It was not my intent to say that AP had any influence on the music itself - rather the move to themed albums. PF and AP didnt just write music. They composed. I have very eclectic and wide tastes in music. and for some one to say a band like PF is crap shows their ignorance of music. A cheap shot would be to ask who do you still hear on the radio but I hold AP and PF in the same high regard.
AP was the producer for DSotM- and PF is my favorite band. While there is no direct evidence, the circumstantial is, at least, worth consideration. I didn't mean that it was a fact. I only meant that it was an interesting possibility.
I was in band in 1980 when this came out. I immediately grabbed my French horn and worked out the horn line. Went to school the next day and dazzled all my friends by playing it. Still play the horn and this horn lick.
Actually, the best was tales of mystery and imagination by edgar allan poe but this is so close that there isnt much variance. Parsons is Awesome. He produced Dark side of the moon and it's my belief that he's responsible for Pink Floyd's artistic turn toward theme albums. Dont have proof of that but unless I hear otherwise from Floyd or Parsons, that will remain my opinion.
He did not produce Dark side of the moon. He was the recording engineer, nothing else. To claim that he should have had any influence on Pink Floyd´s musical direction is ridiculous. I have not read or heard anyone saying such a thing.
@TheRealXynot No way my friend... about your production-misunderstanding has been said enough here. But you should read/watch more backgroundstories about Pink Floyd... Alan Parson is, no doubt, a VERY gifted musician/composer, but pls don't give him misplaced credits for influencing Pink Floyd in any way; the two can't be compared with eachother in any artistic point of view whatsoever. If you'd analyze deeper, you'd agree.
God I miss the music of the 70's it was pretty much the last of intelligent, emotive, well written music that told a story. I'm sure it's still out there but it's got a good hiding place.
Please, someone listen to the song by David Gilmour titled "On an Island". Listen to to the influence this song had on that. It's so beautiful the way the two songs intertwine.
when you get on a song like that on youtube the only thing you can do is scroll down and like the most liked comments

What a great voice - and outstanding guitar solo, too.

Given the APP album was released 7 years before Enya's first success, surely Enya is like a Feminine Alan Parson's Project?

It's like a Masculine Enya. She no doubt had this ALBUM in her stack.
