I used to live in the Wet Mountain Valley in Colorado - torandoes are extremely rare there, too. So when I take a trip to Alaska in '97, guess what? A tornado was there and I missed it. I moved to Woodland Park. This tornado happenes and I miss it. Then another one last summer. Missed it. Part of me feels cheated, another says I probably should be grateful. But I would still like to see one before I die. Maybe I'll visit Oklahoma . . .
i had just gone through woodland park about 45 minutes before this and then i was in colorado springs when the other tornado was in colorado springs. interesting day.
Very unusual for the high country of Colorado. I used to live in nearby Cripple Creek....tornados are not even thought of up there. Amateur's or not...the footage is noteworthy..simply because a tornado in that region is rare.
Yeah... i remember this... i was working at RMDRC at the time... Nothing more unsettling than having funnel clouds over head while you're inside a steel frame building with 50-600 pound bones all around you...
I live in KY and we are used to tornado's. What I don't get is why people venture out like these men in this video who know nothing of what a tornado can do to you and your home, would put themselves in danger for a thrill. Tornado's can change direction at a split and come towards you. I was 5 when the April 3rd tornado hit our state in 1974. I never forgot it, I was in a ditch and it sounds like a freight train. It went over our heads and took out homes. Please stay home in the basement.
Yeah.. it was pretty cool though.. I know I already left a comment here.. But oh well.. It was really cool. And when that was happening I was on the phone with one of my friends. I live around Widefield, but even so. We were talking about what we were watching on the news.. It was kind of funny actually.. XD
Small world even on the internet...this video popped up and I decided to watch it since we had family in Woodland Park...I recognized my brother-in-law's voice immediately! Hey Chris - alright kids stay in the house!!
I see a rotating mesocyclone and a wallcloud in here. We is the tornado at? Nothing appears to be touching the ground, nor do I see any signs of debris.
It touched down about 8 miles from where I was, as the crow flies, in the national forest of Hyw 67 N and Painted Rocks. We went to the top of Blue Bird Hill to get video when the warning went out. I don't have footage of the debris or trees flying... :(
hi Mar. when a tornado forms, it doesn't have to show the whole cone. The dust and any debris can just be kicking up from the ground-surface even when no to-the-ground cone is showing. I hope I helped ya out, my friend.
So this is awesome... I started taking pictures on Edlow read at about 3:30 so before you went on edlow.. Good footage. I have some also if you would like to check it out..
ahaha I remember this

Saw several (2-3) funnel clouds about 430-445 here in Colorado Springs that afternoon.
I was doing a roofing job not even an hour earlier in Fountain. Talk about Lucky!

THis is sad, but tis not a tornado.. not close. Its just a low hanging wallcloud which tornadoes come out of. Nothing to see here folks.
Martek100 4 years ago
Interesting. It leveled over 100 acres of trees off painted rocks.

Yeah, thats why it destroyed a bunch of crap
