Not really. I didn't mean that in a bad way - I love this show. Very few numbers include a lot of basic steps. On this show, there is more focus on entertainment than on technique (compared to a competition).

There's the original Brazilian Samba and the Ballroom Samba (aka latin american samba). Ballroom Samba came from Brazillian Samba, but they are very different.

On DWTS, they dance the Ballroom Samba (sort of). Obviously the choreography is not meant to be technically difficult - it is meant to look good. Most dances do not include a lot of basics...

U can watch Karina from DWTS dance a real "ballroom" samba with Slavik on youtube. I would also recommend watching their rumbas.

oh I do know what I'm talking about since I'm Brazilian and we created samba. Unlike someone said before I've never heard of a dance style called samba which it was not from Brazil. That's absurd. Of course it's not Brazlian samba..this is not even samba! well, perhaps it is samba but it's got so many influences and it's so mixed that none of us..Brazilians see this as samba. Perhaps they should get another name for this dance

or this should be part of the freestyle category.

You're wrong. This is the dance ballroom samba and it is usually not danced with the original samba rhythm.

There are 3 types of samba dances that I'm aware of. "Samba de gafieira" "Samba solo" and "Ballroom Samba". This is "Ballroom Samba" and it came before "Samba de Gafieira" Ballroom samba dates back to 1920's. It is based on the "maxixe".

Thats also the challence for the choreographers to make it work with a diff type of song. I dont really see the problem with this song, it was perfect. Sometimes indeed the songchoice is weird, check out their tango to jessy's girl. stupid song, but yet again julianne made something out of it.
