The "award" for that probably goes to Joker for his After The Storm remix of Death Egg Zone (S&K). Which is also a great remix, mind you, but drastically different from its source.

These methods are used to further make it more original and (hopefully) better.

I easily recognize the original tune, but immensely enjoy the direction WillRock took with this piece; he kept what was good but made good changes and additions.

That is because there is a difference between a cover and a remix. A lot of people cover video game music but inaccurately refer to their works as "remixes". A remix has to be, as the name implies, mixed in a new way, whether by putting the parts of the tune in a different order and/or repeating or extending parts, by altering the tune at parts to add more variety and complexity, and/or by adding orignally composed music to the rest of the piece.

One of the best, most robust remixes I've ever heard. There is enough variety, but not too much. There's good amount of progressiveness & buildup mingled with a well-executed dramatic effect, blended in perfectly with a certain styling in the music at times that reveals the WillRock's keen sense of subtlety and effective simplicity. Neither too short nor too long. I can't really complain about one thing in this entire track. Excellent work, WillRock! =D

This is a good song and all, but I simply can only hear the " remix" part, I cannot naturally hear the original song, I actually have to listen in such a way I end up seeking the regular song. I find this to be a different tune all on its own. O.o
