  • Can you come to my house and build them for me? I'm a girl.

  • @mkmason2002 Sorry...but no!! :)

  • Awesome instructions! I realize that not everyone has chickens... BUT, if you do, or have a friend who does... you can put a chicken tractor over or near your garden plot and allow the chickens to scratch up the soil, they remove all greenery and fertilize the soil. When they have everything worked over, you can then move them to another location and begin your final garden prep and planting. Chicken tractors are even being used in cities like Boston! Check out Garden Girl TV for an example

  • Doesn't untreated wood rot after a while?

  • Probably the very best video I've seen on raised beds - and I've looked at a lot of them. Thanks so much.

  • @frelnc Thanks, that's very nice of you!!

  • I like your cardboard technique... gonna have to try that soon since I have huge rocks about 6 inches under my lawn.... (cheap soil)....

  • Great guide, keeps it simple & do-able! Drop by my channel sometime & let me know what you think of some of my projects.

  • I built my raised beds 2 years ago and I love it! I have clay soil so I had to amend it quite a bit. But has been wonderful since! Tomatoes, cantaloupe, beets, peas, asparagus, brocolli, brussel sprouts... so many wonderful veggies!

It really helps to put drip irrigation in as well!

I definitely recommend making raised beds!

    :-)

  • I have always wanted raised beds. This video guide is perfect, thanks.

  • Awesome!!! Thanks!

  • Besides the small amount of leaching, pressure treated lumber has not been made with CCA (arsenic-containing) since December 2003. Now they have the ACQ / AC2 quaternary copper mentioned above by pcharles.

BTW this is a great video, I am planning to build a couple raised beds, hopefully starting tomorrow. Thank you for the great pics and info

  • is plastic (silage wrap) ok to lay on the grass then putting the frame on top

  • Good job with your raised bed video. Vinyl raised beds are now available and work well. The advantages are that vinyl raised bed can be moved to a new location if needed, never needs replaced, never rots or leaches anything into the soil and best of all it is easy to care for, just hose it off!

  • "Jus' keep in mind that a raised bed is merely a box with soil in it, you REALLY can't mess that up!"

  • This was a very informative video!

I finished my raised beds last year, I tried to be a little creative with the design, instead of straight rows. :-)

I posted a video of it. It was a lot of work to dig out the grass, I had Bermuda and its evil stuff..lol

  • great video! I'm planning to build one out back the house. :)

  • Great video! I got some excellent ideas from watching this. :)

  • I will be using redwood.

  • DON'T use landscape timbers or railroad ties! They are toxic and defeat the purpose of having an organic veggie garden.

  • Just wanted to add that CCA Leaching is also pretty much irrelevant since the sale of CCA was banned for home use in most states several years ago. The replacement Copper Quaternary, is perfectly safe according to the EPA.

  • @pcharles67 I'd be willing to bet money that the study that concluded that Copper Quaternary is safe was funded and conducted by either a lumber company or a chemical company LOL!

  • Excellent. Very helpful.

    Thank you

  • Very easy to follow with step-by-step instructions.

    Very Good!
