The "BBE Sonic Stomp" Maximizer unit really makes a Big difference in most anybody's guitar rig or effects pedal board!!Period!!I have found that it feels & sounds best to set your "Contour" to (#10) & "Process" to (#8) or (#9) as this gives your Chords & Notes & Phrases amazing Punchiness & Clarity that is next to impossible to get without it!!Believe me...you will become accustomed to hearing & feeling this "Patented" Circuitry everytime you plug in your guitar or BASS sounds Amazing too!!!
right on, i just plugged one in from my Boss GT-10 into my Randall 1/4 stacks, and it made those Randalls seem like a whole new amp, amazing...I love the sound of tube amps. but if you want your SS to sound amazing, try one of these things...
Hello my guitar brothers, i have the unit that's in this Video & I also purchased an "BBE Sonic Stomp Acoustimax" Unit for acoustic guitars on the same day..and let me tell you folks... all the Studio Sound Engineer's that have tweaked all my EQ frequencies actually love this "BBE AcoustiMax Unit" as you can readily "Dial in" those hard to reach frequencies without messing with your main EQ setUp and get awesome punchy presence!!!Enjoy your Music!!!
@Antilevitation hey brother "Antilevitation" responding to your question (if you're still around) it will actually wakesup your over all tone & harmonics and will tend to make you turn your Volume down abit as you are able to hear all the essence & punchiness on every note, phrases & chords without having to cram all the incoherent soundpressure into your brain!!Ha!!TakeCare
@Antilevitation ...hey thanks for your reply "Sir AntiLeviation"...however before i got to know & understand Gravitational/Magnetic Laws & Terminologies and there really is no "AntiGravity"!!The Correct term is called "Inverse Gravitational Force"..check this out on Facebook: (facebook.com/notes/michael-alexander/free-energy-and-healing-for-everyone-can-be-yours-soon/10150268447364252)
The clean effect was mellow but really pleasant... the dirty side was a gorgeous improvement! It makes me miss my electric rock'n'roll days. Good review!
Tone King dude you helped me understand the bbe sonic stomp i never really understood what it did till now thanks man! Would this work if my doesn't have effects loop? If so where would I put it?
sup tone king i have a line 6 hd100 with jj tubes... i think thats what there called but i was thinking about using a sonic stomp with it do you think i should?
"tone king", what is the use of demoing a pedal with such a subtle difference with a camera mic, you can't judge ANYTHING through a crappy mic.
You're wasting your and our time with these useless reviews, you'd think a "tone king" would realise that you need a GUITAR AMP MIC to demo a pedal or amp...
@fend14 the sonic maximizer adds more than a subtle difference. Look at other reviews of it and you'll see. A subtle difference on a crappy camera mic probably equals big difference in person.
@fend14 first of all it is no SUBLTE difference, that is the POINT. you sound like a snob saying one "has to use guitar amp mic". you get the before and after sounds, pedal on and off that is enough. when YOU play at home.. do you install a guitar amp mic in front of your 5watt amp. go to a mixer and from the mixer to headphones, so you get (in your opinion) "the best sound"? i don't think so
@GeekG this is just rediculous, even 'TTK' doubted the camera would pick up the difference, and yes when i record i use a 57 and go to a mixer.
A good guitar sound is all about harmonic overtones, dynamics and response. A camera mic compresses, and colours the sound by itself, just like the BBE, making this video worthless.
@fend14 I agree completely with GeekG - I've just listened to this demo through the crappy speakers on my laptop and I can still hear a noticeable difference, particularly when he's using the dirty sound with the controls boosted. As for the BBE compressing and coloring the sound, what the hell are you talking about? - I'd say it does the exact opposite.
This guy made a shit review all becuase he played an open tone string ringing, what he called, a riff. I own this pedal, and it's amazing, this doesn't do it any justice.
I tihnk this pedal sounds really nice. To me it sounds like it's boosting the really high frequencies say 18k or more so it adds clarity and a bit of presence although the low contour sounds a bit... naff =S
i use this set up with a modded Boss SD-1 for a boost up front. it makes the amp a whole new beast! the diffrance really comes in when in drop tunnings.
i play jackson and ibanez guitars through an Engl invader head and laney 4x12 cab with vintage 30's, would this pedal be a useful addition to my set up?
ps style is predominatly melo death, but also blues/rock etc
Whatever douche ~ when he turns it up on the distortion, it enables him to add enough high-end clarity to get out of the mud-zone.
Sure, your mud sounds good in your garage, but thats why you dont understand the value here. This pedal will enable a guitar player to cut through the mix and be well defined at the same time. Keep your "organic" mud if ya like...
Welcome to earth, which planet did you come from? I'm sure you are one of those guys showing up with a Line 6 or DigiTech pedal throwing the treble completely open ;') I can imagine the conversation with your future band mates "what the hell are you doing?!" .. "shut up ~douche~, I need to cut through your ~drum-zone~". Ever noticed the 'mid' and 'volume' knob?
The trick is with this pedal, its really not "quite" treble which it enhances. And no, lol, Im not someone who shear peoples skin off with treble at shows, lol. I hate that too.
But thats what rare about this pedal. Its not quite a treble boost, and not quite a presence boost either. Its a clarity booster. Sure at its extreme end, itll get bright and trebley as all get out, but its weird ~ its not a treble or presence boost but a third beast of that type ~ im stickin with "clarity boost" :P
i've got one of these on my pedal board and its the most indispensable pedal i have. makes my clean tone sparkle and it really boosts the sound of my distortion pedals making it sound deeper, chunkier, tighter.... get one
Honestly it just sounds like a pedal that drops mids and has a contour knob and that's about it. Maybe if your amp doesn't provide a contour knob I can see getting this.
lol thanks, wasn't sure if it would be as effective. I should have specified that I'm using 2 pedals right now (metal muff and morley wah) and I just wanted to make sure that I'd still get the same clarity without an fx loop
I totally disagree with DL390... This pedal is a must have on every board. I've used this pedal on every amp I have owned in the last 6 years and it's by far the most significant effect that I have... I could not live without it now.
i have the rack unit and also the pedal. the efect its so subtle and efective. no damage tone at all. great must have tool for a live and recording guitar player!!!!!
I have one in my rack right now, mines a 462, and I love it. It really does make a difference. I first learned about BBE from Marty Friedman. He has always used one.

AGES ago you sa\y.... so that's one more reason why he should do revisit this classic.I was asking him if he could show us how metal players like Jeff Loomis use it etc. besides reviewing it as just an overdrive.
This is actually a very nice addition to your sound. I think using a Blackstar was a very good idea. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe this will sound better on UK/British sounding amps than say Fenders which are already very clear. In my opinion anyone with an effects loop in their amp should be running one of these, even if you do not use any other pedals. He is correct, the difference is very noticeable. When my band rehearses I sometimes do not feel like carrying my entire pedalboard to our room, but I always take my Sonic Stomp.
I believe Cowon was selling them for $50 (before coupons/discounts), but I didn't pick one up because of the lack of an Amazon account. They're definitely worth checking out even if you don't play guitar. It sounds equally well on other instruments and also does wonders for your MP3/CD/cassette players (my PMP has one built in and it's easy to tell the difference between itself and any other iPod/MP3 player because of the sound quality).
His guitars usually get good reviews but the man himself is widely lampooned on the net as a loud mouth wack job. Don't let that stop you from buying a branded guitar if you like how it sounds though!
To me sounds like a compressor, if you play with EMG's pick ups, you don't really need this pedal
