  • I remember watching this back in 2006 and loving it.

Still amazed. You, sir, are one of the great unsung geniuses of our time.

  • Umm I don't know how someone posted that I stated this is booooring, I did not post that. I thought it was friggin' awesome (look at my post 2 months ago)! The guy did a wonderful job representing a version of what this call and response could be saying. I loved it!

  • Don't worry, it was just a response to your comment. I knew it didn't come from you. Thanks for the nice words!

  • FANTASTIC STUFF !!!!

  • I wish this would happen when my girlfriend argues with me

  • Hipster alert!!!! warning warning!

  • @electrickabuki How could I be a "hipster" when Americans don't do irony? You're confusing your stereotypes, Mr. Tally-ho pip-pip gov'.

  • @weepingprophet そうかどうでもいいは。

  • @electrickabuki this bro doesn't look like a hipster at all

  • @electrickabuki what about if you just shut the jazz up and appreciate this masterpiece of acting

  • Comment removed

  • Friggin' AWESOME! A perfect example of call and response haha! Great interpretation! Loved it.

  • @bonitadiablo booooring. hipsterize this /watch?v=CD3Q060KI28

  • @electrickabuki It's funny 'cause you're obsessed.

  • Yeah!! Certainly accurated, Jazz IS a form of language and solos ARE speeches in a way, so a 'conversation' between sax and trumpet clearly has to be looked at as a conversation! (and a very heated one if i might say). Bravo!

  • A DEEP KNOWING OF WHAT MUSIC REALLY IS!!!!!!!!!

  • haha 2:01 is so jokes!

  • Greaaaaaat !!!!!

  • @merviper - "You look cool, man. You a bassist?"

wow ... that comment is a different level of deep ...

  • @NahTekNuhCheck loooooool

  • Absolutely mad!

    ... love it ....

  • there's only one word to describe jazz people.....JAZZ

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • Ingenious! This not only proves the concept of the musical conversation, but it also furthers the idea of the musical debate!

You look cool, man. You a bassist?

  • @merviper "You look cool, man. You a bassist?"

For me (a bassist) it's about the best comment I've seen on youtube :D

  • You are nuts, but cool.

  • this guy was born to do this!!!!

  • @weepingprophet, this is genius. I am not sure if this is within your control but I am dissapointed that this clip cannot be played on mobile devices (including iPad). Can you clarify? Cheers!

  • Cómo pueden haber 119 huevones que no les guste este video!! This is great!!

  • you need a 2nd person on this. It's really something else, but to really feel the dialogue and give and take you want that second personality instead of you moving between the two roles :(

  • @Zeecarver Then you might enjoy the second version I did. watch?v=PadLkqzAVGs

  • @Zeecarver In any case, you're wrong.

  • @weepingprophet right? This is AWESOME!

  • @weepingprophet

    yeah, he is.

I thought that you doing it all by yourself is the best.

Are you a musician? Do you play jazz?

I figured that If I wanted to perform this I should learn the solos, just like when I study a solo for double bass. Then I just know all the rythmics and articulations, and it would be easy to do this, so I thought you play jazz as well.

But I also think there are other ways to do it, and maybe you don't play. Anyway, I laughed all the way through it, beautiful...

  • @Lottolearnstrings Thanks! I'm not a musician, no. And I made this video after almost ten years of listening to this track.

  • 1:08-1:17 cracks me up every time haha

  • BE against BOP..... Fantastic

  • haha I love the incoherence in the drum breaks!

  • Great!!!

  • I trully loved it!! It´s gonna be very usefull with some of my students, to show just how much of speech can be held in musical phrasing. Great work, and for the critics, its not even close to an easy task for an actor.

  • My favorite part was "Parararararraraaarraara".

  • awesome music but i really don't want to look at this guy while listening to these sweet ass tunes

  • this is amaaaaazing. you remind me of howard moon from the mighty boosh.

  • You are COOL!!!

  • I loved it. Extremely creative, funny, and just plain cool :)

  • awesome! I love it!

  • you even look jazz lol

  • As an educator, I see stuff like this as a great way to teach or introduce jazz to young people. Great job - I'd like to see more of it, especially with several actors playing (the part of) the individual instruments/players.

  • awsome, you must have spent ages on this, Time well spent :)

  • This made my day, weepingphrophet. Thanks!

  • very clever lol i like

  • geniale!!!

  • Great job!

  • You're mad and I absolutely love it!

  • How you managed to learn the movements of the rhythm of the brass amazes me dude! Love the beret, nice effect, you just need a glaring ciggy and you'll look like a proper 50s jazz-man! My favourite bit is 1:07 to 1:10, the scream, makes me actually burst out with laughter EVERY time!

  • haha oh my god this is so good. :) well done..

  • brilliant ! your a musician rite?

  • Hilarious!!!

  • when the trumpet comes in for the first time I nearly soiled myself with laughter!! What do you play?

  • thanks for making me laugh! You are truly creative :)

  • Lighten up! Most of you are jaealous. I dare you to be so creatve and so ON IT. I don't know if the guy is a musician, but FOR SURE has more rhythm than many drummers I had to work on ships for the last 10+ years.

  • man that's tight...

  • i am the 559,999 viewer.

  • EXCELLENT WORK, MARVELOUS INTERPRETATION!!! @_@

(I rarely type in all caps)

  • cool

  • Personally, myself and my fellow brethren feel this video to be utterly fucking brilliant!

  • I'm from the same tree, thanks for demonstrating to me that my condition is not unique. Good luck mate, by the way, you haven't made it unless you have a hater or two. Next, work on getting a stalker for that authentic celeb status.

  • Wow! Wonderful. I happened on this video. I've never seen this kind of adaptation to jazz before. The interpretation greatly helps me to interpret what I am hearing. Thank you for this unique and fresh work. --Herb

  • If you are taking heat for this..I hope you just blow it off..this is wonderful! It's one of my fave Parker/Dizzy tete a tetes and you just made me laugh toooo hard.

    Good luck in your career...

  • Don't listen to the naysayers man, I really enjoyed this :)

  • That was insane. Amazing!

  • This really makes me chuckle. Well done.

  • That was GREAT!

  • Very cool.

  • LOL @ the drum solo movements!

  • haha, really enjoyed this, thanks. you must have got sick of the tune by the time you learnt every entry and phrase etc.

  • wonderful, WOOONNNNDERRFULLLL!

  • VERY COOL!

Would be even greater if you could do this in duo with somebody - to act the scene out in two :)

  • Great job of lip syncing and facial expressions to some great music. Very amusing.

  • YOU ARE A GENIUS ! ! THAT'S ALL ! ! !

  • Awesome work dude! I enjoyed it!

  • Nice.

Is that Sid Bellamy on drums and Clam on bass?

  • dude thats a hilarious and unique interpretation of that song! good job! just read through some of the comments and i cant believe how much hate you're getting for doing something creative.

as for the "how does he even know it describes a dispute", well a big factor in jazz music is that the instruments quite often mimic vocal inflections. that music sure sounds like a dispute to me.

  • @WARinMYhead1 Thanks a lot!

"i cant believe how much hate you're getting for doing something creative."

It's YouTube. You're going to get those comments no matter what you do.

  • @weepingprophet - Sad, but true.

  • @WARinMYhead1 I totally agree! This is one of the best things I've seen on the youtube. It's unbelieveble this guy is not a musician! Contragutalions man!

  • Dude, that's fuckin amazing. Do Carvin' The Bird as if you were talking to a room full of excruciatingly posh people!!

  • great music, annoying face.

  • I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would have anything bad to say about it. I am a pro musician and laugh my ass off everytime I see it. This has nothing to do with musical ability, It is about flat out creativity and capturing the essence of a piece of music. Love it Love it Love it. The rest of you can bite it.

  • it's funny. :)) don't mind the haters bro, they're just disappointed at their lack of sense of humor. :)

  • wow! consider mind blown!

  • very sweel

  • how does this make youtube his life? this is a video of him doin something badass. youre a dumbass, this is a classic, awesome

  • Absolute Genius. Thank you. amazing..

  • Phenomenal. What fun! Great work. =^.^= PS disregard dem naysayers!!!

  • Thats fuckin genius! its like the parents on charlie brown havin an argument

  • Genius, made me laugh so hard, this cat hits every beat!

  • nice

  • Intriguing. True. That IS what this music is about! Thanks..

  • LMFAO!!

  • strange, although very fucking cool

  • I love when the drumsolo comes in. Makes me laugh pretty good.

  • I am showing this to a friend for the first time. I had to remind them to look at your mouth movements, to get them to apperiacte your SKILL with this video. Such a good video...my proffesor 4 years ago referenced this for whatever reason...he teaches jazz at my College...its pretty cool.

  • I've always thought as Jazz as a conversation or an argument! I love that you made this! Brilliant!!

  • Great work

  • nice work!

  • damn man, you really know your shit. It takes a lot of listening to memorize the phrasing of an entire song so well, let alone converse with it. props man, that was awesome!

  • lol you're in the YouTube Is My Life video!

    YOU SUCK!

  • In it? I, er, made it.

  • Comment removed

  • @weepingprophet

I had a suspicion that the videos you used in Youtube Is My Life were your own. Hard to recognize you here i just saw that the jazz dispute video was in YouTube Is My Life.

  • phenomenal! even to think of such a thing, much less to do it. thanks for thinking of it, and even more so for doing it. you made my day!

  • Love it, but would have been even funnier if it was two people, one interpreting Dizzy Gillespie, and the other interpreting Charlie Parker.

That, would have made it more of an actual conversation, just like the phrasing of the two musicians communicating to each other.

    :-)

  • Well I think he does that very well actually! For a one man performance he really depicts a conversation between two instruments, awesome video!

  • Yes, I completely agree with you that, for being just one person, he did an awesome job!

    Very creative!

  • Hahah awesome!

  • watching it 3rd time and still laughing my ass out. awesome!

  • fucking awesome!

  • fuckin brillant

  • Oh yeh! This is supremely and classically brilliant in every way. Brother, you've done some serious listening, but perhaps more importantly, you're insanely creative and audaciously funny and ...... blah blah blah YOU ROCK!

  • This ain't a joke, and it ain't "Something not to be wowed by";

It's a person expressing their interpretation of a great bebop chart; People do that all the time, wether its through music, or dancing, pictures, acting, or anything else.

I really like what this guy does because he does it with care and passion. From that standpoint alone, you should atleast develop a sort of respect for a person's art.

5 stars to this video and all of J mac's stuff on youtube.

  • Can you like....speak jazz?

  • simply applaudable!
