Tehre are different ways. In this case I was using a single computer with single graphics card with dual output. So I edited the settings in xorg.conf file to make the small gap between the monitors. That way you have a little blind area that lets the scene be like if the window has a frame in the middle.
If you don't need this little gap, it's almost plug and play with ubuntu and intel graphics card. If you're using nvidia(as I am) using nvidia-settings is easy too.
Would it be possible to set up a head cam to detect where you are looking? You could look around the cockpit or thru the windows etc....That with 6 displays would be awesome!
This was an initial approach to have it working on 6 monitors without distortions on the monitor's edges. Using just 1 TV only allows for a single view direction.
Would it be possible to set this up with two notebooks, one running as a slave, without a new video card? I have another laptop that I'm not using right now because it can't seem to handle my schoolwork anymore. After four years of highschool, it just decided not to load Windows anymore and I was forced to use the recovery disk. Once I get a new virus scan on it, I'd like to see if I can do this with it.
Sure you can, you only need a network connection between the computers. I suggest you install linux on both laptops and forget about windows anymore. Try with ubuntu. Then you can create a start script for flightgear on each laptop, and configure the settings according to your setup.(view direction, field of view, and so on). I did it with 3 computers and 6 screens, and was really cool.
Thanks for the reply. My only issue would be that I have no experience with Linux, and would prefer to not have to lose Windows. I'm sure that sounds crazy, but I've been using Windows since I was 5. I'm sure there are much more tutorials for doing this with Linux than Windows, though.
FSX is better looking, but, hey.. this iz free! can't ask for too much!, I've got it working with my cell phone as a GPS!!, even tried with Google earth! using the --nmea parameter!!!!
How did you made the screens like that? Did you have to fix the computer settings or the games setting?

@DJJuri96 : Easier, but with lesser resolution.

I would take 6 same monitors apart from their body. It would make the image slightly more seamless.

great! suggestion: get the same monitors so the quality is same

Yes that's right, indeed it was just an experiment. We're planning to do so with 6 Monitors.
Greetings, Felipe.
PS: The great part is that I added a small gap between the monitors to compensate the border's width.

3D clouds and the OSG version don't work with ATI cards :(

3d clouds don't work with OSG.
Ati, Nvidia or Intel doesn't matter.
zomschenator 3 years ago
That was badly worded.
3D clouds (in the plib version) don't work with ATI cards.
Also, the OSG version doesn't work for me at all (at the time of writing).
Having said that, I've since got the OSG version working.
