  • What kind of mods would I have to do to get more clean headroom out of it? I listened to the demo and it sounds awesome!.. just not much room for good clean tones.

  • @HellBent1337 #1 use a hammond 125ese output transformer #2 raise the pre amp plate voltages #3 use a very efficient speaker ... there is not a lot you can do with a single ended 4 watt amp ... just like you cant make a motorcycle a good dump truck LOL

  • @patfurlan This might seem like a dumb question to you, however it would be an insightful answer to me: To increase the pre amp plate voltage do I increase the resistor that is grounding?

---You do enough modding to a motorcycle, I'm sure you could do some decent hauling of garbage :)

  • @HellBent1337 no you are adjusting the resistors between the power supply caps that step the voltage down from the power amp.

  • what brand of power capacitors did you use for the 47 mfd? Also, was it at 500 volts?

  • @jonbehert the amp runs at 300 volts but I used 450 volt caps for all power supply work

  • Found it!

  • Why didnt you unplug the board and get it out of the case?

  • @eRealist because I had enough room to work & it was much faster to flip it down again and listen to the change

  • @eRealist Stupid Question. Did you post part II of this video? I cannot find it.

  • @shaindaman13 yes just click on the side bar of uploaded videos its right there

  • Hey Thanks for the video I did some of the mods on my VJ along with a few I got off the SEwatt bulletin board took a muddy flat sounding amp to something amazing. Thanks for the video It help gave me the courage to mess with mine.

  • Just did these mods - sounds great!

  • all resistors are 1/2 watt & in the end all caps were mallory 150 series

  • Great sound Pat. I bought one of these amps just to do this mod. Can you tell what the watt values are for the resistors? I used 1/2 watt for everything, but I don't know what the wattage is for R13. I don't know where to get a magic mustard cap....Are you using a Mallory in C2 and would that work in C1? Is C4 .68 or 68?

  • I've down similar mods on my EVJ with the same solder iron. I've found that the tip of that model to be to bulky for anything else. I totally killed a DS-1 pedal trying to do a keeley mod. So just a word to the wise for anyone out there, buy your iron from Radio Shack and not Lowe's as I did. Otherwise great video, I wish this was around when I messed with mine in February.

  • OK I'll admit I buy cheap soldering Irons ...

    Guilty as charged

I'm very careful not to overheat the connections & prefer the higher wattage to work faster. Yo want to make sure you have good technique and maintain the tip carefully.

  • @patfurlan Better still get a weller

  • @djworrall just like guitar ...its the technique not the tools ... but seriously yes, invest in a good Iron

  • C1 = .01, C2 = .02 , r6 = 10k, r 7 delete, r15 = 150k, R5 = 330k , C3 = remove & connect Feedback 3 meg @ 4 ohm, Power supply C6 = c9 47mfd, R13 = 4.7k optional c4 + 220 mfd (bfg), or .68 early (VH) for super lead type tone C1 +.002 dial in to suit

  • r6 is replaced with a wire or a resistor of 10k or less to prevent squealing

    R7 is also removed

  • I was going to do a bitmo mod, but I think I like this one better - more organic. Do you have a spec sheet/ parts list available?

  • I'll post a parts list an a couple of days I'm away on Business. If you want big loud and clear order the hammond 125ese output transformer.

If you want lots of dirt keep the stock OT. I use the 125ese as I gig with this amp.
