  • Wow this one has so many views! I like the giant word at 5.43 :3

  • Would you please write down the name of the game just before Axelay please? Thank you.

  • @thenodfather no worries- its' Jikkyo Parodius' (the 3rd in the series)

  • @cyanidebreathmintz Thank you very much. Great video by the way, some gems in there I didn't know of.

  • I see that some cartridges you have are diffrent shaped... whats up with that?

  • @Mr8bitgamer the rounded ones are either Super Famicom of PAL SNes games. the square shaped ones are U.S games

  • @cyanidebreathmintz ok i live in europe ;)

  • I do fully intend of getting every North American released shoot'em for the Super Nintendo. Its a shame we never got any of Parodius games on North American shores, but I'm happy UN Squadron made your top ten list. I'm surprised Gradius III didn't get there but oh well, I know for a fact aero fighters is going to be one of the hardest North American super nintendo shoot'em ups to get but I absolutely loved playing the arcade version.

  • Good to see you nearly got all the 16 bit shooters mate. Now you have the Saturn, have you had any thoughts on getting a Dreamcast, PC Engine or Neo Geo yet?

  • Second thoughts Star Fox is one that everybody knows of course it wouldn't be included stupid me. :P

  • Oh you did one. Sure you didn't do the separate ones like with the SEGA "that's what I call it as most people have the MS/32X/CD addons for it so it's called the SEGA to me rather than on it's own the Megadrive." but at least it's done, lets watch and find out if my prediction was good though. :P

  • @Pro21xx yeah heard Spriggan is great but never seen a copy for sale and as for R2 it looks amazing but nearly impossible to acquire.

  • Great list! Not played Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius on SNES but I have got the Saturn version and it's a great game! I dunno why I never really got on that well with Gradius, always preferred Salamander and Parodius.

Never even played Macross Scrambled Valkyrie! Sounds amazing.

  • Do you not have Spriggan-Powered?

Surprised that Scrambled Valkyrie isn't on your list too.

I love Axelay and R-Type 3 the most too.

    Sorry mistake!!!

  • Do you not have Spriggan-Powered?

Surprised that Scrambled Valkyrie isn't on your list too.

I love Axelay and R-Type 3 the most too.

  • @MintythecatIsABeast Macross Scrambled IS on the list, it's #1 in fact!

Nah don't have Spriggan and i've never seen a copy for sale.

  • @cyanidebreathmintz sorry Ben, can I blame it on the booze? :p

  • Wayhey, Macross at number one, good man! ;)

Reminds me that I still need to pickup those Parodius titles; utterly nuts but great games. :)

  • cheers bro awesome selection love un squadron & aleste rocks and we all know parodius rules i love cotton just amazing looking & parodius is just at the top of the food chain axelay yesss one of my favorites yess macross just i have to say i agree 100% macross is one of the best shooter i have ever seen & played & i owe it all to you my friend i dd get your box & thanks will do package video tomorrow as i just got home from work never heard of that movie it look awesome huge thumbs up bro

  • Some pretty awesome picks Ben. : )

  • Thing i love about these types of vids by fellow You Tuber's, sometimes, you discover hidden gems. Never played Macross and Cotton 100%, but have seen various gameplays on YT. I can honestly admit, even though i am a huge MD fan, i always found the SFC completely beguiling, due to its amazing colour palette and content back then. Technically, it was a far more superior system imo! But both had there own individual charm and especially within the "shmup" genre...AXELAY...OMG!!! :)

  • Don't have a SNES but I recognise the great shooters there mate.

  • Awesome top 10 there mate, and proof the SNES could do shmups. R-type 3 edges it for me but Valkyrie is such a class act!! As always great hearing your opinions

  • @gmintyfresh Yip, the only thing holding R-Type 3 back is slow-down, but luckily it doesn't mar it too much like other snes shmups. Glad you like the list, i like sharing em, and i like hearing your opinions too mate..thats what its all about eh :)

  • I had Space Megaforce (Super Aleste) and Super R-Type arrive in the post today... got them for a bargain price.

  • @shaurz sweet!.. both great shmups..you'll be busy! you've been getting heaps lately eh.

  • Phalanx - agree

UN Squadron - agree with you on that as well.

Aleste - wow this would be my 1st.... tonight. It is a little too easy. Much like gunnac on the nes though.

    Parodius Da! Yeah.

Sonic Wings - you can wake me up for that game anytime!

Cotton 100% indeed - great game. Weird though. Cute'm up! LOL

    Rtype III is the bomb!

I even got Phalanx on the GBA back in the day.... portbale Phalanx.

shite I don't know them all.... ouch.... need to expand my Snes shmup horizon vastly.

    Great vid Ben

  • @markvergeer ditto mate, great comment! great seeing what you think! There isn't really a whole lot of shmups on the snes and i know you have the majority too, but yeah, grab any of these if you don't have'em already :)

  • That's a very well rounded list, and I totally agree about the top 2 positions.

I've recently played Axelay again and I've yet to get back to Macross - I loved it back in the day.

  • @KollisionBR 'Edward' approved..yessss! ;)

Hmm so Axelay is the latest victim eh. Great stuff, and i can't rave about Macross more..just brilliant!

  • I gotta be honest. I love the shumps on both systems but I have the give the edge to the megadrive personally.

  • @motherplayer Hell yes!.. the MD 'owns' the SNES in the shmup department overall for sure!

  • Great SFC countdown list! I need to get some more!

  • @jillpoo3 there is also a spattering of pal games in here :)

  • Haha. I have never played a shmup on a SNES console. Seems like i will have to change that somewhere down the road. Love these top 10 shmups vids, great to have as reference when picking up a new system. Had to check out some vids of Macross. And dammit, it looks great! It kinda reminds me of Super Dimension Fortress Macross on the Saturn, but alot better.

And i should really pick up some Macross DVDs too...so much stuff to buy. So little time and money.

  • @lostSUND4Y no shit!?.. ohwell, be weary tho coz there are a good whack of snes shooters that are shockers and also suffer from chronic slowdown..even some in the top 10 suffer (R-Type 3 comes to mind). But i'm glad i can show you these ones to steer you in the right direction :)

  • The Phalanx art is classic !! I remember seeing it on import back in the day and thinking "What the hell?!??!"

What were they thinking!?!? Good game though !

  • @mathowlett yeah what a marketing nightmare that turned out to be!

  • Great list bro. Too bad Pop'n Twinbee didn't make your top list. Awesome video nonetheless. Thumbs up!

  • @narox aww..yeah i just said to Serraxor that 'pop'n should probably go infront of Phalanx but things were getting abit sickly sweet with all the cute'em'ups in the line-up ;)

  • You've given me some ideas for future purchases XD Nice list mate!

  • @Otouto72 great that i could help bro! :)

  • Awesome stuff! Having most of the shooters you have there, I can safely say that this list is sound: It's Ser Approved!!

I noticed Pop'n TwinBee in your honorable mentions. I just beat that one last night, almost 1CC ^_^ I love the TwinBee games!!

  • @Serraxor "Ser" approved!..that's enough for me! and a great honour! :)

Pop'n is great and co-op aswell..maybe it should have gone infront of Phalanx but things were getting abit sickly sweet with all the cute'em'ups as it was lol.

  • Nice vid! Good info for us noob Super Famicom guys.

  • @eterniaboy you're not a noob mate, i know you've seeked out those obscure gems like Astro Boy and Flying Hero etc.. :)
