Yesterday a group of people , me included , walked almost the entire Victoria Lines as a challenge walk to raise funds for a four year old girl ,Amber . An entusiastic walk with magnificent views and places to discover .
Great video. Its worth noting that a lot of the buttresses along the "Lines" provide great solid limestone for rock-climbing too. Pity that the wall is crumbling and almost non-existent in many places.
Hi - thank you for this video - it was superb - I have recollections of walking from Selmun Tower to the beach and past Fort Madliena - way back in 1972!!!!! Has it changed much since then I wonder?? And what exactly were the Victoria Lines constructed for? Was it the same reason as Hadrian's Wall between England and Scotland to keep the barbarians out?? Or was it built to safeguard against the elements??? If it was built for defence - who were the English safeguarding from invasion????
zrieqi58 thanks for your comment. The Victoria Lines were planned as a first line of defence in case of enemy invasion from the north of the island. The main threat at the time were the French. I'm sure much of what you remember has changed a lot since 1972 especially the St. Paul's Bay area. Probably not so much along the Bahar ic-Caghaq coast.
Prosit hafna! ghogobni hafna l filmat! hasra li l-forti tal-bingemma illum jinsab f'idejn kumpanija privata u ghalhekk id-dhul ghal sit storiku hu projbit
That's a brilliant one, I've so many lovely memories there, shared the video with someone I loved 12 years ago and gave her a lump in her throat. Thank you
