I remember those days on that same parade deck when i was a recruit in Mike Company over there(Platoon 3102: SDI SSgt Worley DI SSgt Keller, DI SSgt Kernin, DI Sgt Bauhaus). 8 years later I want to go back to 3rd Battalion as not only as a Hat but as a SNCO that's going to mold and shape the future of our Corps. @Davemercd it's DI for the left foot.....during the beginning weeks of bootcamp they will be taught left right left until they master it. little by little the DI will start to add his own flavor to the cadences. which consists of yodels, slurred, barks, grunts,drawn out words & etc. after time the recruit will understand what is being said, eventhough their not hearing english, which word is correct for whatever foot.

I was a hat and I would have to say that this platoon was on point! Almost every recruit was tight as hell, even the "little end". I do believe that a good cadence makes recruits and Marines "puff" their chest and march so much better and that cadence was awesome! Cadence and drill is an art.

@eddy4m3 From what my friend in the USMC tells me basic training with the Aus Army and the marine corps are almost identical in terms of discipline, physical training, weapons ect ect.

The regular army for Australia are trained to a ridiculously high standard, because well...We dont have a marine corps lol...And our government sucks so our army is about 200k strong so in basic training is pretty much hell from day one, as I said..Pretty similar to the USMC, but eh...Still looking forward to it

Negative!!! So motivated at the time, pain was temporary leaving the body. What kicked my @ss was the 18 mile hump in S.O.I. I think I had a tear the last mile. Was put on bed rest for a week for having the "worst case of jungle rot" the doc ever saw. But sucked it up and made the hump. Also I was in the rear so I was running the whole time cuz my legs are short. Freaking captain in the front was 6+ and double time the whole 18. Good times!!!
