The interesting thing is not only being expert in almost every bass technique and/or trick thought of or known to exist - he does it with such "economy of motion" - that his hands barely move - and it seems like "magic" - because it doesn't seem humanly possible that so many notes/sounds can be produced with such little effort.

The only "trick/technique" I have never seen him use is the 3 finger technique of the right hand - which Billy Sheehan and Steve Harris have made a "trademark/niche" .

Awesome. I break strings all the time, and I usually keep going, but it's hard. It also doesn't help that it's always the A string, so there's this huge gap in between the D and E.

Also, that stuff he's playing at the beginning... there's got to be some trick to that left hand part. Ridiculously awesome.

Yeah, amazing--with all due respects to Bela, Future, Paul, Edgar, and other sit-in Flecks, Vic is continually amazing. I gave up the bass guitar for awhile after hearing his easiest stuff; so clean, accurate, sensitive to the needs of the music and his partners, beyond 'expert', and happy to share. It is a joy to see the higher plane he enters soon into his solos--the mere loss of a G string doesn't budge him off it. Exhilarating.
