@mktriton the set was made to "match" the films set. That set from the old MGM lot is long gone. The face was done with CGI the dancers wore green masks. The used three dancers to make this film though it was mostly in David Elsewheres stye except for the hand spins and flips. VW did another commercial like this one recently using the moses supposes dance from The Gene Kelly Show when he and Donnald O'Connor sat down and did some taps

This ad is definitely not edited from the movie "Singing in the rain" itself - as the background is not the same: he's giving his umbrella to a guy at the beginning [as it would disturb him in waving his hands], note [and compare to original] at 00:08 the figures and clothes in the windows of the shop, also 00:25 there's no pot with plant in front of the door he's passing by... and a plenty of other changes they made simply to make it only slightly different from the original movie q;)
