  • everyone needs to shut the fuck up!

  • @Will101page ugh.. I respect your passion.... But you're being a hypocrite. The architectural firm that designed the Bishopsgate Tower is headquartered in NYC. Stop trying to claim that London is better than NYC. Its equivalent to saying that ice is better than water... Respect them both.

  • @admx94 if your tired of london or new york then your tired of life end of!!!

  • @mikeyUK I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE! People need to stop bickering about NYC vs London. It's tit for tat... You're completely right... BOTH NYC AND LONDON ARE IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN. I love the bishops gate tower, 1WTC, ESB, shard... etc.

  • London is a bland and boring city and the people there are just the same. This is why their food sucks and they reject awesome buildings of this magnitude.

  • @mattmadsen17 Haha, what a pathetic attempt at trolling. Get a life.

  • @wjfox2006 Your just an assbackwards fuck tard. This is why the UK eats shit

  • @mattmadsen17 Another lame attempt at trolling. Why did you even bother posting this? Grow up. It's spelt "you're" by the way.

  • @mattmadsen17 ha ha you got owned. and you deserved it, loser

  • @mattmadsen17 hahaha fucking stupid american. London is the best city in the world. This building is under construction, its not been rejected idiot

  • @mattmadsen17 You're just a bitter, illiterate jealous fuck who couldn't survive in the greatest city in the world - London. Stay in your socially backward american town, because you know you're too much of a pussy to cope with the fastpaced, international lifestyle and greatness that is present in London. Fuck off.

  • @mattmadsen17 food sucks?? we have the best resteraunts in the world dickhead' fact the best music scene the best shops london is anything go's man new york is conservative as fuck ya cant move without them stormtrooper coppers on your arse' we'r free your not' LONDON CAPITAL OF THE WORLD so shut the fuck up vilage fucking retard!!!

  • @TheHEADonWHEELS You don't think 288 metres is tall enough? I'm about as pro-skyscraper as they come, but even I have to admit, a building twice as tall as that would be excessive.

  • Comment removed

  • I Hope this building is never built. I'm in no way against skyscrapers in London, I think the shard and leadenhall are magnificent, but this is a sloppy, cumbersome and inappropriate design. London needs to develop but for the better not for the worse, this will marr our city in an irreversible way. Besides I think the floor plates are too big and unattractive to potential tenants which they need to get this built.

  • this and the shard look cool... in dubai... but london is london. theres nowhere else like it, not even in the uk. its got its unique history and style. There should be some reflection of london in the design, whats with all these foriegn designers wanting to knock down our heritage... i mean they wanted to knock down parts of stpancreas station and the hotel.... i mean what the hell. You'll never be able to top that kind of architecture.

Atleast reflect londons UNIQUENESS and IDENTITY

  • @rikuziyi

Please do some actual research on the project before commenting on it. They won't be demolishing any heritage to build this. It replaces a fairly nondescript 1970s office block. And I believe the design is outstanding. A fitting centrepiece for London's financial district. Part of London's strength is its ability to blend the old and modern, the traditional and the cutting edge. So what's the problem? London has ALWAYS changed and evolved. You can't expect it to remain a museum city.

  • @wjfox2006 i dont want to do any research thanks i know theres nothing being knocked down. If you want everything in the world to look exactly the same you go for it.... love the imagination there. I'm talking about design detail... you can reflect a culture and its history in a new and modern way without building another glass box... all be it a tall one. Theres no blending with the "old and the modern and the traditional and cutting edge" its purely modern with no identitiy.

  • I could not agree any more

  • His voice makes me want to commit.

  • Does anyone know whether it will be possible to see this a slight view of this building from Seven Sisters / Tottenham, North London? Thanks

  • Worlds worst voice-over. Love the building though.

  • 0:03 i though it was turning into the mission impossible theme lol

  • I'm not sure about this, that aerial shot of the planned city-centre looks worryingly like Downtown LA (a few skyscrapers surrounded by low-level sprawl going off as far as the eye can see, and frankly LA is a dump, also a lot of these skyscrapers look straight from some futuristic Asian City like Hong Kong

I hoped London would build it's skyscrapers to look "uber" New York (sort of like "Gotham city") Crystler and Empire state type buildings.

It would suit London Better I think

  • @homerbear46 For everybody who doesn't know this bear boning animal paedophile, look at his disgusting hypocrisy on the video: "China Outraged Over U.S. Arms Deal With Taiwan " Like any paid communist, it questions the 9/11 narrative, but it swallows up Chinese propaganda quicker than toilet shit.

  • LOL@Rocketeer1001

running around "stalking" different comment-threads and appealing to "everybody" (none of whom GIVE A FUCK)

just makes you look like MORE of a pussified, OWNED..... B I T CH

    Cockatears

    hahahahahahahahahah

  • I love it when people caption images of London as "London, England"

Seriously, who's never heard of London?

    No need for "England" after.

  • You can't judge London and New York.

Each are alpha cities, undoubtedly the greatest cities in the world.

Similar yet very unique in their own right.

  • I travel through Bishopsgate everyday on my way to work. The Heron tower is almost there. I can't wait to start watching the Pinnacle rise!

  • There are going to be some seriously stunning buildings in the next 2-3 years in the City and London Bridge. The Heron tower is 3/4 complete, Shard is starting to take shape and the foundations have been dug for the Pinnacle.

  • Is it even going to be built? I hope so!

  • Yes it is, they've started construction...walked past the site almost everyday. The actual information board at the site says it will be 306m tall.

  • I like the shape, I don't like thats its going to be covered in glass

  • is it being built ?

  • can anyone tell me when bishopsgate will top out ?? thanks

  • WHO DO YOU ALL THINK YOU ARE?

  • according to a lot of websites this should be built next year or in 2011

  • I'm glad London's getting tall buildings but I don't really like the Bishopsgate tower, from some angles it looks amazing but from others it really does not. Still, it's unique and that's a big plus.

  • Even if there is demand for them?

  • Bout time London started to catch up with New York!

  • @jameshowlett1991 No, London is already beating New York.

  • The project contains over 1 million square feet of floorspace. Would you honestly prefer if they designed a ground-hogging, stumpy, inelegant block?

  • Comment removed

  • London could never have more high rise buildings than new york due to the fact that LDN is built on soft clay and NY sits on hard rock giving it very suitable foundations.

  • Comment removed

  • lol u r so funny, do stand up comedy. when you dig deep for the pilling and foundations you get clay U DUMB FUCK

  • londons mostly built on water lol....new york is almost completely man made from midtown to lower. but yes london will never have more high rise buildings then new york. we have more projects than them and already have far more buildings.

  • You're right. In terms of area, London is twice the size of New York.

  • its bigger in area but much smaller in terms of population

  • na mate

  • its not meant to be a derogatory comment about London my friend, it's just a fact. London has a smaller population than NYC......... It doesnt make it better or worse, chill out.

  • i am "chilled out" thanks. Yes London has a smaller population of 7.5 million compared to New Yorks 8.5 million i think, but you said "a much smaller population" a million people isnt much when your talking about global cities..

  • i dunno where you get figure of 8.5 million? please could you tell me. I'll tell you that all figures I've looked at have told me that NYC has between 18 million and 19.5 million people.

Btw, I'm British and proud. I'm not sticking up for either city, i'm just stating facts, like i said before buddy ;)

  • New York has a city population of 8.5m and a surrounding metro area population of 19m.

London has a city population of 7.5m and a surrounding metro area population of 13m.

The stats are easy to find, just look on Wikipedia.

  • Actually the official London metro population is 18 million.

  • wjfox2006 took the words out of my mouth u bellend

  • London is half the size of new york population wise and 1/4th financially. new york has over 6000 skyscrapers and London has around 500. in no way is London bigger then new york.

  • well maybe but london area is bigger sorry your wrong

  • how does the size of the cities land make it more dominate? if that was so anchorage alaska would be far greater then london. and still new york wins in ever important category

  • Comment removed

  • london is bigger than ny in area but who gives a shit, i'v been to ny many times, fab city, i'd say it's a tie as the 2 greatest cities in the world, also i think ny is safer than london these days, avoid south london, shark infested waters man!!

  • lol il take ur advice. and ye new york and london are considered the worlds only alpha +++ cities so they are the top.

  • @ciglite I mean to new york, it doesn't compare to London. New York is so..bland, so plain, so american. London is so fast, international and has absolutely everything one can dream of! New York doesn't have a football stadium, so it fails to cater my first interest of all - football. The people there are deluded and arrogant. the city as a whole sucks balls, to be honest. Everytime I'm in London I love it, i want to move there.

  • ofcox population of ny is a lot bigger than london but London area is bigger than New york city common sense hv a look in google map

  • Height isnt the only measurment when trying to gauge a city's size. The area of greater London is larger than New York. The London underground is testament to that - its the most extensive in the world.

Also, look up the population stats on wikipedia - population of metropolitan areas.

Anyway, when was population an indication of how good a city is? Ive been to mexico city - what a hole. Population 20million

  • Does anyone have any knowledge of when this thing will start rising?

It's been under construction now for about 2 years and still a load of diggers.

    Anyone got any news?

  • I can't watch this without laughing after seeing Peter Wynne Rees from the Corportation of the City of London dressed from head to foot in leather and carrying a whip round a club.

  • The "Pinnacle"is gorgeous and reminds me of the "Tour First"(or "CB31") in

  • Paris La Défense

  • la city, canary wharf and la defense il font de baucoup de nouvelle tour.

  • Indeed, but many of them are seriously delayed or even threatened owing to the crisis:-( Check this out: "Hermitage Plaza","Tour D2"," Tour Phare","Tour Generali","Tour Signal","Tour Aire2" etc...

  • This year, only the "Tour First" will be finished(2010),and only the "Tour Carpe Diem" & "Tour Generali" have obtained its building permission.None of those huge towers will start before 2011(crisis:-( Bye dude.

  • currently under construction

  • (delivery in June 2010)

  • it's shorter though, with 228m,it's a makeover from an existing building)but its spiral shape is similar.

  • i believe that its right what leesetters said about 20 years time, but atleast london skyscrapers will be way newer than skyscrapers in new york etc, itll look okay though when in 20 years more skyscrapers are built round it

  • Lol dont build it too tall ... it will sink into the soft london mud

  • No, in 20 years we'll be wondering what the fuss was all about, and why luddites such as yourself and Prince Charles felt the need to oppose these striking modern icons.

How on earth can you compare this soaring, iconic skyscraper with a graceless 80s lowrise?

In addition to being of exceptional design, this tower will stand in the perfect location. It will compliment the neighbouring towers and form a dramatic new apex for the cluster. Public restaurants at the top will offer stunning views.

  • at 1:56 there is a big building with a triangular floor plan. its blocking out the lower right half of the gherkin, could any1 tell me the name of it?

  • That's the Minerva Tower, long since cancelled.

  • why was it cancelled?

  • Basically because the company didn't have the funds to construct it. The project was too big for them to take on, plus it faced competition from other towers meaning there was an oversupply of office space.

  • "Tour Signal"(brand new architecture,301m),"Hermitage Plaza"(stunning twin towers,323m),"TourD2"(french gherkin?)+ a gorgeous tower inside Paris itself: "Tour Triangle"is a 200 m high pyramid of glass(so thin!) Take C!

  • Paris:"Tour Generali"(318m)","Tour Phare"(around 300m),"Tour D2"(our "french Gherkin"lol,between 160 & 180m),"Tour Carpe Diem","Tour Ava","Tour first","Tour Aire2","Tour Majunga".A MUST SEE as well...I love London/Paris.

  • "Tour Signal","Tour Hermitage Plaza","Tour D2","Tour Triangle"and a lot more to come in Paris by 2012/15...!

  • Vive Londres et Paris!

  • What i love about London is that every building is unique. in other cities, they look so square and all the same. i'm proud of my capital :)

  • wWooww... Im XP3CTING 3XC3LLENCY 2! im proud of London!!!

  • 1:47 PLEAZE!

  • Leadenhall Building, currently under construction, designed by Richard Rogers.

  • whats the really big one called to the left of the gherkin at 1:47?????????

  • The Shard and the Pinnacle will change london forever. London SHOULDNT go krazy with skyscrapers. london is london because of its history, so these buildings need other tall buildings next to them to shine. i hope the right buildings r chosen because london needs a ORIGNAL skyline look.!.! not just taller and taller ones. but a look of history and power!

  • We need much more much taller skyscrapers in my opinion. It just looks cool. At least that way London can be compared with the likes of New York Moscow and Hong Kong

  • See i dont want just skyscraper after skyscraper! EVERY single major city has tall skscrapers! look at dubia etc! i want a skyscraper part to london, canary wharf, city centre and southwark, but i want the rest to be - mid-rise buildings! its a unique look, remember london is one of the only citys - still built on medi-evil roads, cnary whaft isnt - and u can see the diffence in buildings too! its more american - i wouldnt want ALL of london as canary whaft just parts!

  • totally agree

  • 1:32 The tower behind his shoulder is the London Bridge Tower (going too be the tallest building in GBR and in the top 10 in the EU

  • And I can't wait until it's finished! :) The Shard and the Pinnacle will both do great for London, its skyline, its reputation and its status as a globally important city. Plus, they're both beautiful buildings. I'm having trouble deciding which one I like better ... I suppose I don't really have a preference.

  • Yes neither can i but i do like Shard Of Glass but i love the bishopgate

  • Well done.

  • Uni of Life doesn't actually count by the way.

Now go play in the road.

  • Thats the unemployed individual seeping through, doesn't take long to unearth a moron on this site does it. lol

You keep collecting your income support my son. Goodluck, sounds as if youll need it.

  • Full of crap, not ful of crap.

    You have opinions, not facts.

I have wasted enough time communicating with you.

  • We were talking of the city as a whole, living in central London is slightly different isn't it.

And besides, i think you are full of crap.

  • I work in London, vain attempt to be condescending however.

I can tell you the place is a dump, a few nice areas yes, an affluent city i would describe in the UK as Bath - certainly not London, not as a whole.

  • This will be one gorgeous building! It's time for London to show the world just how great it is!

  • This building looks top notch, nice and futuristic, I can't wait to see it when its finished.

  • Hear hear! Could'nt agree more! There are around 40 towers propsed, approved or Under construction in Canary Wharf alone with more popping up from time to time.

  • Totally agree with the comment below. It is about time London joined the 21st Century and stopped living in the past. Can't wait until The Pinnacle, Heron Tower, The Shard, Leadenhall Building are built. The dinosaurs from English Heritage and people like Prince Charles should butt out with their antequated views and comments let London move forward. And for god sake scrap the height restriction for the city and Canary Wharf

  • London Bridge Tower isn't under construction until January. Bishopsgate Tower is about to start. How people can hate new architecture is beyond me, you need to open your eyes, yes London history, what City doesn't!? New York does, and its building many new buildings without fuss. Times Move On! London is a low rise glum looking city. When you think of cities, you think of Skyscrapers, not low rise Victorian buildings which are dull and all the same looking.

  • I agree. I think these new buildings are a great idea. London is evolving, but it will always have its history.

  • I get so pissed off with people saying ''Ooh the history!!

Yes we have to keep some historic buildings, but for fuck sake, we have to embrace the modern world. We can build structures far more superior and wonderful than the Victorians. Canary Wharf has 40 skyscrapers approved, proposed or U/C with many many more all over London, its good news for London & the economy. Bishopsgate Tower will start construction next month. Oh and 1 World Trade Center in NY is under construction and will be 541m.

  • exactly what i think

  • not just london, birmingham, manchester, liverpool and leeds are all building their first skyscrapers since the gloomy lookin ones of the 70's.

  • oh wow!!

  • A fantastic building!

  • i wish this building was in NYC

  • ...if we're gonna be wishing, Milwaukee all the way

  • i dont get it

  • btw all my comments were responces to other comments lol

  • london is a dump, construction is a very bad game to get into unless you are a complete arse hole, i worked in the game for a few years and the only way you can get on is to be a complete arse licker, and orourke is full of them, PAT KEARNEY YOU ARE A CUNT, it turns my stomache to work on a site in london now, the money you can earn just by licking someones arse is amazing, good luck to you all, you obvioudley dont have any shame

  • really cool what you said but does any1 really care? lol

  • londons fit

  • very cool, but the video cant help but shout "bullshit" at me...

  • heres the facts...

    1. London cant build over 310 meters tall because of 5 airports in the area

    2. with a population of 15,000,000+ (2007 approx) and an area of 40 miles squared

So... as a sum up Londons officially 1 of the biggest citys in th world therefore no1 gives a fuk how tall our buildings are- and 300 meters is fucking high

  • kinnane4 (1 month ago) Show Hide +2 Marked as spam Reply | Spam

i know....anyone who says 300meters isnt high............should be made to jump off it...wankers

  • How tall the skyscrapers are doesn't define how good a city is you know.

London is vibrant and beautiful... oh yeah and it makes for money everyday than Tokyo, New York and Paris combined... so just think about that for a second

  • the reason we dont have giant tall towers is mainly because london as loads of historic buildings and views it must protect..london is a beautiful city far better than any others i have visted you guys can build as high as you like because your country has no history

  • wot?

  • whose country has no history?

  • I think london needs a good blend of modern with the old.

  • I love it.

  • The Bishopsgate Tower looks awesome, but this video is really, really dull. The voiceover's making me want to hit the bottle.

  • Gosh, you lot except Will and a few others don't know anything about skyscrapers other than associate it with NYC, Chicacgo is building the Spire which is the second/3rd tallest U/C. Wake up people, the tallest buildings are being built in UAE mostly Dubai, China and Russia, and on quality terms London surely has the best proposals in Europe with Bishopsgate tower and the Shard.

  • The Shard has been given the go ahead, demo works start in the next week!

  • even tho were not in competition with new york.. they still better watch out cuz we're building skyscrapers taller then the bishop's gate tower in London, and yet this tower is tall enough even by ny/chicago standards :P

  • OH, and we cant go any higher than the Shard, as it actually is the maximum height due to London's flight path. So no... we wont even have as large Skyscrapers in London as either NYC, or Dubai

  • who cares? what makes you think that the more higher buildings there are, the better the city? bigger isnt always better you know. thats like advocating quantity over quality.

  • The tallest buildings are tourist attractions and portray affluence.

  • bollocks.

  • Still true.

  • This is bullshit, london ooozes affluence and not in the shape of tall buildings, go to west london, the west end, you will see not just affluence, but the history of affluence.

  • Lodnon aswell as being a hotspot for affluence is also a cesspot for poverty, go to Peckham or Brixton, infact, most of the East Side.

London does not oooze affluence, only in the tourist hotspot - look at the demographics of London and you will see.

  • You could be talking about any major city. For a city to function it needs ppl from every class, working middle upper, even under class. My point is london does ooze affluence especially in west london.

  • lol - Nope, im afriad you are wrong, a city cant be described as ooozing in affluence becuase of a quarter.

Go to Moscow or Dubai, then youll truly witness affluence on a grander scale.

  • Dubai is a gimic of a city and cant really be used as a general standard. I am not doubting moscow is very affluent in a cold war communist kind of way. But the disparity between classes in moscow and london are vast. I am talking about your text book western city.

  • You have obviously never been to Dubai, the place is like stepping foot on another planet.

  • You're kind of making my point. It so far removed from the norm, that is ridiculous to use it as any kind of standard in the context of the conversation we've been having. London is a far riched city on a gdp basis than dubai, which is the same for most other western cities.

  • In that respect Paris is above London.

Look up the darn word affluence, your boring me now.

  • I bet you're from some rural part of england (anywhere but london). You suffer from london envy, paris is tiny compared to london.

  • Paris is tiny? In what respect, GDP or population? As you would be wrong for assuming either.

I'm not envious of London, its a horrid place, full of crime, grime and attitude.

Give me a small country village with values and a local pub to sip my ale on a Friday any day!

  • what part of the UK are you from, because i am doubting it is london.

  • I'm from Sussex but work in London as a quantity surveyor.

  • LOL! this is hilarious! I haven't laughed all day, but the slagging match going on here is just too funny!

  • i have to say that the bishopsgate tower looks better than the sears tower or the future chicago spire

  • I know there is nothing in new york 500 meters high. America is in a competition but not with europe but with asia. I know London is a top financial city in the world. Londoners should be proud of that.

  • London's skyscrapers are no match against New York's skyscrapers or Chicago's skyscrapers. 288 metres is nothing. It should be 500 metres or taller.

  • Please research the facts before posting stuff like this. Firstly, 288 metres IS big, even by New York's standards. Only the Empire State Building has a taller roof height. Secondly, London isn't in some sort of competition with New York, and there are height limits anyway (due to the nearby airport, and historic sites nearby).

  • There is no building in the whole of the US that has 500 meters (Sears: 442 meters; Empire State: 381 meters). Why are americans on Youtube always in a competition? Whenever there's a video about Europe, some yank will write how it's better or bigger in the US. We don't care! So stop trying to prove something to us, just watch the vid or fuck off!!!

  • well said datheman3780, totally agree with you.

  • You don't understand, your statement has no grounds. Within the UK or Europe for that matter good things do not have to be big. For example London is one, if not the top financial city in the World this has not come from merely being big. If anything i think using resources in a clear manner if far better than just building for no reason.

  • theres nothing in new york wots 500 meters high u idiot. if this tower was in new york it wuld be the second biggest there- empire state. y u aleways in compitition? fukin american.

  • edmannumber1. typical new york prat.

  • The reason that monstrosities like the bishops gate tower are built, is because there are no talented architects in the 21st century.

  • so should we all go back building churches and pyramids?

  • Answer me this, did you know of those buildings i mentioned before i mentioned them? The list of beautiful buildings and ugly buildings. If not have you taken a look at them?

Answer me this also, what is there to know about modern architecture?????? Things like, "It's distinctive design captures the essence of X City"???? Things like, "This magnificent structure will delight and surprise"???

  • Indeed I have seen them. And I think they are beautiful buildings. However, I have the capacity to appreciate both fine old architecture and fine modern architecture too. I think both are great. It is excellent that my generation, and the generations that have been, and will come, all get a chance to leave there mark on London.

  • It isn't about the core having concrete, it is about the exterior. It is about building something that will last, building something detailed and intricate.

Do I think I will make you respect my opinion? Why would I care if you respect my opinions? You are a 17-year-old who I will never meet! I just enjoy out-debating you!

  • For the record, I was originally referring to Mike as a cocky little prick because had the nerve to tell me that skyscrapers can't be made out of concrete because they would fall down, he then told me that I don't know what I am talking about. By the way, Mike hasn't left a comment since I did what he asked me to do and named skyscrapers with concrete on the exterior!

  • Get over myself? I know a thing or two about architecture and I am sharing them! Please forgive me for thinking I know more than someone who thinks it's impossible to build a skyscraper out of concrete.

It isn't an obsession, it's a passion, there is a difference.

  • I just realised your 19 Richy. How can you go around saying to people 'you know nothing about modern architecture your only 18!' Like I said before, get over yourself.

  • Oh, and by the way, I'm 17. Again, call me a 'retard' are 'cocky prick' all you like, it's just making you look more and more like an arsehole. It hillarious, do you think by calling me these things I will respect your opinion more. lol.

  • God, what is your sick fetish/obsession with concrete? The Bishopsgate Tower will have a concrete core, and a steel fame. What is wrong with that? You say I know nothing about modern architecture, but you haven't said anything to lead me to believe you know what your talking about when it comes to modern architecture. Just 'urgh too much glass urgh you like it you must be brain washed urgh. Get over yourself mate.
