I have no idea why they didn't just stick with the 1998 or 2001 versions of the game. The 2001 one looked really great compared to other games of the time. It would have kept the Duke Nukem franchise alive. But after DNF.... I'm not sure if we'll be seeing another Duke game.

I can never thank Randy enough for bringing my Childhood Hero back. (Yes, I know thats messed up, in fact, I'm only 18 right now. Gnarly.) I attended E3 2010 just to see Duke. My god that was probably the best week of my life. Not just because of Duke, but mainly him and MGS Rising (Loosen your lips Kojima -_-) When I played, I knew he was really back. And I knew it was worth the wait. A few weeks back I attended the midnight launch and had my first (And last) Cigar. I've been smiling since.

Low and behold, there was a link to a trailer, so I watched it. That was the first time I ever saw the reveal trailer, many hundreds of times following. I was in awe, dumbstruck, stupified that Gearbox took on this project, until I saw a claim I thought had to be false. Randy's first game was Duke 3D! He saved the project out of respect! A quick trip to wikipedia later I found that it was true! I was at a lack of words for a long time following. I knew the Duke was coming back.

I just still cant believe it. After the silence following 2001, I convinced myself that Duke was dead. When the 2009 trailer came out I thought they were just trying to cash in on royalties or some such nonsense. I shed quite a few tears when 3D realms closed down. Then it happened. I was browsing the web one day and I saw a headline. "Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software is smiling." Being recently graced by Borderlands, I decided "Eh why not, ill read it."

Maybe if we're really lucky we'll get some of those original 2001 levels as DLC. Maybe a whole separate game. How about an option to turn off regenerating health and have health packs instead? Or an no 2 weapon limit? Too bad we don't live in a perfect world.

The weird part is, you can see you didn't have Quick Time Events in the last trailer so they must have added this at Gearbox - someone slap the jerks for that, okay? Plus, combat looked a lot more fun - my main beef with DNF, is that you got too little to shoot, enemies are too tough, and you're really walking 5 feet, shooting two, walking another 5 feet, etc. I miss the real Duke experience! That last trailer still had some of it, where did it go???
