I would not suggest getting a diamond stone. Mine keeps getting clogged to shit in all the pockets after not nearly quarter of an hour of work. I made my own knives as as soon as I get them off the grinder I get them on the strop.
If they get blunt a little later down the line I pull out my water stone, not an oil stone, and give them 30 minuets love on that after another strop. My blades can shave the hair on your leg after 20 - 40 mins work. And them assuming you've got a battered edge.
The Lansky sucks dude! It will eat your finish off with its metal parts. use the DMT diamond system, works 100 faster and better! Plus it lasts forever!
Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge and to make these videos. I learned a great deal and will definitely be taking better care of my knives and scissors. Many thanks for sharing!
@artistsComplex I bought one you drag your knife through also. The way I figure it, thats gonna be the knife you use to do manual labor, cutting rope or stuff like that.
Also thanks for the video, Expert Village. I'm glad to see you have an Expert doing your talking now. xD

A lansky type system is available at walmart. The true lansky is available at most sporting goods stores and on line. The edgepro mentioned above is the Cadillac version of the lansky. The lansky uses whetstones. They are just small and fit the angle guide thing. A course stone and the Spyderco Sharpmaker, or a coarse and fine grit stone will work great, but stones take some practice.
Hmmm you missed all the decent systems. Like the EdgePro Apex for reprofiling a blade that has been set up incorrectly. great for working with really hard steel. Or the SpyderCo Sharpmaker which is great for day to day maintenance.

So do you have to use each equipment in that order or can you just use one type then finish with the leather?
