The most opposition 2 the bill came from Strom Thurmond, a Southern Democratic Senator from South Carolina. Most Southern Democrats switched parties in the 1980's and 1990's, now the south is dominated by Republicans, imagine that!

Things needed to get worse in order to get to the root of the problem. The stimulus tossed money at the problem to brush it over. What we are left with is historic debt. Glenn Beck has done an excellent job of pointing this out.

The truth is that Obama's economists will say its working. Many economists have not taken a stance on how the stimulus is working. The problem with the stimulus is that its only stimulating government jobs. So, when you look at the three vital components for economic growth(GDP): Government spending, private investment/growth, and consumer confidence. All the stimulus is stimulating is the first, making this growth a false positive.
That's why I disagree with far right demagogues like Glenn Beck. The far right doesn't involve anarchy nor the far left full state control. We should pay attention to fundamental values. The far right stresses on the fundamental inequality among human beings (the nazi aryan race), communism pursues total equality (the mass killings of the enemies of the people), and centrist liberalism strives for equality while trying to preserve freedom. This is a neverending struggle for a democracy.

Europe's population is healthier, better educated and their wealth is more evenly distributed. They might be facing severe short term problems but their long term prospects are better than America's. America is undereducated, unhealthy and badly demoralized. I'm not saying we have to become like Europe, but we do have to work with our strengths to overcome our problems. Listen, there is a real difference between short term deficit spending to get us out of a recession and long term spending for entitlement programs. Every major economist will tell you that short term deficit spending is acceptable, but the real problem comes with long term deficit spending for entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare. To Beck's credit, on his show yesterday he did name Social Security and Medicare as two budget busting items.
This no doubt angered some of his older viewers. The truth is that in order to be solvent, entitlement programs will have to be drawn back and taxes will have to be raised (not now when we are in a recession, but this will have to be addressed when we are on better footing). But every major economist will tell you that the Stimulus is necessary and is helping the economy.

The Stimulus is working; every major economist has said so. The Stimulus has helped to keep many state and city workers on the payroll, and it has financed many infrastructure programs. Also, 1/3 of the Stimulus was in the form of tax cuts, something that conservatives love. Things would be much worse without the Stimulus; every major economist says so. Even so, it will realistically take until 2016 until we will be where we were in 2007, and that's if no nasty surprises turn up.

The most opposition 2 the bill came from Strom Thurmond, a Southern Democratic Senator from South Carolina. He eventually switched to Republicans in September of 1964 (the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed on July). Most Southern Democrats switched parties in the 1980's and 1990's, now the south is dominated by Republicans, imagine that!

The truth is that Obama's economists will say its working. Many economists have not taken a stance on how the stimulus is working. The problem with the stimulus is that its only stimulating government jobs. Europe's population is healthier, better educated and their wealth is more evenly distributed. They might be facing severe short term problems but their long term prospects are better than America's. America is undereducated, unhealthy and badly demoralized. I'm not saying we have to become like Europe, but we do have to work with our strengths to overcome our problems. Listen, there is a real difference between short term deficit spending to get us out of a recession and long term spending for entitlement programs. Every major economist will tell you that short term deficit spending is acceptable, but the real problem comes with long term deficit spending for entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare. To Beck's credit, on his show yesterday he did name Social Security and Medicare as two budget busting items.

The Stimulus is working; every major economist has said so. The Stimulus has helped to keep many state and city workers on the payroll, and it has financed many infrastructure programs. Also, 1/3 of the Stimulus was in the form of tax cuts, something that conservatives love. Things would be much worse without the Stimulus; every major economist says so. Even so, it will realistically take until 2016 until we will be where we were in 2007, and that's if no nasty surprises turn up.

I don't know what books you are reading, but I don't JUST read conservative revisionists history. I HAVE read those books and also mainstream history which DISAGREES with your assertion. I also listened to my elders who lived it. I pay attention to the history I have lived. The WPA and CCC saved my family. SS and medicare saved my family. Despite the new conservative history making, FDR saved our nation. That is the reason he was elected served 4 terms.
