  • "Tell the cameraman that, since violence will never leave the American film, an important thing Tarantino has done is to find a way to at least make fun of violence, and that brings down the tension of violence."

  • Tarantino is the world's oldest fifteen-year-old.

  • @SirHprdgn A fifteen-year-old with a knowledge of film and a skill for filmmaking far past your own – but okay.

  • @nickn328 So I have to know how to make movies myself to be able to critique them?

  • @SirHprdgn No, but completely dismissing someone with more skill and knowledge than yourself is a little foolhardy.

  • @nickn328 "Completely dismissing?" How did you get that out of "Tarantino is the world's oldest fifteen-year-old?" I'm just saying that because he's a kind of a goofy guy and you can see it in his movies, half of which I think are very well done.

And even if I WAS completely dismissing him, I don't think I would need to be at his talent level to be able to do so. I never claimed to be at his talent level; I don't know the first thing about operating a camera.

  • @SirHprdgn Well, if you meant that, then I misunderstood. I still think it's an unfair remark, but I interpreted it incorrectly, and I apologize for that.

  • Kiarostami > Tarantino.

  • I think the Kazakh film he's referring to is "The Dove's Bell-Ringer" which Tarantino recently went on Ferguson and trashed.

  • @samarasingheclan I remember him maintaining that he loved the film on Ferguson but that the director was dismissive of him afterwards.

  • @TulseLuper Yes. except it was the producer, not the director

  • @darkshewbacca I stand corrected. My mistake.

  • @TulseLuper Yeah that's true he trashed the producer who didn't seem appreciative of the fact that he was part of the jury that had awarded the film. But he said things like "the rest of the jury fell asleep" and "there's a reason you haven't heard of it" but true he did maintain that he liked the film though he got the name of the movie and the country wrong.

  • Tarantino makes porno movies next to Kiarostami, but there is room for all types of directors in the vast world of cinema.

Like Kiarostami, i'm more interested in Tarantino the cinephile than Tarantino the director, but his choices of lately have been poor. I remember when Quentin used to get behind the great directors, like Kiarostami, Wong Kar Wai, Takeshi Kitano etc. HIs taste seems to have changed over the years, and that's unfortunate.

  • @lamentate07 I don't think his tastes have changed at all. He usually speaks of filmmakers within the context of whatever project he's promoting. So, for something like "Grindhouse," he talked a lot about B-cinema. But when he brings over a film from Asia (like "Hero") then he'll talk about Asian filmmakers like Wong Kar Wei. He doesn't really have "taste" per se. The dude likes everything. Absolutely everything.

  • @tremontirocks I can't remember the last time i heard Tarantino talk about a serious film maker. In fact, i've never heard him make one great insight about directors he supposedly loves, like Godard and Antonioni, for example, but he will prattle on forever about the greatest action scene with tits!!

He may watch everything, but what he understands and appreciates are two different things.

  • @lamentate07 If that's the case, then you aren't watching interviews with Tarantino at all. If you search YouTube for "Quentin Taraninto"+"Elvis Mitchell," the first thing that pops up is conversation where he talks about great, classic directors from Douglas Sirk and Preston Struges to Howard Hawks and so on. And this isn't rare. You're just not paying attention. Which is fine. But you're also wrong. I'd link you, but YouTube won't let me. Go watch it.

  • he can speak english

  • I could not imagine Mr.Kiarostami enjoying Quentin's films very much.

  • Why am I not surprised that Kiarostami and Tarantino may have differents tastes ? ^^

  • Im more interested in him than his movies..of course tarantino is a mediocre artist and you are a genius Mr abbas...

  • true

  • @cineasta71 Haaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha

  • wow Tarantino fans are idiots.

  • that he is, comfortable enough with himself to be naked,

  • Kiarostami is an emperor with no clothes.

  • what exactly does that mean- i'm trying to picture it in my head, to visualize the metaphor, but uh, i'm not getting much.... perhaps does it suggest that, Abbas Kiarostami is so beyond human relations that he doesn't even need to wear clothes, so evolved that he is back to his original state is a man: naked. Because, i could imagine, it takes a lot of focus and mental liberation to be able to walk around with no clothes... especially if you're an emperor. maybeyoujust meanthat hehasnobaggage...

  • ...thank god you didn't over analyze that statement...

  • pontificus: And you are a wanker without a dick. Prick.

  • If u don't like it, probably u don't know what cinema is.

  • Says the guy with the Dark Knight icon.

  • you're just satisfied with shitty tarantino films. and that's okay

  • @x666x666x666x4 your just ignorant

  • it does make some sense

  • Thanks for putting subtitles!
