He beat federer twice in two weeks. Federer had a 41 match streak, only 5 to the record and Cañas stopped him in the first round ( second time since Federer was top 1 that he lost in first round ).

And in the next week he won again against federer...When Federer was in his top form. Almost nobody could beat Federer, and Cañas did it twice in two weeks.

Sure, Cañas wasn't the best player in the world...But he is in the history of tennis and in the hearth of Argentina.

Canas was suspended 2 years for testing positive for a type of steroid, but it was a couple of years ago.
