fucking great :) what do you think of the 1001rb? can it get a really nice trebelly rock tone? Cos i'm looking for versitility, just a classic smooth fingerstyle tone, punchy slap tone, and a trebelly rock tone?
Dude... mad props ! This is one of the best renditions of this song I've seen done by someone else than the great Vic himself !! Keep up the good work
hey man, great playing! i've watched several times for reference since i don't have 24 fretted bass either. anyway how did you get down from 1.41? did you get it by ear? i'm studying this with victor transcribed tabs but the rhythm isn't so clear to me..how did you practice this section?
With great difficulty. =) It took me a long time to figure out how to get it roughly correct but I'm not doing it exactly like victor does it. The way I'm playing it is, by using my thumb to hit the bass notes and using my index and middle fingers to 'double pop' the melody line. Since this video I've learned how to do it Victors way as well though always tend to play it my way still. Victor taps the bass notes with his left and and strums the melody with his right hand. Hope this helps ;)
Dude, this recording was practically flawless. I wouldn't have been able to tell the deference between the recording and your take of it. 5 stars dude and mad props.
Hey man, your bass sounds awesome! But with your technique, it is impossible to play this song. I've recently learned this song and the thing is, you have to strum with your first two fingers up and down. Also, definitely practice using a metronome at ALL times man. A metronome/drum machine could easily fix the little bit of sloppyness. Hmm I'm not sure exactly what you are doing in the middle section, but you need to strums those notes while simply tapping the bass line. Good job though.
To bring out the groove and make it more impressive, I suggest you use a drum track to play along with. There are times you break with time and a drum would straighten that out. Best wishes with your music..

cool bass, nice sound, it´s not the right technique but sounds very cool, you don´t have to do "the face", makes you look like a beginner, close your mouth! congratulations
Yea, I know that its supposed to be double thumped on the D string and I can play it the correct way. It's just when I recorded this I wasn't set out to play the song exactly right. The way I play it in this is more comfortable for me and I spose it's just me being lazy as well :)
I do a lot of double plucking especially around the end. And theres a fill somewhere in it where I do a double thumped run down the G string.
The EQ is great. Adds many tonal possibilities and can also be used as a volume boost if needed. I tend to use it to boost mids and volume for solo's live.
For general playing you can get some very nice tones. Can achieve a very nice marcus miller slap tone with it.
Some parts I figured out and some stuff I looked at the tab for. When I did this for my AS music practical exam I bought the victor wooten book to get things a bit more accurate.
Howdy, I have been playing for over 28 years and just bought a Gallien-Krueger 1001RBII for 588.00 at Guitar Center (near Portland Oregon) and LOVE IT! Of all my amps over all of the years, this one sound the best....hands down.
I might repost a new version of this song. I can play it better now. Figured out the middle section a bit better and this version was particularly tight. Few slip ups in places. Plus I have a new bass :)
They are either elixirs or Optima golds. Can't really tell from the video. I've got a strong feeling they are optima gold coated strings based on the tone.
The notation is available in the Victor wooten tab book. The Best of Victor Wooten. Do a search on amazon. Has tabs for this song and many others of his songs. :)
I would say the tone is largely the bass. I'm using a Boss GEB-7 too which shapes the tone too but that is only switched on in the chorus section of the song. I find the rig (Gallien Krueger 1001rb-II through a 410 SBX) gives me a nice clean sound but adds some growl and obviously adds further EQ shaping. If i plug my Musicman in the tone is much different.
Amazing. Awesome job!

It's decent. You should really work on your right hand technique. Look at the way VLW actually plays. If you can do just that it would help a lot.
