76 1 year ago
@AntZombie121 ~ And also, I couldn't give less of a fuck what Wikipedia says....it's not gospel. All you little douches throwing out Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle and SPK weren't even born in the 70's or even in the 80's for that matter, so you've gotton all your info off of the internet. Gay. Just because TG had a label called Industrial doesn't mean they invented the genre. People just backtracked after the fact and came to that conclusion and automatically associated them with it. Cock
dubgreen76 1 year ago
@dubgreen76 really, they defined industrial, true industrial, like monte cazzaza industrial? I don't think so. Also, SPK only got a record deal when they became a shitty pop band. Early SPK was real industrial, listen to Information Overload Unit or Leichenschrei, that is real industrial. Sure, Ministry is good rock music with industrial sounds, but it is defiantly not Real Industrial
ColaberMilk 1 year ago
@ColaberMilk - Pfffttt....what the fuck ever Dr. music. Those bands are all shit...every fucking one of them. It's barely music....maybe.

Jourgensen speaks out against the New World Order only when it suits his own agenda!!!

@hellchild65 yeah, whatever. Al Jourgenson is still a dickhead!!!

WFerraro 1 year ago 16
@WFerraro no with teeth was good year wasnt bad but the slip was horrible
gunslinger861 1 year ago
@gunslinger861
I thought The Slip and With Teeth were equally mediocre IMO but The Slip is worse by default considering it followed Ghosts and Year Zero, as well as being his final LP release as NIN.
JJheadcharge 1 year ago
@WFerraro meh, it's just the same old refried dross. The Fragile may have been the creative peak of his career, then he went rock bottom and monetarily vanished for a few years only to come back with the same old ideas diluted down into something more sensible for the pop universe. He started off as an artist with some different ideas, but this past decade he truly has fizzled out into to a middle aged man with nothing left in his old repertoire but more of the same rustic, worn out angst.
MrPekingCat 10 months ago
@MrPekingCat You listened to Year Zero and Ghosts and seriously thought it was the "same old, refried dross"? To each his own; music is subjective and thus, not worth debating over for long. But to say his career has fizzled is nuts. Trent just won a Golden Globe and an Oscar, what the fuck is Al Jourgensen doing?
WFerraro 10 months ago
@WFerraro I don't know..keep in it mind it was for score to the Social Network..Is this really Trent Reznor staying true to his artistic creed? The songs I heard off of Year Zero never really impressed me so much..Ghosts pretty much was a culmination of his past years in the indeed unrefined dross form of instrumentals never fleshed out into actual songs. Actually, the Slip is a bit a better compared to his more recent works this past decade, a bit more of a fresh creative spark here.
MrPekingCat 10 months ago
Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

I don't think Al really thinks that bad of Trent or NiN... For a while Al even had a quote on his website of Trent praising Ministry; basically saying that without Ministry there would be no NiN. So they have must have some admiration between them. If Al didn't see any worth in NiN, he wouldn't even had posted the quote from Trent to begin with.

doesnt matter, he plays that type of music, hes industrial, thats like saying idk.... Gorgoth is black metla but they say "we dont like being called a black metal band".
hellchild65 1 year ago
@hellchild65
ok but Gorgoroth do exclusively play Black Metal or something similar structured. Listen to "Still" or "With Teeth" and both albums have NOTHING to do with industrial, nothing. "The Fragile" has some industrial influences but I wouldn't call it an industrial album as well.

the fragile not industrial? your fucking kidding me, that album is pretty dman industrial, even with teeth is industrial

early NIN is awesome. modern NIN is alright. old instrustrial (ie skinny puppy) was a lot weirder and more ambitious, but I mean come on - anyone who likes the genres that were "underground" in the 80s (industrial, grunge, non-shit metal) has to be happy that people like reznor brought these genres into the limelight in the 90s. The 90s was awesome exactly because good music was popular.
mawhar 2 years ago
but ministry are just fucking jealous because theyh turned to shit and no one other than the fanbase likes them anymore.NIN are very original, have good lyrics and song writing skills, revolutionise computer use and the internet, and reznor comes out of a completely different scene (80's dicso). Its the same reason the metal scene is shit, cause everyone has a cry when someone gets famous. OFTEN WHEN YOU START A BAND YOU WANT AS MANY PEOPLE TO HEAR. THIS IS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, NOT SELLING OUT.
smallfatty 2 years ago
NIN last two albums are *very original?* You're stoned out of your mind, aren't you? And I agree with jmh1971 - he isn't doing anything Skinny Puppy hasn't already done, but better. At least Ministry gets pissed off and puts out good CD's whenever there is a republican administration.
legionXTS 2 years ago
they are quite original actually, can you name what they are? NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING THAT IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. especially seeing nin are not fro mthe early 80's, not only that, ministry have put out many bad cd's even fans can admit that, and not only that, if you truly listened to NIN you would realise, all his songs are about shitty governments, thus why he stated when Obama got in "i have just lost 90% of my inspiration"
smallfatty 2 years ago
Really like "The Last Sucker, The Last Dubber, and Rio Grande Dubya"?? All three were shit. Well Last Sucker Was ok. Ministry needs to stop trying to be political and just make music. Rantology is by far their best work though.

Well if someone's passionate about politics and it's something they care about... It's up to him where he gets his inspiration. The fact that he's right doesn't make any difference.
