This car is much better than a Cobalt but GM's inconsistent quality for building small cars has already hurt the Cruze's resale value. Its been rated the lowest of all the small cars after 3 and 5 years in ALG residual value. Its a good effort, but theirs nothing that makes me want to buy this over the competition and that makes it forgettable next to the new Focus, Elantra, and Civic
I hate Honda's and Toyota's and Nissan's mostly cause the Taliban and al-Qaida drive them so they don't support America at all. I will be be happy to own a Cruze I must say the little kid in me really wants a G-8 GT but being retired maybe a 6spM cruze will be fun enough. Stick up for America ,at least if you live their.
oh whatever, most Honda's and Toyota's are built in America and each of those companies has a specific operations for America only. They employee thousands of American employees in each of their factories and headquarters in California. You are only hurting yourself by not shopping at each brand. Im not saying I hate American car manufactures bc they are doing great now (at least GM and Ford is) but im not gonna be forced to stick with them just bc they originally are American.
I love my cruze I've had it since November took it to Florida got up to 41mpg's on my 2LT model handling was great in wind and rain storm coming home in the mountains. Traded my Subaru and all the problems I had with it. I love almost everything including the styling of my CRUZE. I'm a retired over the road driver and I've seen 'em all.
@xoquixxoqafxo I wanted to ask the Chevy rep if this was a new exotic dancer edition of the Cruze. I bet that the material stretches out and sags within 50K miles. I wanted to rave about the Cruze, but I just cannot because there are too many mistakes, especially compared to the Hyundai Elantra, Civic, 2012 Focus or even the Corolla.
bwahahaha nice! you should have done it! As much as I don't prefer the Cruze, I'd rather buy it over a Corolla any day lol But yeah all the other compacts you mentioned except the Corolla makes me forget all about the Chevy.
No...it is not high quality. Only GM product I would risk money on would be a Cadillac CTSV/Corvette/Truck. GM doesn't know how to produce a small quality car that is well built and competes with Japanese models. My suggestion, buy a pre-owned, 2-3 year old Acura/Honda/Toyota for the same price and get proven quality without the stigma of "Government Motors" and ruinuos unions!
Kelsey, this is a very disappointing review of the new Cruze because you got your information wrong! You said the truck has 13 square feet but the trunk actually has 15 cubic square feet, not 13 as you suggested. It has a very large trunk for it's class. It has more than the Ford Focus that has 13.8 cubic square feet. The Cruze also comes with folding rear seats for added room for more cargo.
this guy cant review a car to save his life the seats a tweed its what car makers are bringing back and i didnt know that we bouht cars to live in them there just cars drive it !
I don't know what people were expecting, this is a 17,000 dollar car - something my son would purchase. Granted, its spacious and has excellent mileage on it. It's interior is superior to both the Corolla and the Civic (one of the worst looking cars imo). Would I go for it? I'm not sure Chevy can deliver the quality needed, so I'll wait a few months for this one.
it is okay. I was expecting more with all of the hype about it. I can't believe that they actually claimed that it approaches "lexus quality". that's a little rediculous. GM SAVED Daewoo you ungrateful kimchi sucking idiots. Daewoo was bankrupt, now it's an exporting monster thanks to GM.
As for the comments about the Cruze being a Daewoo, GMDAT designed the exterior and interior. The chassis and suspension was designed by Opel. The engines are global with the North American 1.4L Turbo designed by GMNA.
As for GM quality, at least they stop when you apply the brakes :)
Get your facts straight, dipshit. The Toyota "sticking" gas pedal IS an AMERICAN PRODUCT!!! The company who built it is called CTS, located in Indiana.

Don't even compare this crap to the G8 (Holden SS-V Commodore) man. If I ever have to drive this shit in my life I swear I'll cut my left leg off and beat myself to death with it. Fuck Korean cars~!!! Kia, Daewoo they all suck! GM is fucked in the head. Bring in the Insignia man!!
Does it matter? Most of the "american" products are assembled out of the US and we have "foreign" products assembled in the US and few are calling them out.
It doesn't matter where they are assembled, it depends where the company is headquartered, because thats where all of the money goes. Many of the American cars are assembled in North America, which I'm all for.
A Korean Chaebol easily could have bought out Daewoo. And Koreans weren't going to let a Fuck of a company like GM get. But behind the doors, the South Korean courts and Other forces somehow let GM big for the Assets of Daewoo for a paltry 251million dollars. Daewoo was worth 100 fold of that price..
The Cruze is NOT American. It is sold by GM but Daewoo did most of the work. And Daewoo has to pay GM to engineer their own vehicles. It's because of stupid fucks like you that Gm continue to get away with Fraud and outright thievery of Korean engineering that GM continues to prosper.
In which All of Daewoo's profits will go to GM Preferred Shareholders. And Koreans insanely brainwashed/braindead to commit to work for an American empire that is GM
Hey moron, Daewoo was bankrupt and GM saved them. The only thing Daewoo did for this car was the interior and exterior design, which happens to be the worst part of the car. Opel engineered the chassis.
You should get on your knees and thank GM for saving Daewoo, which was a worthless POS until GM took it over
You see the Daewoo connection because you are a deluded moron.
The transmission is NA developed, Daewoo had nothing to do with the Malibu. The only thing Daewoo has produced for GM are it's worst products-the Aveo, Barina, Suzuki Forenza and Reno, etc. All suck. GM for some reason let GMDAT design the Cruze even though GMNA designers are far superior.
This car is completely developed in Korea by Daewoo..
It's designed by Daewoo as GM claims but contrary to GM's claim that it's engineered in Germany, it's actually engineered in Korea too... Daewoo modified the Opel developed Delta I platform for the use in the Lacetti Premier back in 2008 and GM took this so called Global platform back to Germany, called it the Delta II and started using in other GM cars.. this car is Daewoo through and through... Sorry~
They got Daewoo for practically nothing.... if they didn't have Daewoo, and its small car manufacturing specialization, GM would not be making the kind of recovery as they do now...
Because of GM's confidence in Daewoo, they were able to sell off the likes of Subaru and Suzuki, and close NUMMI, generating much needed capital...
no Opel or Holden cars can ever make this much impact in the US... case in point, Saturn Astra and Pontiac G8... where are these cars now?
The Cruze is not an American car. It is made and designed in South Korea. In which Daewoo pays GM to design their own vehicles. talk about a complete Scam.
I wouldn`t say that at all. The Cruze is based on the GM Delta II platform and was not designed solely by Daewoo but by all the GM divisions together. This is not another Aveo which is based on Dawoo`s own T200 platform. Additionally, here in the United States, the Cruze will be manufactured in Lordstown Ohio not in Korea.
i live in the town (lordstown, ohio) where they build the cobalt and are about to start building the cruze too.. they are going to be building all three, cobalt, g5, and cruze at the plant here in my town.. i think people should support american manufacturing and try to buy more american products, especially the things made here at home.

the car is nice. the reviewer is a jerk, though. I wonder if he's ever even left the USA. In Europe, this car will become more popular than the VW Golf, Peugeot, Opel (it IS an Opel frame and drive chain, I think)... cars that offer no better quality but cost ~ $8000 more. It's a car for all age groups - or, better put, for people who want quality at a decent price and could give a shit about market classing. I test drive mine tomorrow. And, who cares what a Pontiac looks like? aRRg.
Toyota's...with all that so called "futuristic" styling, aren't really appealing to me. They look like insects with those weird grilles. Nissan needs some redesign too, take some cues from American cars. Gotta compliment Honda on the Accord though, its got class. GM does not fail on designing, take your bias in favor of Japanese products elsewhere.
GM fails because they have absolutely no taste in car designing, they hire designers from Italy or Germany if they want to succeed. American car companies just don't get it!!
My comment never mentioned cheap japanese cars,I mentioned Euro cars for designs, but then again we'll see maybe new electric cars might be better, so GM has a few more years to generate money or dive into the history books
GM Raped Daewoo. Either on purpose or with Kim's help to get a hold of Daewoo's billions of dollars of Assets as well as Korean engineering expertise. Since obviously GM could design the Vega, Impala, and the Malibu so well in the 90's and early 2000's. Please, save it.
Nice looking car GM. I might get one. People may be very surprised to find out that all car manufactures use alot of the same suppliers. That goes for Honda and Toyota, too. GM is doing what every car manufacture will be doing soon and that is to lower costs. Cars are becoming commodities around the world. Look for cars to come from India and China in the next 15 years. Car companies will become what Nike is: just a marketing company.
@ ktolwal. Ha ha he is. He's a nerdfighter type faggot. I'm sure he like Harry Potter too. He reminds me of the annoying vlogbrothers here on youtube.
Daewoo definately got its ass throttled by the big shlong of General Motors. The same company, along with IG Farbin, Ford, that powered Hitlers War Machine. So that Hitler can rampage Europe and start is neat little Eugenics Experiment in Aushwitz. Yeah.. .That good ol people killing Corporate conduit of a company called General Motors.
Even General Motors sounds fucking evil... God damn it.
And Kim Woo CHOONG was the key to do so. That fucker knew what he was doing. He was capitulating the the GM Shareholder and board of Directors. that Fucker, wrecked Daewoo Motors. GM, should be bankrupt, but now Daewoo will be their good little slave. So, Fuck GM, and get an education you ingorant koolaid GM zomibe
So this is what Barry's Bailout bought us: more proof that GM can't build small cars. This is a Daewoo.
They've done this for years, starting with the "LUV" truck (Toyota), the Nova in the 80s/90s (Toyota), the Le Mans in the 80s (Daewoo), the Metro (Suzuki), and now the Cruze.
Oh, Chevy tried to build its own small cars, sure: The Vega (HA), the Chevette (fell apart).
I'm glad I caught onto GM's failed game early. I wouldn't own a GM product if you paid me. I hate companies that lie, don't you?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Actually, I'd say your the ignorant one. Your statement would make it seem that you think you know everything about GM. You judge, but you're not the one that controls an international company. It's calling 'using resources'. They own Daewoo, and if they make a product that's quality, why not bring it here?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
My statement in no way makes it seem as if I know everything about GM. In fact, my statement isn't about GM or car companies at all, its about your unfair statement that people hate Americans because you've encountered an arrogant American on an internet message board.
I can't tell you how many arrogant Italians and Spaniards I've come across.
Now do I think Italian, French, and Spanish people are all arrogant? No. Do I hate them for it? No.
I'm with you. GM is a company that basically stole of Daewoo's billion dollars assets for mere pennies. They then use Daewoo to make products for its cars, charge Daewoo a fee for doing so. And in the end, all profits go to the Warren Michigan headquarters so that the board of directors can fly their private jets with money earned from the Hard sweat of Daewoo engineers. This exaclty what is happening to Daewoo as of 2009. however, hopefully Daewoo will become independent one day.
most cars sold in the US are either compact (small) or mid-size. a good compact should be making roughly 30 miles per gallon, while a good mid-size car should get only 2 or 3 mpg's less. inline-four engines are very common in compact and mid-size cars (full-size cars, trucks, SUVs, and sports cars normally have more cylinders).
Finally! a car that isn't a POS from GM. Only concern i have though is the motor. With turbo it might reduce the lifespan and cause it to go out sooner than most other engines.
No locking glove box. I wouldn't buy it based on that alone. How much could it possibly cost to add one? I understand that $10 is a lot of money when you are making a million cars but it just screams CHEAP not to have a locking glove box.
If someone is breaking into your car i imagine they could just as easily get in the glovebox... I'd be more worried about my window being smashed or my door torn open then losing whatever random BS i have in my glovebox.
This review is kinda outdated. The seats fold down 60/40 in mine.

Daewoo was worth 100 fold of that price..
keithg1 2 years ago
Daewoo was worth a bucket of Kimchi.

Actually most of the design, the interior materials, the transmission is all heavily influenced from Daewoo.
I mean the Cobalt and Malibu's were complete garbage only a few years ago.
Yet, the Malibu,
1. Improved Material goods. Though to be an impossible goods. How?
2. Chassis looks extremely competitive.
Where the hell did GM get the engineering for acquiring the Robotics and the Steel quality to achieve that>
I see the Daewoo connection for sure.
joaharu 2 years ago 2
You see the Daewoo connection because you are a deluded moron.
The transmission is NA developed, Daewoo had nothing to do with the Malibu. The only thing Daewoo has produced for GM are it's worst products-the Aveo, Barina, Suzuki Forenza and Reno, etc. All suck. GM for some reason let GMDAT design the Cruze even though GMNA designers are far superior.

@untalt
Wrong
This car is completely developed in Korea by Daewoo..
It's designed by Daewoo as GM claims but contrary to GM's claim that it's engineered in Germany, it's actually engineered in Korea too... Daewoo modified the Opel developed Delta I platform for the use in the Lacetti Premier back in 2008 and GM took this so called Global platform back to Germany, called it the Delta II and started using in other GM cars.. this car is Daewoo through and through... Sorry~
valkyrieXX 1 year ago
@untalt
They got Daewoo for practically nothing.... if they didn't have Daewoo, and its small car manufacturing specialization, GM would not be making the kind of recovery as they do now...
Because of GM's confidence in Daewoo, they were able to sell off the likes of Subaru and Suzuki, and close NUMMI, generating much needed capital...
no Opel or Holden cars can ever make this much impact in the US... case in point, Saturn Astra and Pontiac G8... where are these cars now?
valkyrieXX 1 year ago
The Cruze is not an American car. It is made and designed in South Korea. In which Daewoo pays GM to design their own vehicles. talk about a complete Scam.
LoneGunman2000 2 years ago 2
I wouldn`t say that at all. The Cruze is based on the GM Delta II platform and was not designed solely by Daewoo but by all the GM divisions together. This is not another Aveo which is based on Dawoo`s own T200 platform. Additionally, here in the United States, the Cruze will be manufactured in Lordstown Ohio not in Korea.
I believe you are mistaken.

the car is nice. the reviewer is a jerk, though. And, who cares what a Pontiac looks like? aRRg.

Nissan needs some redesign too, take some cues from American cars. Gotta compliment Honda on the Accord though, its got class. You don't get it Jasong,
GM Raped Daewoo. Either on purpose or with Kim's help to get a hold of Daewoo's billions of dollars of Assets as well as Korean engineering expertise. Since obviously GM could design the Vega, Impala, and the Malibu so well in the 90's and early 2000's. Please, save it.
joaharu 2 years ago 3
Nice looking car GM. I might get one. People may be very surprised to find out that all car manufactures use alot of the same suppliers. That goes for Honda and Toyota, too. GM is doing what every car manufacture will be doing soon and that is to lower costs. Cars are becoming commodities around the world. Look for cars to come from India and China in the next 15 years. Car companies will become what Nike is: just a marketing company.

Actually, I'd say your the ignorant one. Your statement would make it seem that you think you know everything about GM. You judge, but you're not the one that controls an international company. It's calling 'using resources'. They own Daewoo, and if they make a product that's quality, why not bring it here?

My statement in no way makes it seem as if I know everything about GM. In fact, my statement isn't about GM or car companies at all, its about your unfair statement that people hate Americans because you've encountered an arrogant American on an internet message board.
I can't tell you how many arrogant Italians and Spaniards I've come across.
Now do I think Italian, French, and Spanish people are all arrogant? No. Do I hate them for it? No.

Birreh:
I'm with you. GM is a company that basically stole of Daewoo's billion dollars assets for mere pennies. They then use Daewoo to make products for its cars, charge Daewoo a fee for doing so. And in the end, all profits go to the Warren Michigan headquarters so that the board of directors can fly their private jets with money earned from the Hard sweat of Daewoo engineers. This exaclty what is happening to Daewoo as of 2009. however, hopefully Daewoo will become independent one day.

If GM took the long view they would have invested in quality small cars instead of importing terrible Daewoo cars.

I've got a question. what's a normal fuel consumption in the US? is a four cilinder normal in a car?
ViezeFries 2 years ago
average american who owns a car drives about 30 miles a day (or roughly 1000 miles a month), ya four cylinder is normal.
Efilrofxes 2 years ago
most cars sold in the US are either compact (small) or mid-size. a good compact should be making roughly 30 miles per gallon, while a good mid-size car should get only 2 or 3 mpg's less. inline-four engines are very common in compact and mid-size cars (full-size cars, trucks, SUVs, and sports cars normally have more cylinders).

No locking glove box. I wouldn't buy it based on that alone. How much could it possibly cost to add one? I understand that $10 is a lot of money when you are making a million cars but it just screams CHEAP not to have a locking glove box.
vaguy78 2 years ago
Some would say the same about an ash tray. I've never locked a glove box in my life and wouldn't pay $10 to add a lock to one.
Cars, especially economy cars are built to a price point. What would you give up in exchange for a locking glove box?
Muddyrider08 2 years ago
If someone is breaking into your car i imagine they could just as easily get in the glovebox... I'd be more worried about my window being smashed or my door torn open then losing whatever random BS i have in my glovebox.
