I think Powell was really great in this interview. He's logical, smart, gives a very measured evaluation of both candidates. I think his message of unity from the Republican party is a good one. There should be more Republican candidates like these. Rational, intelligent, measured and decisive.
@polymathforever: i agree with that assessment. powell is an accomplished military officer and diplomat. however, i do think powell's blind defense of errant british intelligence at the united nations which proved to be the launching pad for the iraq war, was a major, unforgiveable blunder by him. i don't know how he can redeem himself, but i don't think he has yet.
gixxer: Yeah, right with that he voted for him because he's Black-BULLSHIT!
Gen Powell explained for 7 min how he arrived at his vote! Fuck you & that same old "race" bullshit!
By your logic, Gen Powell would have voted for Revs Sharpton & Jackson, Cynthia McKinney, Sheila Jackson-Lee, Carol Mosely-Braun, Shirley Chisolm ALL of whom are Black & ALL of whom ran for President! None of whom he supported!
Fuck ALL racist, xenophobes & prejudiced fools that are ruining the world! ENOUGH!
I respect Powell's service to the nation, but he should stop trying to justify his mistakes by doing the liberal thing and blaming it all on Bush. More and more he sounds like a moron who was taken advantage of by the Bush administration, not the smart general he is supposed to be. 20 years from now what Bush and Cheney did will be regarded as a great leadership moment in American history. Remember you liberal fucks that is how long it took all of you to understand how great Reagan was.
@safwan4 Exellent - loove this - we are living in one world - and have to take care of each other - no matter religion - join each other as a friend - if unfortunate u see hes not!
It's attitudes like yours that is the very reason why MANY GOP'ers jumped ship and voted for Obama. The Republicans have allowed so many racists to infiltrate and polute the Party that I'm sure Abraham Lincoln is turning in his grave. You've even succeeded in alienating one of your most popular members, Colin Powell. I don't think it's him that needs to leave the Party. It's people with attitudes like yours who are destroying the Party.and turning everybody off, that needs to leave.
gixxer1488, 1488 is the neo-nazi sign. of course you would choice the white guy and you think that everyone else thinks the same way as you do, you racist ass.
Colin Powell(no clown)was thrown under the bus driven by Cheney's foreign policy agenda, Bush's so called moral compass, and US dependence on foreign oil. His exit on the the second term was evident he could no longer put up with thier lunacy.
Little I know about American politics, I should say if this clown were to run for president against anybody, and I mean anybody, he would win but, in my opinion he is still a liar and a fabricator just like Scott Mclellen who is also supporting Barack. These guys lied to the American public and fabricated motives to go to an unjust war. Their endorsement of Barack comes as a way of getting back at their own party, because they were left without a chair when the dance was over and they got burnt.
Is thay why he went to the UN, or was it the US congress with his little propoganda vial scaring the day light out of all those pussy morons. IF I'm not mistaking he sat right next to that filthy prick the George.T former director of CIA and fabricated evidence to bomb and kill millions of poor Iraqies. I don't know how that is anti-war, as you suggest. These assholes even managed to fool Tony Blair that garbage sniffing scout munching fagot and put him as their #2 man in the Persian gulf. WTF
It's widly believed that Colin Powell was not the know the Bush/Cheney. Cheney -not Powell- influenced the CIA to produce intelligence that made the case for going to war. Powell went to the UN based on that. This guy has seen war and I don't believe he would march us into a war he didn't believe had to be fought. Since he was thrown under the bus he's pushed for reform in the intelligence community. He also had the guts to criticize when Bush did nothing during Katrina.
of all the morons to come out of ush republican years its nice to see one who i belive represents what the party should be, i am not just saying this casue he endorsed obama but becasue he gave a anwser the wasnt just pointless bickering like so many republicans (and democrats) have givin in the last 8 years. Its a shame he was almost forced out cuase he was the only person in bush;s cabinet who had a shred of moderate and insightful thinking
General Colin Powell made very good reasoning and valid points why he have chosen to vote for Barach Obama. McCain means well, however, I feel the guy for the job is Obama. He seems to know and understand the economic issues that Americans all face. Also Obama is crossing over color lines which America needs. Obama/Biden 2008!
I respect Colin Powell more now for his courage to step across the aisle and support a man who has been a civil servant since he was in his 20's. John McCain has said that Obama is an honorable man, even in his campaign. I dont know why you "naggernutz" want to associate with people who go to these McCain rallies. They yell "kill Barack", "Off with his head", "Lynch him", etc. Is this really the America that we say is just and equal? Give me a Fuc*ing break!
No and you are correct. It's not that he has strong muslim ties, it's because he consistently denies it now that he's running for president. He admits it in his books, but it's too late to get the books back now. His formative years were spent in muslim households and he even admits that. Why is he trying like hell to distance himself from his past? Jeremiah Wright, his muslim past, refusal to produce documents. The man is surrounded by controversy. Narrow minded much?
Interesting question is, why don't world leaders see McCain as a good choice for America, even he has been in public service for so long. It's because McCain's judgement is always questionable. He has guts to do what he thinks is right, but he may be too stubborn to see his errs. His view of the world has not kept up with the change. So he is in fact a bigger liability than Obama who shows the willingness to adapt and learn.
So called experiences and knowledge are overrated. A prez is always surrounded by knowledgable people, so the most important quality is judgement, knowing correct action to take and right people to use. Bush/Cheney have plenty of experiences but their judgement has been poor. To be a world leader you must have countries willing to follow your lead. American allies have been pulling away from Iraq one by one, so leadership has nothing to do with experiences but judgement.
I can't believe I'm reading this! Experience and knowledge are overrated?
On one hand you defend Obama for not having experience but surrounding himself with knowledgeable people, then turn around and criticize Bush/Cheney for the same thing? You must be still in grammar school. Bless your heart, you'll learn as you grow.
Grammer school? huh? I dont see where you got that from... But even still, we need someone new who will try to provoke change. We do not need someone like John McCain [who by the way suffers from melenoma (a deadly skin cancer), arthritis, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol] who has played the congressional game who wont end up end up getting anything done because there will be a democratic majority in the senate and house. He is a flip flopper on his own issues anyways.
I understand you want this really cool black guy to be president... far out! He's an outstanding orator. He's a great debater. BUT, he possesses neither the experience nor the knowledge to lead the free world! The man is not a leader. He has never lead anything other than his class at Harvard. These are difficult times that require experience and the knowledge to take us into the 21st century. John McCain HAS been a leader and he DOES possess the knowledge to take us forward.
arent we allowed to have religious freedom without persecution in America?
this is clearly stating that a 14 year old Islamic child growing up in Brooklyn knows that because of his religion he would never be able to be the president of america.
Imagine sitting there and thinking you could be the president as a child (as most of us did when we were children), and knowing you will never be able to have that dream because of fear and prejudice.
You're still missing my point. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with being Muslim. And yes, every Muslim child in America can aspire to be President. All I'm saying is why does he try to distance himself from his upbringing and ties to Muslims? This is what he admits! Read his books and you'll see. He can't take the books back now. The cat is out of the bag.
Point taken. Now explain, since you know the difference between a fundamental terrorist group and a mainstream religion why no other religion's fundamentalists practice terrorism. I did make a sweeping statement, but justified in saying so. Misinformed? Please explain to me and my son who is currently fighting terrorism in Afghanistan. They aren't Christians, Catholics or Jews he's fighting.
Naggernutz, yes your son is fighting against a group of people who are muslim. But does that justify your assumption that every muslim person is a terrorist? No. Don't be ignorant in your views. You remember history, right? The Crusades were a war set on by christians on islamic and jewish people. By your logic, then all christians are terrorists too. The middle east has problems, but that does not mean everyone who is muslim is a terrorist.
Great example of ancient history. The first Crusade took place from 1095 to 1099. Since then Christians have evolved just a little, and who still swears that their sole purpose is to kill every Christian, Catholic & Jew? You guessed it. And I never said that every Muslim was a terrorist. I can say that the almost overwhelming majority of terrorists are guess who? And for how long have they been doing this? Wow, over a thousand years or more? I stand by my statements. Now who's ignorant?
The people who are terrorists are extremely radical. Do not mistake being a radical terrorist with being muslim or any other religion for that matter. If you do then I pray for you because as the Bible explicitly states: "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR." and also as the lords prayer states "And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us." You are not loving your neighbor nor forgiving anyone when you create a stereotype about other people.
I am christian male myself, an I can even tell the difference between being muslim and being a terrorist. Christian folk like yourself are really setting a bad example of regular christian people. Christians would never do or say anything that would be harmful to anyone else. Plus Senator Obama is Christian and has been raised christian. There is proof behind this. What dim-witted republicans have as proof that he is muslim is his picture where he is dressed in a kenyan robe, which looks muslim.
Jesus! How can you deny the man's upbringing? His father was a Muslim, His entire family on his father's side is Muslim. His stepfather was a Muslim and Barack spent his formative years in Indonesia living within a Muslim household! How can you deny his Muslim ties when the man admits it HIMSELF in his own books? Wow, I can't believe how you people deny the obvious and what the man himself admits!
Naggernutz, your theories are flawed because even though he does have family members who are muslim, it is not the religion that he grew up in. He grew up going to church. Plus, did you forget about that stupid stuff with Rev. Wright?
Stulander, you need to quit before you make yourself look any worse. I can't believe you support the man and have to balls to mention him and Jeremiah Wright in the same sentence! Remember, he's trying to distance himself from Wright. Now, after 20 years of "amens" and "hallejujahs" in Wright's church, he says he doesn't agree with Wright? NOW? After 20 years? Kinda slow to react wouldn't you say?
Obama has been completely open about his relationship with his pastor, you choose to interpret this in your own prejudiced way if you like but it's the truth.
He's not trying desperately to distance himself from his past, he's simply not talking about parts of his early life that have had no influence over his current beliefs and outlook.
Listen to your ex-Commander in Chief for crying out loud, he's got it absolutely right.
He's completely open about it because he can't deny it now. It's too late for that. And for someone running for president that doesn't want to be TOTALLY open about his past, is hiding something that he himself knows is derogatory.
And which Commander-In-Chief are you referring to? Colin Powell was never Commander-In-Chief. He was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Funny, he donated to John McCain a year ago, now he changes his mind? Very strange.
Not sure what you are insinuating, but not surprised that you are trying to do so. Mirroring the negative and scare-mongering Republican campaign, it's about the only straw you have left to pull.
Derogatory? Why? Listen to what he has to say about it, he is very, very clear.
You backing a vice-president who thinks humans walked the Earth with dinosaurs?
Naggernutz, you were trying to tell me that barack obama is muslim. All I did was point out that he is christian and provide proof that he goes to church. Oh yeah, and in reguards to the Rev. Wright thing: EVERY PERSON WHO HAS GONE TO THAT CHURCH HAS SAID THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD THE REVEREND SAY ANYTHING LIKE WHAT HE SAID WHEN BARACK BECAME THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE. Period. Go and research that yourself.
The robe was put on because he was visiting his father in Kenya and it was needed for a ceremony. Thats it. Does that make him muslim? NO. Republican campaign tactics are so ridiculous because all they do is spread lies about people to make ignorant people like you believe what they want you to believe so that you vote for them. Its sad. 4 years ago, republicans took a decorated war hero (John Kerry) and made him out to be an army drop-out who got scared when he was faced with combat. Pathetic!
Thanks for the ancient history lesson. Don't be afraid of Islam? A religion dedicated to wiping every Christian and Jew off the face of the earth? You must be Al Qaeda! Can any of you Obamatards tell me where Joe Biden slipped off to after making his now famous promise that we're going to be tested with an International crisis? Or how about Michelle Obama. She hasn't uttered a word since her "for the first time in my life, I'm proud to be an American" speech?
Indeed, Colin Powell provides a thoughtful argument on why we need to vote for Barack Obama. For sure Obama is calling for an inclusive America where every ethnic and religious group is given a voice and an opportunity to participate in the American. Colin Powell's endorsement is, indeed, a blessing and a confirmation.
Until recently I was one undecided voter but seeing the endorsement of people like Powell makes me think Obama actually does change things and unites people. Powell and Condoleeza Rice (for that matter) are very intelligent people. It has been a shame to waste their intelligence on Bush. It's almost like they've had to conform and limit themselves and they didn't get to use their intelligence for the benefit of this country. Working for the wrong person!
To all Demacrats. Please do not rely on the polls. Republicans are good at playing politics, and it wounld not surprise me if Republicans called in to give false information for the polls just so we could relax. Dont be fooled! Get out to vote early and get as many people as you can to get out and vote. And please dont be discouraged by long lines. Stick it through, and we will prevail in the end. You can bet the Republicans will do the same, if not more.
if everything that obama says is true, then everything mccain says is true... you're just eating up his(obama) words...democrats play the polician card just as frequently as republicans. i.e. obama ads on every other commericial...no mccain ads...biased tv??
u need to prpare yourself for an obama landslide vitory....obama gets 54% and 330 electoral votes on nov 4th....i just hope the idiots of the GOP bring PALIN back for an encore in 2012...if Palin is on the GOP ticket in 2012, the GOP wont get 40% in 2012.
i think we've seen the last of Palin...after nov 4th, we'll never see or hear from her again, unless u live in alaska, (i dont)....maybe she will show up on a REALITY TV show in 6 months...with a cast of 10 other HAS-BEENS.
Powell wasnt clear in his response. All he said was something about Robocalls and republicans defense in this election. Sorry but politics has always been about bashing the other opponent. When you switch party's I think you should at least say something about your ideology. Bush in his administration did a lot of privitization and wanted to also exhibit that to the rest of the world. Does he not believe that anymore? Should we emphasize on stronger unions and more powerful social programs?
You need a soundbite? To paraphrase: the integrity, honor, intelligence and temperment to be president has not been displayed by McCain or the Republican party as of late and based upon McCain's actions. Those are undeniable facts. And for the good of the country Powell is going to be the Maverick break with his party and endorse the candidate who exuded the characteristics of someone worthy of the presidency and you have a problem with THAT?!!
Luckily we are BEYOND the age of McCarthy and good riddance. The Republican Party and their despicable unAmerican tactics to deny American citizen's voting rights invalidated any argument you could possibly make. You wanna vote Rep despite their dismal actions that's your CHOICE but don't try to deny another's right to vote then stand on some stool of self righteous because No one is buying what a McCain/Palin ticket is selling. If you can't win or lose with honor you shouldn't be running.
Oh you mean honor like McCain dumping his first wife for a new shiny rich one? or peddling his influence in the Keating 5. Look flyboy got his wings cuz of family connections and he's been called out by at LEAST two generals on his ability. He suffered during his incarceration. No doubt but that does NOT automatically a decent president make. Based upon those events he doesn't seem to have learned much aside from play the veteran card while voting against benefits. It takes more then honor.
Mr. Powell speaks better than McCain or Obama. Though I cannot forget how he showed those powerpoint slides in the UN about the WMDs in Iraq, the last part in this monologue was excellent.
There were no "ahh..", "er.." or any pauses. Everything spoken from heart and frustration perhaps?
I think that was said to appease others in the respect category.
I do not want a PRESIDENT who says BOMB BOMB BOMB, BOMB IRAN.. OR a VP, possibly a Defacto President who is part of Alaska Independence Party, or who says we'll bomb Iran.. Please people do your research.
You have to back up that assertion with facts... and you have none because then how do you explain any black person voting for McCain and there are plenty. And how do you explain black people voting for hillary in the primary?
There is something that is of a higher "loyalty" and that is...to your country. General Powell rocks and he is dead on RIGHT!! No more divisiveness. We are one America and we need to come together as Americans to solve the problems of today. We don't need hate, racism, intolerance or bigotry as American "values". Colin Powell is a true American.
BO is just a fast talking pretty boy. He is not qualified to run this country. Point blank. John McCain belongs on Mt Rushmore; but, he has one foot on a banana peel. Palin? OMG! 4 more years of the Rep. platform? What the Hell r we supposed to do? I was a grunt 89-93; but, now i no longer have any respect for CP. He ditched his party. No loyalty.
Loyalty? Loyalty is putting your ass in the line of fire, not blindly following a political party. Having the guts to buck your party takes guts, but also takes loyalty to a higher calling. Higher than anyone's particular party, but loyalty to country first, then to a party. I don't know about you, but I'd like to think we're American's first and Dems and Reps. second.
You contradict yourself in your comment, Delbert. You imply that we can't endure(survive?) 4 more years of the Republican platform, and express doubt about Palin. Then you say you can't respect Powell for criticizing that very platform, his lack of faith in Palin, and his strong belief that McCain made a huge mistake in choosing her for VP. He "ditched his party" because of all those things. He's supposed to remain "loyal" to a party whose policies and choices he doesnt believe in?
Have you seen the Sarah Palin Rap by mixmastermw it's pretty good? There are some out there that are lame, but this one is an actual music video not somebody trying to rap
Powell publicly acknowledged he was wrong in his decision about the Iraq war. He expressed his anger at being misinformed which he had based his decision on.
Michael Powell has endorsed McCain! Colin Powells endorsement of Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, has put him at odds with his own son, former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Michael Powell.
Michael Powell has endorsed McCain! Colin Powells endorsement of Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, has put him at odds with his own son, former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Michael Powell.
Its a double standard you idiot! Your the one who says that if you dont vote Obama your racist. What about the black people voting for Obama just because he is black. You forget about that? Colin Powell was George Bush's secretary of state and the biggest Republican and your telling me that he didn't just vote for Obama because he is black? Come on wake up dumbass he can say all he wants but its pretty obvious why hes really voting for him. Fuckin liberal bitch.
If that is the case; ask yourself why did blacks vote for all those white president before? Color has nothing to do with it; if that was the case blacks would have never voted.
Did i talk about all blacks. No i was referring to Colin Powell. How can you be a Republican president's secretary of state and then all of a sudden switch to a democrat. Come on! Obama has completely different policies then he believes in. I'd think it would be pretty obvious why he really switched. Im just tired of hearing the bullshit your racist if you dont vote Obama from dumbass liberals. Its goes both ways but liberals are too stupid to see that and im probly voting Obama.
before the endorsement i heard from every right wing nuts telling me they were not racists they just didn't like obama because he was a liberal socialist bla..bla..and they pointed to colin powell as an exemple of an african american they will vote for president!
now that the general endorsed obama, they say he is a dumb ass and he did that just because obama is black!
That makes no sense asshole. Do you think they knew that Powell was going to switch and just because somebody doesnt vote for Obama doesnt mean there racist you fuckin liberal pussy. I was gonna vote for Mccain but realized that hes the same as Bush and i wasnt racist you prick. Now im voting for Obama to see what happens but i just wanted to let you know that your a little liberal bitch and dumbass liberals like you dont realize that black people can do racist things to like Powell did.
mick0093>>>>you fucking idiot who the fuck told you that what colin powell did was racist????you are in his mind???he gave the reasons why he votes obama! you are thwe fucking ass hole who massumes that he is lying!
It's interesting to see people characterizing Powell as an honorable man for endorsing the same candidate they support. How quickly we forget that this is the same person who peddled two wars in Iraq to the American public.
And it's interesting that despite his disagreements with Obama on actual issues like Iraq, Powell felt that a president is better chosen on eloquence, "style", being a "transitional figure", and other intangibles.
I'm not saying his choice is wrong, but his reasoning is.
It's sad to see the political discourse in the greatest country ever has stooped to such levels. Mr. Powell is a true patriot, a real American Hero. The winner of the first Gulf War, former National Security Adviser, Joint Chief of Staff, and Secretary of State. To label him a traitor is in itself a treason of the worse kind. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. What Mr. Powell says about McCain, Obama, and in particular, Muslims is what has made this country the greatest ever in human history.
For all those "WHO DIDNT SEE THIS COMING" posters -- actually, many did not. Powell has strong ties to the Republican Party and to Senator John McCain. I thought for sure he would be endorsing McCain. This comes as a surprise to me, although I have to say that I am in agreement with what Gen. Colon Powell states in his interview. I am an independent and I too will be voting for Senator Barack Obama.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He is a traitor because he acts like he believes in conservative beliefs and he obviously dosent. He says that Mccain dose not act like he knows how to fix the economy. Then Obama doesent know how to fix it either. One of the reasons for this recession is this damn election. Why dont you stop saying the same thing as everyone else does about Fox. All media is liberal even Fox.
Traitor? Thats just ridiculous...This man stood against his own party (a real Maverick) in which hes worked in many republican administraions ..He made a decision based on what he feels is absolutely the best for our country, and I applaud him for that...You should take that idiotic talk to some damn conservative hate blog
Oh I get it you say Powell is a traitor because you think he should have said what your limited scope of intelligence is thinking. I find it ironic that because Powell appeared on Fox that you call them the liberal media now. Please! Your whining it's the Liberal media's fault is just an excuse for Republican's failures. It's simple, not ONLY is McCain a bad choice Obama is a VERY good choice. You missed your chance to witchhunt during the McCarthy years.
Mccarthy was a savior in some aspects. You start taking away peoples private rights, there will be someone right there to fight back. I say fox is Liberal because they are. All media is Liberal. Look up the def of Liberal by Mills. Powell is a traitor because he dosent say anything about his former ideology, but just bashes his former party, without acknowledging that it was his problem also, which is cowardice. The only reason why Powell did this is because he wants a job.
You lost me at McCarthy was a savior... what he did was racial profiling. And I don't know what interview you were watching but Powell was very clear in his reasoning and nuanced response. This is not about labels it's not about Rethuglicans or Democrats. It's about AMERICA and you need to understand that. The minute Republicans started purging and supressing votes of American citizens because Republicans don't like how some people vote is the minute they became UN-American. Prepare to be pwned
How was it racial profiling. Anything about race was even brought up back then because it was the 50's. It was about the Great Society and New Deal Liberalism. Truman and FDR, tried to build a better society and was somewhat fashioned as marxist and socialist. Mccarthy fought against that. Mccain is just trying to state that Americans dont really no about Obama and people really need to think about his affairs in the past. Americans are just putting their "faith" in some suppose new "Savior."
Sorry my profiling was in regards to Japanese interment another topic, McCarthyism much like the tactics for the Patriot Act were pretty much the same. Label those who don't agree with you undesirable and try to ruin any resistance to get people to fall in line. You talk about Obama who tells people they are the change they are waiting for not him. And you want to compare that to Joe who used fears, lie and paranoia. And you think I'M the one who's misinformed?
Sir, I understand what you said about Muslims being Americans. And in a perfect world, yes, being Muslim should not be a problem. But here's my question to you. When was the last time a Catholic or a Methodist or Baptist or Jew high-jacked an airliner and flew it into the WTC? How many Episcopalians or Lutherans have taken captives and cut off their heads on video to broadcast to the world?
I don't know what denomination he was. He didn't fly a plane into the WTC or cut peoples heads off did he? He, being one individual and not a group as I was referring to, was getting even with the Clinton Administration and Janet Reno for the murder of innocent men, women and children at the Branch Davidian complex in Waco and the Ruby Ridge incident.
Oh, he didn't use an airplane to destroy a building full of innocent people. He used a truck. Big difference. NOT.
McVeigh was GLAD when he saw that the building had a daycare center in it because he figured dead children would increase the publicity he got. Hello? He was a horrible nut, just like the 9/11 hijackers were horrible nuts. And horrible nuts come in all shapes, sizes, colors, nationalities and religions.
I asked how many Methodists, Catholics, Baptists, etc, flew planes into the WTC or captured people and chopped off their heads. You named one person ONE. He did that because of Clinton appointee Janet Reno, for the murders of innocent men , women and children at the Branch Davidian complex in Waco & the Ruby Ridge incident. I'm not saying he was right, so please don't try to confuse the question. I'm simply saying that Muslims are responsible for more terror than any other group in the world.
Let's see. Timothy McVeigh blew up buildings in Oklahoma and he was a white guy and a christian. The Palin's were associated with a group that wanted to secede Alaska from the U.S. So let's not throw stones in glass houses.
Yeah, and should we consider Timothy McVeigh as a good representative of the American people? You need to learn that there is a difference between fundamentalists and muslims.
Have you ever heard of the Crusades? Inquisitions? Witch burnings? The most murder in human history comes from people who claimed to believe in the most peaceful of men, Jesus. It's very easy for any government to promote a fear agenda so they can start wars, and we happen to be in the youtube era, so milions can hear a wrong message and believe it, things like "Obama is a Muslim or Terrorist" If you don't have a enemy, there is no war, and nobody gets rich.
Colin Powell has serve this country for two presidents..as ablack man i had no opinion of him because i was under the impression that he spoke not for me but more so for Bush this last administration, also he was the only back man that refuse to run for the white house even tho his party ( republicans ) wanted to endorse him. Hearing him say what he did in this interview opened my eyes. He gave an unbias commentary on his party's tough campaign strategy.
Damn! I wasn't going to vote for him but now that I know he talks like J.J. Walker from Good Times, I'm DEFINITELY gonna vote for him now! Thanks for helping me make up my mind.
You are too funny, just talking about gaining some perspective about some of the things that went on without our knowledge. No need to be nasty, sounds like you are BITTER, are you educated, one wonders????????? Doesn't sound like it based on your response!!!
We all know that then CIA chief and the white house altered his report on the morning of that meeting.I was baffled when Tom asked him if he endorsed Obama just because he is black, I was insulted.
Colin Powell is an honorable American who understands what it takes to keep American safe, as a secretary his job was to sell to the American people and the world what ever Bush's administration wants. That's exactly the role he played at the united nations when he told the world that Sadamm has WMD.
You are a McCarthyite and a cancer. You are the child of the mob mentality. You are the guy that hides among us waiting to lynch whom you disagree with. So why not leave the discussion to the adults and crawl back to the dark corner of the internet you crawled out of and whack yourself off with your visions of rape and innocence defiled.
If anybody wants to form an argument about a self named "hockey mum" being able to run the USA then i think that they have watch too much movies, I'm sorry that because Obama is black all about him has to be negative. By the way powell is a republican hence his role in Iraq war however even he has a brain hence him voting for Obama he is not doing this just because he is black he is doing this because he thinks Obama is better than McCain.Stop the negativityand grow up!!!
I went to see W. this weekend, I clearly understand now why Colin Powell left the administration that treated him like a rented mule; and I clearly understand why is is all about Obama.
Could anymore have been more clear and concise and give reason after reason after reason (without one pause) as to why Obama is the superior canididate??? God love Colin and God love Obama/Biden!
I hope you didnt take too much stock in the accuracy of W. Director Oliver Stone is well known for inaccurately portraying people in his biopics. IE The Doors.
Dont think I dont support Obama, because I do, but W. is not good info to go off of.
Extremely clear why McCain and the GOP have goofed the last 8 years. Time for a change to make our country the greatest ever. Thanks, Gen. Colin for speaking up.
Colin Powell was a scapegoat for the Bush administration, and for that I see him as very weak. But it doesn't mean anything one way or another for Obama because it all depends on WHAT Obama will take from Powell as one of his advisors.
HA ha r u retarted.. No classes? Thats for people who r lazy and who dont want to work hard to be somebody and get jealous of the rich.. What do u think the AMerican dream is about u fucking moron.. Lets all just get paid the same for being a bum or being a CEO of business..Ha ha yeah right u lazy shit-head. Plus if u dont want youtube anymore why r u commenting and watching videos on it.. God, go eat ur peanut butter sandwich and think of some more stupid shit to say..
This country is built on stepping on the heads of others, by balancing the rich with the poor. Some reign and others suffer. While there are clearly those who are lazy and dont want to do anything but blame others for their lack of income there are those who truly CANNOT get any because of others. While the rich in turn could be someone who worked hard or someone who won a lottery. Its all like one big lottery in this country, some may win and some may lose but wherever they are they deserve it?
There was a video about Colin endorsing Obama and there was a lot of negative but respectfull remarks, as mine was. Its been pulled! I wonder why? Colin Powell here thinks Palin wasn't experienced to be VP. She has been an executive leader for about 14 years. But Obama with 7 years as a state and U.S. senator, he has more experience to be President? Black is more important than all other reasons to support Obama, maybe you as a black leader may want to be a democrat like 92% of your fellow blacks
your statement doesn't make sense. Youtube postings have greatly helped Obama and Foxnews has hurt him greatly. Why would he close both. I could understand you saying he will close Foxnews, and if you're making a bad joke that he would stop freedom on youtube well again that doesn't make sense because it again has helped him.
God i i i i i i'm so excited (i'm stuttering) i just hope Obama doesnt flop as a president. i feel like a woman who's getting married on Nov 4, whose honeymoon ends Jan 20 and marriage begins thereafter. long metaphor short: i hope he (the marriage)lives up to the hype!
harekrishna123 You are a faggot loving baby killer supporter. You deal death to more babies than a hard working man such as I who provides health insurance for his own family. Want Helth Insurance, scumbag? Get a job and work. Get off the foodstamps and welfare at the same time reduce the taxes. But that won't happen under a new liberal faggot loving, baby killing president. You know nothing about me and nothing about my education...I know plenty about yours. It is very clear.
I just wrote out a more complete response, but it didn't go through for some reason. I don't have the energy to repeat my response on a loser like you. If you got a better education than me (which you didn't), why don't you know that the vast majority of uninsured Americans ALREADY HAVE JOBS AND WORK. You really just need to buy a machine gun and go to town on some folks with your irrational anger.

It was Colin Powell's Faulty Intelligence and Faulty Integrity That led the US to War in Iraq. Remember, everyone was agreeing that his integrity was untouchable. The President and the US Military trusted him.
Powell kept talking about large mobile Chemical trucks that somehow were never found.

YES Mr Powell !!! There is something wrong with a Muslim being a US President in this day and age. In case you didn't know it we are at war with a group of muslims that can't be trusted. We need Obama to admit he is a muslim to stop the accusations. Believe me when I tell you this... His Muslim Brethren are up in arms over his refusal to admit his Islamic faith. He has slipped a few times and it causes great concern. You don't know him as well as you think you do. Just wait and see.

Naggernutz: Just because there are Muslims in your family doesn't precondition you to be a follower of Islam yourself. Uneducated much?
ecctopcd 3 years ago
No and you are correct. It's not that he has strong muslim ties, it's because he consistently denies it now that he's running for president. He admits it in his books, but it's too late to get the books back now. His formative years were spent in muslim households and he even admits that. Why is he trying like hell to distance himself from his past? Jeremiah Wright, his muslim past, refusal to produce documents. The man is surrounded by controversy. Narrow minded much?
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
Interesting question is, why don't world leaders see McCain as a good choice for America, even he has been in public service for so long. It's because McCain's judgement is always questionable. He has guts to do what he thinks is right, but he may be too stubborn to see his errs. His view of the world has not kept up with the change. So he is in fact a bigger liability than Obama who shows the willingness to adapt and learn.
HellMarauder 3 years ago
So called experiences and knowledge are overrated. A prez is always surrounded by knowledgable people, so the most important quality is judgement, knowing correct action to take and right people to use. Bush/Cheney have plenty of experiences but their judgement has been poor. To be a world leader you must have countries willing to follow your lead. American allies have been pulling away from Iraq one by one, so leadership has nothing to do with experiences but judgement.
HellMarauder 3 years ago
I can't believe I'm reading this! Experience and knowledge are overrated?
On one hand you defend Obama for not having experience but surrounding himself with knowledgeable people, then turn around and criticize Bush/Cheney for the same thing? You must be still in grammar school. Bless your heart, you'll learn as you grow.
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
Grammer school? huh? I dont see where you got that from... But even still, we need someone new who will try to provoke change. We do not need someone like John McCain [who by the way suffers from melenoma (a deadly skin cancer), arthritis, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol] who has played the congressional game who wont end up end up getting anything done because there will be a democratic majority in the senate and house. He is a flip flopper on his own issues anyways.
Stulander347 3 years ago
I understand you want this really cool black guy to be president... far out! He's an outstanding orator. He's a great debater. BUT, he possesses neither the experience nor the knowledge to lead the free world! The man is not a leader. He has never lead anything other than his class at Harvard. These are difficult times that require experience and the knowledge to take us into the 21st century. John McCain HAS been a leader and he DOES possess the knowledge to take us forward.

EVEN IF HE IS A MUSLIM, why would that matter?
arent we allowed to have religious freedom without persecution in America?
this is clearly stating that a 14 year old Islamic child growing up in Brooklyn knows that because of his religion he would never be able to be the president of america.
Imagine sitting there and thinking you could be the president as a child (as most of us did when we were children), and knowing you will never be able to have that dream because of fear and prejudice.
sad
Blakeasdf 3 years ago 2
You're still missing my point. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with being Muslim. And yes, every Muslim child in America can aspire to be President. All I'm saying is why does he try to distance himself from his upbringing and ties to Muslims? This is what he admits! Read his books and you'll see. He can't take the books back now. The cat is out of the bag.
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
Point taken. Now explain, since you know the difference between a fundamental terrorist group and a mainstream religion why no other religion's fundamentalists practice terrorism. I did make a sweeping statement, but justified in saying so. Misinformed? Please explain to me and my son who is currently fighting terrorism in Afghanistan. They aren't Christians, Catholics or Jews he's fighting.
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
Naggernutz, yes your son is fighting against a group of people who are muslim. But does that justify your assumption that every muslim person is a terrorist? No. Don't be ignorant in your views. You remember history, right? The Crusades were a war set on by christians on islamic and jewish people. By your logic, then all christians are terrorists too. The middle east has problems, but that does not mean everyone who is muslim is a terrorist.
Stulander347 3 years ago
Great example of ancient history. The first Crusade took place from 1095 to 1099. Since then Christians have evolved just a little, and who still swears that their sole purpose is to kill every Christian, Catholic & Jew? You guessed it. And I never said that every Muslim was a terrorist. I can say that the almost overwhelming majority of terrorists are guess who? And for how long have they been doing this? Wow, over a thousand years or more? I stand by my statements. Now who's ignorant?
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
The people who are terrorists are extremely radical. Do not mistake being a radical terrorist with being muslim or any other religion for that matter. If you do then I pray for you because as the Bible explicitly states: "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR." and also as the lords prayer states "And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us." You are not loving your neighbor nor forgiving anyone when you create a stereotype about other people.
Stulander347 3 years ago
I am christian male myself, an I can even tell the difference between being muslim and being a terrorist. Christian folk like yourself are really setting a bad example of regular christian people. Christians would never do or say anything that would be harmful to anyone else. Plus Senator Obama is Christian and has been raised christian. There is proof behind this. What dim-witted republicans have as proof that he is muslim is his picture where he is dressed in a kenyan robe, which looks muslim.
Stulander347 3 years ago
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago

If you'll go back and read my previous comments, you'll see that I've answered this question already.
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
Naggernutz, your theories are flawed because even though he does have family members who are muslim, it is not the religion that he grew up in. He grew up going to church. Plus, did you forget about that stupid stuff with Rev. Wright?
Stulander347 3 years ago
Stulander, you need to quit before you make yourself look any worse. I can't believe you support the man and have to balls to mention him and Jeremiah Wright in the same sentence! Remember, he's trying to distance himself from Wright. Now, after 20 years of "amens" and "hallejujahs" in Wright's church, he says he doesn't agree with Wright? NOW? After 20 years? Kinda slow to react wouldn't you say?
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
Obama has been completely open about his relationship with his pastor, you choose to interpret this in your own prejudiced way if you like but it's the truth.
He's not trying desperately to distance himself from his past, he's simply not talking about parts of his early life that have had no influence over his current beliefs and outlook.
Listen to your ex-Commander in Chief for crying out loud, he's got it absolutely right.
ruud76 3 years ago
He's completely open about it because he can't deny it now. It's too late for that. And for someone running for president that doesn't want to be TOTALLY open about his past, is hiding something that he himself knows is derogatory.
And which Commander-In-Chief are you referring to? Colin Powell was never Commander-In-Chief. He was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Funny, he donated to John McCain a year ago, now he changes his mind? Very strange.
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
Not sure what you are insinuating, but not surprised that you are trying to do so. Mirroring the negative and scare-mongering Republican campaign, it's about the only straw you have left to pull.
Derogatory? Why? Listen to what he has to say about it, he is very, very clear.
You backing a vice-president who thinks humans walked the Earth with dinosaurs?
ruud76 3 years ago
not strange at all. McCain isn't anything like he was a year ago.

Stulander347 3 years ago
The robe was put on because he was visiting his father in Kenya and it was needed for a ceremony. Thats it. Does that make him muslim? NO. Republican campaign tactics are so ridiculous because all they do is spread lies about people to make ignorant people like you believe what they want you to believe so that you vote for them. Its sad. 4 years ago, republicans took a decorated war hero (John Kerry) and made him out to be an army drop-out who got scared when he was faced with combat. Pathetic!

Indeed, Colin Powell provides a thoughtful argument on why we need to vote for Barack Obama.

Vaplayacometoplay 3 years ago
You need a soundbite? To paraphrase: the integrity, honor, intelligence and temperment to be president has not been displayed by McCain or the Republican party as of late and based upon McCain's actions. Those are undeniable facts. And for the good of the country Powell is going to be the Maverick break with his party and endorse the candidate who exuded the characteristics of someone worthy of the presidency and you have a problem with THAT?!!

You wanna vote Rep despite their dismal actions that's your CHOICE but don't try to deny another's right to vote then stand on some stool of self righteous because No one is buying what a McCain/Palin ticket is selling. Loyalty? Loyalty is putting your ass in the line of fire, not blindly following a political party. Having the guts to buck your party takes guts, but also takes loyalty to a higher calling. Higher than anyone's particular party, but loyalty to country first, then to a party. I don't know about you, but I'd like to think we're American's first and Dems and Reps. second.

Fuckin liberal bitch.
mick0093 3 years ago
If that is the case; ask yourself why did blacks vote for all those white president before? Color has nothing to do with it; if that was the case blacks would have never voted.

Did i talk about all blacks. No i was referring to Colin Powell. How can you be a Republican president's secretary of state and then all of a sudden switch to a democrat. Come on! Obama has completely different policies then he believes in. I'd think it would be pretty obvious why he really switched. Im just tired of hearing the bullshit your racist if you dont vote Obama from dumbass liberals. Its goes both ways but liberals are too stupid to see that and im probly voting Obama.

you conservatives dumb asses make me laugh!
before the endorsement i heard from every right wing nuts telling me they were not racists they just didn't like obama because he was a liberal socialist bla..bla..and they pointed to colin powell as an exemple of an african american they will vote for president!

Vaplayacometoplay 3 years ago
Traitor? Thats just ridiculous...This man stood against his own party (a real Maverick) in which hes worked in many republican administraions ..He made a decision based on what he feels is absolutely the best for our country, and I applaud him for that...You should take that idiotic talk to some damn conservative hate blog
pimpjuice9304 3 years ago 4
Oh I get it you say Powell is a traitor because you think he should have said what your limited scope of intelligence is thinking. I find it ironic that because Powell appeared on Fox that you call them the liberal media now. Please! Your whining it's the Liberal media's fault is just an excuse for Republican's failures. It's simple, not ONLY is McCain a bad choice Obama is a VERY good choice. You missed your chance to witchhunt during the McCarthy years.
larueprod 3 years ago
Mccarthy was a savior in some aspects. You start taking away peoples private rights, there will be someone right there to fight back. I say fox is Liberal because they are. All media is Liberal. Look up the def of Liberal by Mills. Powell is a traitor because he dosent say anything about his former ideology, but just bashes his former party, without acknowledging that it was his problem also, which is cowardice. The only reason why Powell did this is because he wants a job.
Vaplayacometoplay 3 years ago
You lost me at McCarthy was a savior... what he did was racial profiling. And I don't know what interview you were watching but Powell was very clear in his reasoning and nuanced response. This is not about labels it's not about Rethuglicans or Democrats. It's about AMERICA and you need to understand that. The minute Republicans started purging and supressing votes of American citizens because Republicans don't like how some people vote is the minute they became UN-American. Prepare to be pwned
larueprod 3 years ago
How was it racial profiling. Anything about race was even brought up back then because it was the 50's. It was about the Great Society and New Deal Liberalism. Truman and FDR, tried to build a better society and was somewhat fashioned as marxist and socialist. Mccarthy fought against that. Mccain is just trying to state that Americans dont really no about Obama and people really need to think about his affairs in the past. Americans are just putting their "faith" in some suppose new "Savior."
Vaplayacometoplay 3 years ago
Sorry my profiling was in regards to Japanese interment another topic, McCarthyism much like the tactics for the Patriot Act were pretty much the same. Label those who don't agree with you undesirable and try to ruin any resistance to get people to fall in line. You talk about Obama who tells people they are the change they are waiting for not him. And you want to compare that to Joe who used fears, lie and paranoia. And you think I'M the one who's misinformed?
larueprod 3 years ago
I think folks misunderstood my statement was in SUPPORT of Powell. If you notice my previous statement was in the form of a question.
larueprod 3 years ago
To Mr Colin Powell:
Sir, I understand what you said about Muslims being Americans. And in a perfect world, yes, being Muslim should not be a problem. But here's my question to you. When was the last time a Catholic or a Methodist or Baptist or Jew high-jacked an airliner and flew it into the WTC? How many Episcopalians or Lutherans have taken captives and cut off their heads on video to broadcast to the world?
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
What was Timothy McVeigh?
Buptoon 3 years ago
I don't know what denomination he was. He didn't fly a plane into the WTC or cut peoples heads off did he? He, being one individual and not a group as I was referring to, was getting even with the Clinton Administration and Janet Reno for the murder of innocent men, women and children at the Branch Davidian complex in Waco and the Ruby Ridge incident.
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
Oh, he didn't use an airplane to destroy a building full of innocent people. He used a truck. Big difference. NOT.
McVeigh was GLAD when he saw that the building had a daycare center in it because he figured dead children would increase the publicity he got. Hello? He was a horrible nut, just like the 9/11 hijackers were horrible nuts. And horrible nuts come in all shapes, sizes, colors, nationalities and religions.
Buptoon 3 years ago
I asked how many Methodists, Catholics, Baptists, etc, flew planes into the WTC or captured people and chopped off their heads. You named one person ONE. He did that because of Clinton appointee Janet Reno, for the murders of innocent men , women and children at the Branch Davidian complex in Waco & the Ruby Ridge incident. I'm not saying he was right, so please don't try to confuse the question. I'm simply saying that Muslims are responsible for more terror than any other group in the world.
NAGGERNUTZ 3 years ago
You are grouping a large population of people and their beliefs based on what some fanatical followers did.
Example:
Hitler was a Roman Catholic. His mother a Jew.
See my point. It makes no sense like your argument about all Muslims.
Why don't you just spread your wings and let your religious and racial hatred obvious. Afraid of seeing your true beliefs?
Billzebub69 3 years ago 3
Let's see. Timothy McVeigh blew up buildings in Oklahoma and he was a white guy and a christian. The Palin's were associated with a group that wanted to secede Alaska from the U.S. So let's not throw stones in glass houses.
larueprod 3 years ago 2
Yeah, and should we consider Timothy McVeigh as a good representative of the American people? You need to learn that there is a difference between fundamentalists and muslims.
delbow 3 years ago
And all those Catholics sure like little boys, don't they?
mcquestion 3 years ago
Have you ever heard of the Crusades? Inquisitions? Witch burnings? The most murder in human history comes from people who claimed to believe in the most peaceful of men, Jesus. It's very easy for any government to promote a fear agenda so they can start wars, and we happen to be in the youtube era, so milions can hear a wrong message and believe it, things like "Obama is a Muslim or Terrorist" If you don't have a enemy, there is no war, and nobody gets rich.

Colin Powell is an honorable American who understands what it takes to keep American safe, as a secretary his job was to sell to the American people and the world what ever Bush's administration wants. That's exactly the role he played at the united nations when he told the world that Sadamm has WMD.
