  • i was one of them. i was one of the two daughters

  • I was only 2 when it happened. I feel so sad. I can't take the image of that girl who was ALMOST saved out of my mind. Now,can you imagine her relatives watching to this and knowing she was close to be saved but wasn't?? It's so sad...

  • I don't understand, it was a church bus!! How did God let any of them die?

  • if they stayed at the camp would they have been okay or would the flood have taken over there too? just wondering bc perhaps it may have been wiser to stay put versus crossing the river.

  • To kempsun....Kevin Absher one of the kids you pulled from the river is my best friend. He is doing great. He is a pastor of his own church.

thanks for risking you life to save his.

  • I bet some of the people on the bus didn't like one another. But makes you think about being nice to people sometimes or another cause you never know♥

  • I was reading in the paper this morning that, once again, heavy rains, have caused the Guadalupe River to swell over it's banks. The paper shows a picture of several school buses from Rockin' "R" River Rides caught in the water. The flooding cause heavy damage to central Texas

  • I am now a paramedic for Kendall County. This is still talked about to this day.

  • 7 people dead?

  • @BeautifulXable no 10 died

  • @BeautifulXable no, 10 people.

  • Whats awesome is the polite of the KENS5 chopper now flies for the hospital :)

  • the worst part is the one of the girl who was almost saved, but then got swept away..that is so haunting..so sad. RIP

  • @crazy3diamond I thought the same thing. Haunting is the perfect word to describe it.

  • to sad for words

  • at 3:04 , she looks like Roseanne Barr (an actress) don't you think ?

  • i bet none of them think of a helicopter the same way

  • 60 mph flood waters?!?!

at 3:05- 3:08 that's probably the most horrible thing I've ever heard or had to comprehend on rescue 911. But why did they immediately give up on one of their daughters?

  • i remember this, they launched a movie over this flood, even today you see videos of the woman in the tree for flood insurance ads, 43 victims are small compared to today's normal death tolls of thousands

  • I guess God said a couple people had to die

  • R.I.P to those who left us as a result of this flood!

    :'(

    May they never be forgotten!

  • 40 KIDS IN A BUS IN A 20 FOOT RAVINE

  • this story ripped my heart in half. god bless the victims

  • what is the name of the movie dedicated to them?

  • Its called Flood:Who will save the children? it shows on lifetime sometimes...extremely sad cuz they used some of the real footage

  • i was there at that ranch when the bus was swept over, and i will always remember that day until i die..

  • my dad and his 2 sisters and brother were in this.. my papa had an interview thing.. wow.. i really have never been told about it.. and i really would like to see that video ya'll were talking about! but anyway my mimi would always tell me that my aunt cindy k and uncle christopher couldnt find their shoes thats why they didnt come home after that day.. i had never meet them.. i wasnt even born yet actually but anyway.. i watched this saw my aunt michelle being carried i just started crying..

  • wow at 7:28 those are your aunt's and uncle's headstones? pretty sad i bet.

  • 10 children died.... wow....

  • this is really cool to find on here im from comfort my dad is the guy with the beard asking how many people there are was a sad day for my town all these people saveing lifes are all vol fire and ems and just news people true heros there was no high water rescue anything back then they pulled some crazy shit and saved a lot of lives that day now there is training programs for this stuff because of what happened and still happens

  • Gene Marsh is part of my family and when I saw him I was like OMG! Good thing he is ok! Love ya Uncle Gene

  • @Kingofpop19852009 your uncle dated my mom after that happened, Seagoville Road Baptist Church is also known as Balch Springs Christian Academy,, the school my mom went to and the one i am going to,, i have heard this story over and over again,, but it seems unreal until you see the footage,, i know so many adults who survived this,, and parents who lost their children too.. its a very sad thing...

  • This happened when I was 10 years old. I'm now 32. I was at the camp with these other children for that week. Our bus left an hour before theirs. I don't remember a lot of the details but do remember there being an urgency to leave because of the flooding. I remember watching the news later that day and seeing that if we had hesitated, we would have been the unfortunate ones. The driver probably felt he had plenty of clearance.

  • :(:::::::

  • i just saw this on spike tv's most amazing videos right now..... my god, it makes ya sad. We should never take life forgranted

  • This was on The World's Most Amazing Videos? Man, how many shows has this been on? That makes three that I know of: Rescue 9-1-1, Real TV, and The World's Most Amazing Videos.

  • from what I understand If everyone at the camp had decided to wait out the flooding instead of trying to beat it that the children could have been spared.

  • I think my heart just froze on me.I feel sad right now.

  • depressing!!!=[

  • hi allgood2000 shatner today seemed to lose that narrative voice that was so familiar to Rescue 9-1-1- fans have you noticed it also?

  • here in Brazil the film is today!

  • how sad. :(

  • My father is the pilot of the army helicopter who helped in the efforts to save them. His friend is the one who pulled them from all the trees. I am sorry for those lost loved ones.

  • my dad is the man who pulled 15 people from the water that day!

  • that is cool in a way is in this video?

  • i heard the story so many times i attended the school where this event happened the pictures are still up on the wall in the hallway and i know a lot of these peoples relatives sue henderson told my class the whole story and it really touched a lot of hearts

  • @julianfoster88 im sorry,, 22 years ago, i pushed the post before i read over what i wrote.

  • what is the final ephisode?

p.s. is this the first ephisode?

  • The final episode was Episode 714.

This was the first segment on the first episode (it re-aired on Episode 117, which is where this version I have uploaded came from). The other segments from the first episode were "Houston Trauma Docu" (re-aired on Episode 211), "Arlington" (re-aired on Episode 116), and "Baby Fire Rescue" (re-aired on Episode 114).

  • Have they found John yet??

  • no still gone

  • no they havent found him

  • That's so sad R.I.P. all those people who died those people where so stupid to take them out like that they could have waited 1 more day to take them home! so sad!

  • look at it again the river WAS flooding it couldve got them at church camp to..the water was fast

  • i know what that feels like

  • yes truly sad i know how they must feel i almost had drowned with my friends ........ felling the sensation of breath ....... lossing strengh ......... thinking evryone that means something for u .... hard to describe how desperate i was ...... fourtunately i could take me and my friends out of water ...... really ... dont know how

  • Very sad. Something like that makes everyday more precious than the last.

  • I was on the bus there is no need for anyone to fight with anyone on this. its been 21 years now. shoot im about to be 39 now and i was 17 at the time.

  • wow!! what you must have been through that day. I saw it on t.v. unbelievable.

  • I was at the camp that week. I was 10 years old and now I'm 32. Our bus left safely an hour before yours. Wow, can't believe what an hour of flooding can make. Our church was Bellmead Calvary Baptist.

  • My father was one of the men who pulled out kids! He is happy to see/hear that you are doing well

  • Hey AssemblerEX there was no such thing as nintendo in the 80s duh, i wasn't around in the 80s but my mother told me that they had no electronic game systems back then!

  • is the camp called pot o gold? you can still see that bus in it's original flood state and postion. creepy sight

  • Yes, it happened at Pot O Gold.

  • If they had stayed at home playing nintendo instead of going to jesus camp they'd all be alive. Religion is such a self deception.

  • go fuck yourself

  • i remember watching this one on TV,.. and cried.

  • KENS Channel 5 is San Antonio's CBS affiliate, for those who don't know.

  • yep i live in san antonio i live close to where this happend but i wasnt alive back then

  • I attended the camp where these young people were for seven years between the ages 11 and 17.The year of the flood would have been my last year to attend as a camper.I have attended several times as a counselor and will do so again this Summer with two different groups.I was so devastated by the horrible loss of the lives, but also thankful that I missed camp that year. This tragedy affected so many families and the directors of the camp.21 years later I know they all still need our prayers.

  • how did you miss camp that was very lucky

  • cutegirl969696 just imagine if someone so close died.. it feels horrible, seriously. I feel so sorry for all those families that have to put up with this in such a tragic death. xx Rest in peace xx

  • I realize that hindsight is 20/20, but why didn't they just keep the kids at the camp instead of risking 40+ lives to try to beat a flood?

  • According to Shatner's talk, the camp was severely threatened by the floodwaters, and had the waters rose another foot or two, it would have been swept away.

  • No one has the gift of hindsight during the actual calamity.

  • they wanted all the kids to leave so they could get ready for the next group to come

  • no the river was FLOODING pay attention! Watch it again

  • you know I was in the flood back in 87 and was at the front trust me I think I know what im talking about.

  • I was one of the kids on the bus and they told us that we had to leave so they could get ready for the next group.

  • Oh god that is so sad. Please let them rest in peace. I hope this never happens again. My heart goes out to their familes. that is just so tragic, i wouldn't know how i could be one of those rescuers.

  • shit happens so what they deal with it every one dies some day

  • Judging from what you are saying, I do not think you are a parent. "Dealing with it" is hard and takes a lifetime.

  • I hope you dont feel the same way when someone close to you dies. How could you be so heartless.

  • this happened one day before i turned 4! I remember seeing this on Rescue 911 when it originally aired! it was so sad to see that!

  • Just go ahead and tell us what the connection is to you.

  • i was one day old when this happened!!

  • i teared watching this. it's so sad, and tragic.

  • the guad can be very mean and dangerous. last season a young lady had drowned prior to our arrival.

  • That is a horrible event, I can't believe that 10 children died, so sad.

  • No.

  • how sad is it to lose the ones you love in a disaster like this i feel for those families and friends of those ten who died that day

  • Pray for those who lost their lives, pray for those who helped save those that were saved, and pray for John Bankston to be found so that he may rest in peace.

  • Hard to believe, but it happened 20 years ago today.

  • in your description why would you say this was the very first segment ever to air on 9-1-1- because there was other segments to follow?

  • Because it was the first segment on the pilot episode, so it was the first one to air on television.

  • Man how sad! for wance i feel sad for people like this tragidies.

  • OMG this was just terrible, so much worse when it involves kids and young people. Devastating.

  • I am a survivor not a savior. Sorry, push the post comment button before I read what I typed!!

  • I am a savior of this accident and thank everyone that help save my friends and myself. I hope no one every forgets this day. I am happy to know that our story touched so many other lives and that people can learn from our experience. I share the memories, pictures, and videos with my children as a lesson of how life can change no matter how old are young you are.

  • Glad you are alive and well. Terrible to think how much worse this could have been. xoxo

  • My father was one of the men who pulled kids out of the river that day! He tells his story so those will be remembered and hopes to someday meet up with someone to see how they are doing.

  • Telephofee, I have Simon Birch too, and the whole movie, especially the bus scene, is SO heartbreaking! (But not without the occasional hilarity.)

  • I HAVE SIMON BIRCH MOVIE TOO

  • They made this story into a tv movie, and it was released to dvd. I got mine from ebay. It was called The Flood: Who Will Save Our Children?

  • Definitely one of my favorite segments in the first season as well as series. I always like the footage as it happens

  • Both daughters are out there, which one would you choose to come back? What the $@#% kinda comment is that for a Dad to make? Poor wording @ best!

  • I thought the same thing

  • Old saying at the weather departments: TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN

  • AND THIS IS THE FIRST ONE? OMFG

  • i work there in the summers, lol

  • I live 7 miles from where this happened. Yes, people still sometimes speak of it.

  • scenes used in intro and as an animated returning image

    1. the rescuer reaching victims on the trees

2 the male and female rescuers carrying the victim to ambulance

    3. the rescuer jumping out of the helicopter to save the female swimmer

4 finally: the Green helicopter with the cross is used as an animated image upon returning of the show.

  • I was 7 years old when this happened. I live about 23 miles from where it took place. This is something everyone here still talks about from time to time. VERY sad.

  • chorro pico puta boto
