I agree that it is widening. Digital technology is a bigger necessity for those who are blind, and if you want to talk about unable to pay for technologies? A good Windows PC + a screen reading package from a commercial vendor? $2,000. Mac Mini w/ VoiceOver? $699. Still a lot of money for a populous who's 70% unemployed. Thus the burden for paying for this falls to the government run state agencies.
@rml695 Sorry, but that large expense just isn't necessary! I am a developer on the NVDA screen reader project myself. NVDA is completely free, and works with more than just MS approved software unlike voiceover. Good PC with Windows for around $400 + Free NVDA = much cheaper than the MAC.
@VideoGuyNC I agree, but try yelling (and I do mean yelling) that to the agencies around here. They are stuck in commercial land. In fact, my GF going to college, they plan to give her Window Eyes. I already asked her about NVDA. She wont touch it, because of the vast differences in controls from SA2Go. The screen reader she is most comfortable with is JAWS.
