  • i have a problem, i bought this card by online shopping last year, now i live in india , while i play ANY game in my computer for sometime there will be some black cuttings appearing on screen, like long triangles whose base's on the sides of the screen and some times the game stops or the system crash. this card uses a 6 pin power supply but i have used an adapter fr my 4 pin 500w power supply.is it some manufacturing defect?or any of the props listed above?what should i do?

  • @akh00il Sorry about the late reply, though it seems like your card may be dying (perhaps due to heat? India occasionally has freezing winters, though I remember being there during summer - ouch!)

Hope you've somehow solved your problem, I've recently moved to another country also.

  • for some reason i think 9600gt reference cooler looks better than 8800gt reference. also better thermal control and larger fan area. also higher idle fan speed (40%vs25%) and higher air flow rating. not to mention it has same copper based heatsink like 8800gt reference which add more advantage in cooling. but graphical performance....only to be acceptable with its price range :(

  • @hanrinch The idle fan speed is constantly adjusting, based on what the temperature sensors feel is needed.

Higher idle fan speeds mean your card, according to the NVidia control panel and thermal sensors, is getting too hot and needs more work to cool down.

Graphical performance between the cards may be similar on lower resolutions, but any game that is more taxing graphically, at a resolution higher than 1024x768, the 8800GT shows a clear advantage.

  • so far i know that the reference 9600gt i had is 36c at idle&55c at furmark(rom temp: 29c/90f) while 8800gt kept above 50c at idle and 95c at furmark test, that's all that matter. it shown 9600gt had clearly better thermal control than 8800gt(of cause smaller die space did help out a lot) as for the graphical performance 8800gt does not able to take advantage over 9600gt in older game like fear/doom3/far cry. it only outperforms 9600gt in shader intensive game like bfbc&cod mw

  • @hanrinch The older games you mentioned aren't that taxing on the system, so of course there wouldn't be any difference in performance between the 8800GT and the 9600GT.

You might as well have said, "a Voodoo 2 graphics card runs Doom 2 the same as if I used a GTX 250".

  • they are similar in spec except 9600gt's shader are only half of 8800gt which certain game like bad comapny/modern warfare/duke nukem would take advantage on more shader despite both have same rop/bus width/datapath width/ram&core clock speed. but on game that's texture/pixel/polygon intensive(ex: crysis/far cry/stalker/lost planet) th higher clock 9600gt perform just better than 8800gt. voodoo card can run quake2 like gts 250 but the later card is far faster in framerate count(50 vs 2000fps).

  • @hanrinch ... I think you missed my point.

It doesn't really make a difference. Once the framerate goes past 60, most peoples eyes are unable to tell the difference between 70 and 200. It's human biology.

Also, framerate is relevant to refresh rate, when speaking of computer games. Meaning, if your PC handles a maximum refresh rate of 75Hz, the maximum framerate it will detect for the max quality that your monitor can handle will be 75 FPS, even if in-game framerate give higher numbers.

  • I've had this card for about a year or more know.. And it's starting to fail.

The temp is getting up to insane numbers when playing any sort of game ( around 100 degrees Celsius )

    And yeah...

    Getting a new one.

  • @globalko get some better cooling :3

  • @Martyr022 Nah, The card isn't that good:) Just bought Raedon HD 5770 tho:D It's a beast card

  • i got this card. worst mistake ever :) it died in about a year and now running around in cod with 12 - 13 fps

  • @tomasv13 The reason for this isn't the card itself, but an error in manufacturing.

The reason why these cards have a high failure rate, is due to a problem in the memory modules which has been addressed by nVidia YEARS ago. The same problem affected hundreds of thousands of graphics cards by nVidia using the G80 range chipset.

The card itself is a dream, and any manufacturing problems should be taken up with a claim of the warranty (which should be at least 2 years on the XFX models).

  • ive got this cod and i play MW2 full specs no problem :) and i got it from novatech haha

  • Last year, near to the end of August.

  • U can play Batlefield 2 with no problems with this huh?

  • BF2 and BF2142 are not very recent, so this should play those games without a ptoblem.

  • thanks man, very useful. i think ill buy it

  • This card was good, until I found out that the fan is stuck at 29%...

  • That's a bit odd, sounds defective to me as currently my card's fan is running at 50-60%.

You should probably open a ticket on the XFX website.

  • Does it have life time warranty? Well, I've heard lots of people having trouble with the fan. Either stuck at 29%, or 100%.

Guess my graphic card is damaged, because all games freezes, and sometimes when I enter the desktop, the screen goes black with orange light...

  • @duelistxistenz mine is too, did you solve it ?

  • @sibenikkk Nah, tbh I got tired of stationary computers. Always something wrong. Have been using laptop for quite some time, and haven't got a single problem.

  • whats better the 8800gt alphadog 512mb or a 8800gt 512gb. i will be running this on a 19' monitor. And the game i will play the most is css

  • The XFX Alphadog edition of the 8800GT is exactly the same in specs than a regular 8800GT, only it comes with an improved cooler and design.

A lot of people think it means "overclocked", which is untrue as the Alphadog cards come in factory clocked 'and' overclocked versions.

    My Alphadog is not overclocked.

I'd go for the Alphadog if you could, though, as the improved cooler is worth it (runs atleast 15-20 Celcius cooler than most other 8800GT cards), which increases the life of the card.

  • Thanks bro for the response.

You earned my sub :) keep up the good work!

  • lol thanks dude.

I'll have to start a vidcast sometime, after I've properly edited my videos and all that.

  • will this card run mass effect on max settin and 720 resolution?

  • 720p is not that high of a resolution (1280x720).

I play all my games at 1280x1024 easily at max settings, my friend has a better CPU and RAM, but the exact same card, and he runs his games higher than 1600 without any problems.

    Hope this helps.

  • $84 ON TIGER DIRECT!

  • nice im going to get this card now

  • my xfx 8800gt is faster then the 8800gts 320mb

  • some1 help me... should i get this card or the 9600gt superclocked there the same price i have no ideawitch to get :'(

  • If you could get either at the same price, I'd go for the 8800GT (which is the same as the 9800GT in performance).

While the 9600GT is on-par with lower resolutions, the performance really takes a hit on anything higher than 1024x1280. The 8800/9800 GT gives top notch performance across a range of resolutions, and give framerates MUCH higher than the 9600GT.

  • I play most of my games at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and 8xAF. Last night I was playing CoD:WaW with the AF maxed out, and my framerate went as high as 90 (stayed around 60-80 on average in online matches).

I play all my games with the settings set to highest, and I don't experience any lag or frameskips. I would highly recommend the 8800/9800 GT.

  • Whoops, in the first comment I meant "1024x768"

    Sorry, just woke up.

  • I need a XFX Radeon HD 4870 XXX Edition Video Card

  • ok.

  • Nice Very Nice

  • wtf "16+" on the front of the box at 0:59

  • The British rating system goes by age, rather than "M" or "E" and such. For the most part, anyway.

The 16+ rating on the box is for Company of Heroes, which was included with the graphics card.

  • got it

  • is it better than the GTX?

  • On some games, the performance is 'on-par' with the GTX, however the GTX has alot of advantages that shine through in other games.

So, the two cards are neck-and-neck in benchmarks, basically.

  • and8800GT Alpha dog wit GTS?

  • The Alpha Dog line of graphics cards are mainly referring to the design rather than performance.

Like, my Alpha Dog isn't overclocked at the factory at-all.

The advantage the label Alpha Dog gives is improved fans and airflow, making the card run up to 20c cooler than the same card by other companies (which is really impressive).

The 8800GT is better than the 8800GTS.

  • thanks 4 the help mate^^!!!!

  • No problem :)

  • did u try to overclock it???

  • I haven't, no, for a few reasons.

    1) It would void my warranty (in the UK).

    2) The card can play any game I've thrown at it on max settings, with 4xAA and 8xAF @ 1280x1024 at 60fps or more.

So no real need to overclock lol, unless you use much higher resolutions.

  • a same here then. Coz i live in Malta and I just bought it from Ebay coz am buiding an i7 pc bit by bit. thanks 4 the great help!

  • No, the 8800gts is better; it is an overclocked 8800gt. The 8800gs would be inferior to the 8800gt. The 8800gtx is king over them all with better memory/clocking (and the ultra over all of them, though the 8800s have been superseded but are still around as the 9800gt).

  • The newer 8800GTS is neck-and-neck with the 8800GT, though the 8800GT was released to manufacturers far before the revision was made to the 8800GTS (also known as the 8800GTS 512). They both use the same process, as the 8800GTS had been upgraded, although this version is still not available everywhere and most places still sell the older model (thus, the comment about the 8800GT being better than the 8800GTS is still valid).

  • The 8800GTX was released before the lower nm process was used by nVidia (with the 8800GT's release).

Due to the 8800GTX still using a 92nm process, a slew of problems were faced including heat issues and the inability to take full advantage of it's capabilities, due to this the 8800GT (in certain games) passes the 8800GTX.

The 8800GTX Ultra is far superior, however.

  • For reference on the power of the G92 (used in the 8800GT), here is a direct copy/paste from the Wikipedia article on the GeForce 8 series of cards:

"While its core processing power is comparable to that of the GTX, the 256-bit memory interface and the 512 MB of GDDR3 memory often hinders its performance at very high resolutions and graphics settings."

Not all games require such high strenuous situations, apart from Crysis (obviously).

  • The highest resolution my monitor goes to, is 1280x1024 @ 75Hz, so there is barely, if any, difference to my 8800GT and an 8800GTX.

  • Oh, last comment(s), a copy/paste of the same article:

"The release of this card presents an odd dynamic to the graphics processing industry. At an NVIDIA projected initial street price of around $200, this card outperforms the ATI flagship HD2900XT and HD3870 in most situations, and even NVIDIA's own 8800 GTS 640mb (previously priced at an MSRP of $400). "

  • (part 2)

"The card, only marginally slower in synthetic and gaming benchmarks than the 8800 GTX, also takes much of the value away from NVIDIA's own high end card. This release was shortly followed by the (EVGA) 8800 GTS SSC (the original 8800 GTS re-released with 96+ (112) shader processor units), and ATI's counter, the HD 3800 series."

  • sexy card very good card in sli but not as good as 9600 gt :P

  • 9600GT is 'on-par' with lower resolutions, though the 8800GT is far superior in performance on anything higher than 1024x768 (if you still run such a low res. I have to laugh at you).

The 9600GT might've been alright with old drivers, though take note that over 10 have been released since the release which really widen the gap.

I'd love to see a 9600GT get over 80-90FPS on CoD4 @1280x1024 with 4xAA and maxed out AF, with everything else set to maximum (so max settings).

  • lol its better XD compare them. its better. It can do better than the GTX too.

  • huge box for a graphics card lol

  • The graphics card itself is pretty big.

Just over 4 inches tall, ~9 inches long.

  • ok..anyway thnx.. i will consider this card then : )

  • between... can it be compatible to my system?? specs: core 2 duo2.33ghz, 3gb ddr2 667mhz, 320 gb sata hdd, vista home premium?? and anyway how much power does this card needs??

  • ou.. big card.. but which is better?? this model or xfx 9500gt?? im planning 2 buy 1 of this...

  • The 8800GT is exactly the same as the 9800GT, only the 9800GT has a few other features (which don't improve performance at all).

This will work with your specs, aslong as you have a PCI-e x16 slot on your motherboard.

Read up for the other questions, as they've been answered before in comments.

  • a small graphic card in a huge box..lolx.. anyway hows d graphix of this card??

  • Uhh, the graphics card isn't small at all :S

Takes up 80-90% of the box. The card is just over 9 inches long, 4-5 inches tall.

Graphics are good. I can easily play any game at max settings without any lag (besides GTA4, but Rockstar are stupid with the way they made the game).

  • Novatech (=

  • Yeah, really fast delivery. Got the entire thing with next-day delivery for £90.

At the moment, they have a bit of a Christmas sale going on, 9800GT for £90.

I don't work for Novatech, though, despite all this advertisement XD

    Just a fantastic site.

  • is that XFX GeForce 8800 GT Alpha Dog 512MB GDDR3 PV-T88P-YDF4 graphic card? if it's then it is the same as mine. I OC'ed mine to XXX edition 670/975/1675 BTW congrats on purchase, in my case it was really worth it ;)

  • Yeah, it's the Alpha Dog 512MB, standard clock.

I haven't really had the need to even consider overclocking it though. In the UK, overclocking isn't covered by the warranty, for some reason.. Isn't a lifetime warranty, either, sadly.

  • ouch, I thought it is lifetime warranty and overclocking is covered by it. I will ask XFX support to find out if it's true. Thx for letting me know tho ;)

  • is that an akira poster?

  • Lol good eye. Yeah, he's standing infront of Neo Tokyo holding a futuristic rifle, with the text underneath reading:

    "2019

    Neo-Tokyo is about to

    E.X.P.L.O.D.E"

  • an emo that likes computers?

  • Rofl, if you think I'm emo you need to go back to school.

    Descriminating dumb shit.

  • and also gonna have QUAD CPU 2.33ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb HDD, and a mobo from Intel... do i have to use WIN XP or Vista?

  • You can use any OS, if you want.

Whether you want to use Vista or XP is down to personal preference. The problems Vista had at launch at now non-existant.

There's barely any difference in framerate between the two, now.

  • hey gonna have one of that vid card, so im gonna ask if it will RUN on WIN XP??

  • hey i have a 8500 gt video card and 2 gb

do you think that far cry 2 will run great =?

  • It should run fine, it won't run on max settings or very well with everything on high with an 8500GT card, but it will be very playable with a few tweaks.

Try to turn off Anti Aliasing (AA) and Anisotropic Filtering (AF), also turn down/off the shadows and reflections if the game gets choppy.

You should be able to play the game with decent graphics much smoother after a few tweaks.

  • Oh, also, check the requirements of the game with the rest of your specs.

RAM and the graphics card, while the main factors, aren't the only things you need to run the game.

Also look at your CPU and such.

Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard, and press R. Type in (without quotes) "dxdiag" and press Enter.

Detailed systems specs should come up for your system.

  • i want this not quite sure on single slot though but the box looks awesome how does it run on crysis?

  • Runs pretty well.

My system is bottlenecking the card and it still runs at around 30fps on high settings, which isn't bad at all :)

If you have a decent CPU and RAM, then you should be fine cranking up around 40fps on Crysis, on high.

Don't worry about the Single Slot thing, it actually saves ALOT of space, and runs really cool too. ~50 Celcius on idle, 50-59 Celcius on load. Rarely ever reaches 60 (the card itself can go up to 90 or so).

  • Thats what im worried single slot solutions tend to get hot but still nice system =]

  • Yeah, you don't have to worry about temps on this card. The XFX model runs about 20c cooler than most other 8800GT models, thanks to the improved fan fins/size and such.

If you search Google for other models, you'll notice alot of people saying the 'normal' temp is supposed to be around 70c ;)

XFX did a great job, well worth the money.

  • Found a Xfx 9800gtx+ for like £15 cheaper =D im getting that now cheers for the information

  • Lol no prob.

And nice! That's gonna be one future proof PC :D

  • nice vid !!

i HAV THE SAME CARD AND IT ROCKS !!!!

  • Heck yes!

Max settings with full AA and AF without skipping - win :D

  • hello, nice vid

i have question how long is this card ?

please may may measure it cause i wanna see if it fits in my case, and thanks

    best regards pilot7amood

  • Hi, the card itself is roughly 9.4 inches long.

The 8800GT uses a single-slot design, and is as tall as any other PCI/PCIe card.

    Hope this helps.

  • thanks you are helpful

  • Lol, this is probably the most polite comment I've ever had on Youtube.

    Thanks :)

Hope your card installs fine. Oh and, read the comments above yours, it's a common problem I had where the Amps on the +12v rail of your power supply is more important than the watts (aslong as you have around 500-600 watts). Most PSUs have only 20-22A, and the 8800GT needs roughly 26A minimum to work smoothly.

I have a Corsair, which has 41A. It's really cheap compared to others and has a life of 100,000 hours.

  • thank you so you would recommend me to buy a 500- 600 PSU not a 450 PSU

  • hello

may you help me i want to buy BFG 8800 gt which is pci-e 2.0 and want to install it in my motherboard which has pci-e x16

    will it work ?

    and thanks

  • Yes, PCIe 2.0 is backwards compatible with PCIe x16 slots.

  • bad sound but nice vid

  • Nice man

Mine is coming in a few days!

    I cant wait!

    xD

  • It's worth it!! :D

I got my PSU at 8:05am this morning (delivery was scheduled for 8am-6pm, what service! :o).

I only have a 4600+ (2.4GHz) and I played Crysis with everything on high (2xAA), UT3 with everything on high, BIOSHOCK with everything on high, without a hiccup!! Crysis was great, was a teensy bit of stutter when the game was saving, but other than that, SMOOTH.

    Bioshock played so smoothly.

I previously was running integrated video, a GeForce 6100. So this is absolutely mind blowing :D

  • mine is a Dual Core 1.6 @ 1.6...

I'm actually with a GF 8500GT,but is not good...

Well, when the VGA comes,i will test in crysis!

    :D

  • Crysis is fun, but not all that.

The main reason why alot of people play Crysis as the first game when they get a new Graphics Card, is because if your card can run Crysis in high, you can run anything in high :P

  • Nice card, i have an EVGA 8800GT Superclocked myself, basically the exact same card... Just got Crysis now, but i have uploaded some videos of me playing the demo, check it out..
