  • Oh, how I would have loved to have been at Caribou Ranch during its heyday! You can tell the guys in Chicago were truly having fun here - & it shows in their playing! Someone should buy the property, turn it back into a recording studio & make REAL music again!

    R.I.P., Terry Kath...1/31/1946-1/23/1978. You'll always be remembered.

R.I.P., Caribou Ranch. You, Chicago, Elton John & The Beach Boys all made beautiful music together.

  • I remember watching this. Thanks for posting.

  • I remember watching this. Thanks for posting.

  • Who could dislike this?

  • whats great is i saw the barn that they are playing in front of today... and my uncle is standing in the backround guarding a door... wanna know why? cause he was guarding all the coke for the bands up stairs :)

  • I was a young teenager at the time this was shot. My God how times have changed. I'm almost scared watching this knowing how long ago that was and that I actually lived it.

  • Caribou Ranch outside Boulder, Colorado at the peak of its success.

  • @SjTSail i was there today my man!!

  • 4 people in this world have working ears and yet are are totally deaf.

  • I'm totally f***in' speechless! AWESOME!

    Where did these days go?

I'm in my mid 30's and I was just plain born too late. :(

  • Reverend Al Green was diggin' it too!

  • I know where i would go if i had a time machine

  • Thanks for posting this trip down memory lane. I remember watching this "Chicago in the Rockies" TV show as a teen in 1974 and then seeing them live in nj for the first and only time. Was I the only girl to have a crush on Terry Kath?

  • @southpaw115 ....I've had a crush on Terry for 38 years...you have excellent taste in men! ...TERRY ROCKS!!

  • @terrykaren HAHA Karen :) yes, you hold the record for longest crush on TK! Such a manly man :)

  • unbeliveable Chicago is not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame

  • God I wish we were in 70's. This looks like so much fun. And Terry Kath was alive!

  • Why isn't this on DVD... I was only 2 when this happened....

  • Yes, that was Al Green at 5:02, and Al Green and I think this is a great song and band.

  • brilliant

  • Is that Robert Lamm at keyboard?

  • @Mickey4015 Answered my own question, seconds after posting this.

  • you couldn't be hotter than chicago, doobie bros, and elton john in the early 70s...and that looks like al green.

  • WOWWW

  • whole lotta cutie pies dancing in the audience

  • @joemoe23 Everyone was beautiful in the 70's !

  • at first i thought this was a lip sync but now think it's just a very good audio mix, haha.

    wonder where this was filmed?

  • @ab9957 I think it was Nederland, Colorado. The old Caribou ranch. Chicago recorded a lot of albums there.

  • the more i watch this video the more i wish this time stood still.... i love this track and an amazing video!!! contemporary till the end!!!

  • love this video please don't remove it. Terry Kath is a national treasure. I want to enjoy him and this is the only way since he's dead. This is when Chicago was totally awsome. or maybe it seems that way because back then things were so great. The music is awsome though

  • I remember watching this when it was on originally...I LOVE IT!!!! Thank you!!!

  • Love it! Thanks

  • Music just doesn't get any better than this....By the way, is that singer Al Green jumping up and down in the crowd at the end of the video ???

  • What a great video. Everyone was so genuinely happy and having fun. If I had one wish, it would be to freeze time and the original Chicago would still be playing today. Kath, Lamm, Cetera, Seraphine, Parazaider, Pankow, Loughnane. Long live Chicago!

  • sweet azz cool!!

    thanks 4 posting!

  • Man, that's really something to see Terry coming up to the camera like that, I miss that guy!

  • magic Time an Magic space

    ahh the 70's

joint out an feelin mellow... love this

  • Walt Parazaider is wearing the LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS t-shirt (From the L.A.C.H. group poster)

  • @nudist0885 Haha! I thought that was what it said on his T-shirt... seems I saw that on a poster or something long ago. So cool!!!!!!!!

  • Lucky enough to have seen the group a few times in their moments commercial succes,my favorite concert was a benefit for Linclon Park Zoo here in Chicago. The show was called " Satuarday in the Park with Chicago"I walked up to the stagefront in awe of Terry and the rest of my homeboys!!!!!!!

  • Where's John Denver?

  • wow, what memories. I loved this song so much when I was a kid, the part about the man selling ice cream is what made me happy!

  • terry meeking freaking kath. still remember the day he passed. what a lost. but the industhy was changing anyway. dont blame hip hop. by early 80's it became about chessey images and non musicians were running the industry. it always was about a hit records not a musical artistic group like chicago anymore. by the end mid 80's, mtv, the madonna,s, abduls, durans, etc were the beginning of the end for the industry. todays industry is a joke. please enjoy the clip

  • You got that right. I think the music execs got pissed losing all the money from free downloading so they have created crap now to get back at us.

  • The horns sound soo awesome!

  • I always loved Robert's vocals. This was fantastic, got anymore of the same show? We would love to see them.

  • thats terry kath 0:14-0:18

  • is that john bonham from 0:14-0:18 ??????

  • Back-to-back gold!! They were SO great - their vocals, musicianship and arrangements are peerless in the rock world. ** big sigh ** Somebody please put me in the Way Back Machine and set it to Caribou Ranch 1973........

  • This is great. Thanks for shareing.

  • 05:05 thats Al Green

  • Only trumpet solo different and remixed, but otherwise this version is same as final album take. Only Cetera & Company vocals omitted at end . TERRiFFiC PAIR of CHICAGO SONGS!!!, RARE FIND!!!

  • NO it is not!

As is clearly visible, this is a live performance on the porch at Caribou. There were some sweetening overdubs (horns and backup vocals) but this is nothing like the studio version.

  • beautiful music!!

  • is that danny at 1:19 ? He has got to make that catch !!! Not a better band in the day, nor has there been. These guys were great.

  • He not only dated her, he was married to her for several years.

  • @hariseldon59 he & Julie had a daughter, Sacha in mid 70s so she's now a woman in her mid-30s

  • Ahhhhh... The good old days!

    :o)

  • You can see what I saw on the rocky mountain new website. I also saw a clip at KBDI public TV.

I can't even begin to tell you what this meant to me. Thanks Dad. You still rock!

    Love and Peace all!

  • Vintage Chicago....man I'd love to go back to thoes days, for me this period was the most strongest for Chicago, best line up and most creative, love the horns.

  • Great song!!

  • ya what happened to these guys in the late 70's and 80's their music turned to crap when they started writing love ballads

  • When Terry Kath died, they kind of lost their so-called "edge".

  • Classic Chicago! And look at all the beards on the band!

  • best rock n roll band for 7 years,69 -76...until if you lead me now started them as pusssys

  • Bongs out!!!Great times 70's----Look how natural everyone looked back then-- this is over 35 years old now--1974

    damn!!!

    No Hip Hop/rap--different world!! Completely

  • ya I know

  • This was filmed at Caribou Ranch in Nederland, Colorado where Jim Guercio produced all their songs in the 70"s

  • Looks like a very cool time.

  • Joints an so mellow-- ahhhh feel the fresh air!

  • awesome... nuff said.... :)

  • Was it in the "Rancho Caribbe" in Colorado?

  • Good times 70's----Look how natural everyone looked back then-- this is over 35 years old now--1974

    damn!!!

    No Hip Hop/rap--different world!! Completely!

  • whats the hot guys name the one thats singing

  • Robert Lamm.....

  • look at Terry's eyes at 3:42 lol.

  • I loved Chicago in the Terry Kath days.. their music was such an inspiration to be happy and love life. Peter Cetera is a wonderful vocalist.. but, loved him during the early years.. all those 'Cetera ballads'... eeeeeeek! Love the bass he's playing in the video.. 1972 Gibson EB-3.. hollow headstock, machine heads pointing to the real and light as a feather.. unlike all the other EB-3's.

  • That does appear to be Cetera throwing 'lefty'. Strange. Some people are ambidextrous. Nice two song set in the Rockies! Thank you kindly, parkwaymania.

Proud Fan of Chicago 1969 thru 1984.

    The 'Cetera' Era.

  • Isn't that Cetera throwing the football at 1:15? He appears to be throwing with his left hand- is he left handed but still plays bass like a righty, or what?

  • lol how did you notice that?

  • this is beyond good. Chicago back in the day, in their prime, this is priceless. Great post!

  • robert lamm is sooooooo hot & sexy! i luv his voice in this song & that hair! sexy man!

  • I totally agree. He was a hot one! I am so glad that guys are starting to grow their hair out again!

  • This song makes me want Bar B Q

  • Greatest rock band ever!

  • Walt's looks kinda hunky with a moustache.

  • great musicians, great music - best band ever

  • I wouldn't go that far.

  • And why?

The band on its fist albums with Terry Kath was so creative. Experimental instrumental parts and great vocals. In my opinion there's no better rock band.

    best wishes from munich

  • I found pics of Karen Lamm on a site with Dennis Wilson... do a search for two lane blacktop and also go to Dennis Wilson forever and there are more pics. She had very light blonde hair. The only reason I thought the girl in the psa video was Julie Nini is b/c of the other comments...

  • Comment removed

  • OMG---are you sure??? I read somewhere that he met her backstage when she was 15, I have no idea where I found it... That's disturbing. There's a PSA of Robert Lamm and Julie Nini on youtube and she looks VERY young. I think I found a current pic of Julie Nini by putting in her name and Aspen (which is where she lives)---I found 2 pics of her at a party in '05 and she looks late 40's, early 50's.... where was her mamma??!!

  • Comment removed

  • wow, I am a little disturbed!! Things were a little different back then, I guess. I read that a Julie Nini dated race car driver, Danny Sullivan for 14 years---I assume it was the same person. The PSA I mentioned earlier was in 1972 and she looks young but not 12... Oh well, they are not young anymore!!!

  • That's totally false and I can prove it. According to Texas public records, Julie Nini was born in 1952 & wasn't underage when they were dating. Comparing the 25or6to4 video, this is definitely Julie Nini. Go to AncestryDotCom, sign up for the free trial & search for yourself. You'll find her & her sister, same parents, birthdates are 1952 for her & 1950 for Diane (who married Peter Cetera). Please post your apology for spreading urban legends.

  • You don't have to apologize for something that someone else wrote on the net, as long as you didn't make it up, that's cool with me. Not everyone does a full background check on ancestry dot com before they leave a comment. Look at all the bull shit we hear on the news every day.

  • Comment removed

  • BAMAMARV,terrykaren sure as hell does not have to apologize to you,or anyone else for that matter.Who the hell do you think you are the internet police? Why don't you tell the people who she obtained the info to apologize.BTW terrykaren apologized but you did not have the moxy to reply to that.

  • I was cleaning my room when this came on the radio for the first time for me.

  • I have ALWAYS been a huge Chicago fan but never really knew alot about each individual member... what amazing talent. I'd love to be there with them and Robert Lamm is very HUNKY in this video

  • i loveeeeeeeeeeee chicago and this song so much

  • Oh yes we do! The guy was amazing.

  • i think some poeople are to young to know this but they quit playing there hits live in concert about this time and only started playing there new stuff and people really let them know about it

  • Hey! I think that really was Al Green!

  • That was such a great performance...even "Al Green" was rocking out !!! :)

  • He is SO cute when he shakes his hair!

  • That's for sure!!

  • Does anybody really now what time is it Thanks,

  • go hippies!!!=-) jk no offense anyone

  • Torpe!!!

  • I don't know how you got this on the computer but I am so glad you did, it is so cool! I love it!! Thanks! =)

  • A wonderful clip - thanks for posting it - what other songs did chicago do on this concert?

  • Notice Danny toss a stick at 1:35 and not miss a beat.

  • I remember when this came on TV. beforehand I instructed everyone in the house to keep their pie holes shut since I was recording it on my little Realistic tape recorder.

  • That voice. I could listen to it all day. Now give me a burger, some fries and a Coke, please. Here's $2.00.

  • he was cute but now hes not lol

  • Man, that is great, thx for posting!

  • How funny! "A man playing ice cream"? Someone forgot which verse they were on!

  • i can see danny never played football

  • agreed. not a perfect throw, but a catchable ball.

  • Kool , Al Green in the Crowd.

  • These guys were so great, there'll never be another one like them. This is one of my favorite songs. Their songs, voices and musicianship were all so unique and great.

  • Chicago was so great in those days...before Peter Cetera lead them in such a shmaltzy direction in the 80s

  • Peter Cetera didn't lead the band anywhere, the jazzy style they had was outdated and they had to change to survive. Thanks to Peter and David Foster the band was reborn in 1982

  • Reborn as what? A cheesy 80's pop band that was going to forever taint its great legacy. They should've stuck to their roots. They LOST a huge fan base by becoming what they became.

  • You are missing one thing, music is a bussiness, these people live thanks to what they sell and not thanks to old fans. You may like it or not, but that's a fact. Anyway, even with Terry Kath in the band their 70's gretest hit was "If You Leave Me Now", a solo Cetera project.

  • I see your point, still their music was not "outdated". In the MTV world it may have been, but there were still lots of people who listened to and appreciated it.

  • Don't misunderstand me, i like their jazzy style and i can tell betwenn quality music and garbage. The truth is that thos fans were evidently fewer and fewer, remember Chicago 13 and 14, they failed to sell and still belonged to the "old style". The 80's were full of garbage, but I still think Chicago made a good job with their albums. My first kiss was with "Hard to say I'm sorry"

  • Robert Lamm was hot back then!

  • Wow..I recall this totally we lived near Pikes peak.. an I thought these wee my moms friends.. they were all "Rocky mountain high" toke it.. PeterCetera

  • Trivia: the woman with Robert Lamm is his second wife - Julie or Diane Nini. Not sure which of the sisters he married, but Cetera married the other. Lamm and Cetera's daughters are cousins. Not sure what happened to the Nini sisters.

  • Willard: Peter is married to Diane Nini, with whom he co-wrote "Glory of Love". So, Bobby's wife must be Julie.

  • Thanks Welchsa

  • They're such an underappreciated treasure.
