  • sarma is TURKISH

    BAKLAVA IS TURKISH !!

  • Nice video...!!

  • Sarma is a dish of grape, cabbage or chard leaves rolled around a filling usually based on minced meat. It is found in the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire as well as those of Central Europe and Central Asia.

Sarma means 'a wrapped thing' in Turkish, from the verb sarmak 'to wrap' or 'to roll Sarma may also be called yaprak dolması 'filled leaf' or simply dolma 'stuffed thing'. Dolma, which properly refers to stuffed vegetables, is often conflated with sarma.

  • not bad, but this is light spring variant..

for best sarma in world, you must go to serbia. people there still have tradition of pickling cabbage during winter. good pickled cabbage is base of good sarma. also you must have some smoked ribs, or other smoked meat, to put with sarma during cooking. and sarma must be greasy. good sarma need lot of pork grease and lot of cooking. more you cook it it is better, and sarma became like butter.

  • Nice video.

Sarma od lišća vinove loze is one of my favourite Serbian meals. But I haven't eaten it in many years because I don't know anyone who makes it the way that I am used to. I grew up eating it but my family didn't make it with any tomato paste.

I suppose every region has there own distinct take on this recipe.

I know other nationalities such as Greeks and Lebanese also make their versions of this dish but it just doesn't taste the same.

  • I love thosee my mom is making one right now

  • Aww ur mama im3adla :P Iike it

  • Sarma is made out of meat and rice filling and is wrapped in cabbage leaves, not grape. :S

  • uxxxx :))))

  • My Mom makes this for me, (love her) and we're Moroccan;) We have cultured friends though..LOL/jk..Thanks so much for posting this:) And yes we also make it with cabbage as well as the w'rat a'nab style. or diwali' as some call it!!:) We all love it!!

  • This is delicious Turkish food! jummie :)

  • @M4nyakYakisikli

So according to you, Armenians did not make Sarma until the ottoman empire came to existence in 1299 .??? or Turkey in 1923 ? Armenians have been around for 3500 years...I'm pretttttttty sure they managed to roll Sarma before Turks came into the picture. I suppose coffee was not introduced until 1299 either. Let's be realistic here..

  • thats some small sarma...btw it sux when its rolled in grape leaves......cabagge is 100X better

  • I love sarma. I make a Croatian sarma with veal, beef, pork, rice, onion, celery, little garlic. I wrap my meat in cabbage leaves and cook them in the oven with V8 juice and sauerkraut. They are the bomb

  • @botshire3 Its not Croatian, its Serbian national food

  • @Nexxonja not its not you moron. Croatians eat this and you for breakfast

  • thats fucking delicious i swear my fav food

  • @runescapesex

WHY do you use such coarse language? Maybe some nice young girl wants to watch this to learn, and she has to see words like that? What is wrong with you?

This is a nice Armenian Mayrig showing how to make sarma.

ALL the other names are also correct.

EVERY country and people make these stuffed leaves and vegetables. They are older than world history. Why do people have to argue about everything? Stop it please, and be nice to each other. Shnorhagaloutuin, Mayrig - Abrees!

  • Great....I just ate some. In Romania are colled "sarmale"

  • we call it Dolma in my country, and i LOVE IT! i wish my mom was here lol

  • dolma is a different food..dolmas arent with leaves, they are with some kind of pumpkin..

  • what are you talking about? as you see in this video. its with grape leaves. and that's how dolma is made. maybe some countries or places have different kinds. but this is what we call Dolma in Azerbaijan. there are also stuffed tomato, eggplant and bellpepper which is another kind of dolma, which is my favorite.

never heard of pumpkin being used for dolma though..

  • srry i meant eggplant not pumpkin..

  • dued ive never had any can you tell me where i could get some at like what resturant what tipe of resturant and maybe a specific name TY

  • Depending on where you are, you can go to either Armenian or Greek restaurants.

  • im greek... my mom always make stuffed grape leaves with rice, onion, some lemon, spices and sometimes meat. i love them, we pick fresh grape leaves from our area. not leaves from jars, from jars they are way worse.

  • cabbage is used too, it is called "lahana sarmasi"

  • How does she prepare the grape leaves? I have only ever had them out of the jar.

  • You pick the grape leaves from the vine during spring.

  • The ones from the jar are not as good as picked by you, so my mom says.

  • These are fresh grapes leaves from her grape vines in the backyard. She wilts them in salt water.

  • @ewgadd Pick the leaves leaving a 1/2 inch stem on. Wash them and then put in a pot of boiling, salted water (2 tbsp per quart) just until they get soft and dull green. Just a minute or two (this is called "blanching"). Then take out and put immediately in ice water.

When you roll them (shiny side out), cut off the stem *almost* to the leaf, but leave a little stem, otherwise, the leaf will tear from the stem end during cooking. Good luck!

  • Of all the YouTube videos about making Stuffed Grape Leaves this one shows the best! Very good and they are too big just right. :)

  • AWESOME! Best food in the world!

  • sarmas in sour cabbage is better!!!

  • This is small sarma

  • lovely video...reminds me of old times with my mom, we always made this together and had fun,,,we enjoy eating it together too, im lebanese so we call it Malfof

  • @gorgeousbabe8787 Malfouf means cabbage, which this is sometimes made with. The lebanese dish is called meHshi waraq ainab (stuffed vine leaves).

  • i make it with my mother but ours are what

    thikker but the same

i always eat the meat !!!

  • This looks excellent. One of my friends sent me a recipe for sarma that is also made with cabbage leaves. It isn't in English, so I am trying to translate it. Does your mom also make the sarma with cabbage?

  • Yes, she does.

  • @ErikaPerika1971 omg did you find out how to make it? may i have the recipie?

    :D

  • oh i feel hungry!

  • lovely... made me hungry!

  • You and your mum can come to my house and make this Lebanese meal anytime!!! My fave! When we run out of grapeleaves we also put with cabage!

  • what was the stuffing? didnt look like rice.

  • Hello,

It is rice, ground beef, herbs and spices

  • You are right. My Mom is Lebanese.

  • I have never tried sarma, but it looks good and I hope to try it some day! Thanks for the posting.

  • Yum! Your mother was very kind to allow you to film this. Please give her my thanks.I love this dish!

  • I am not sure where you live, but in Los Angeles we seem to have all the vegetables all the time. Plus the grape leaves are from the vine in my parents' backyard.

  • Interesting. We call the vegetable thing "summer tolma" (amarayin tolma), and the grape leave one "winter tolma" (since you can make it with preserved leaves, during winter time, when there are no vegies).

  • sarma? or tolma?

  • With grape leaves, we call it sarma. With stuffed eggplants or zucchini, we call it dolma.
