I love this ending. One, because it's not the usual conventional Hollywood ending, e.g., the hero gets the girl and they end up kissing in the rain. Two, because it is SO MUCH BETTER than the usual conventional Hollywood ending. Even though it's not revealed whether or not Will and Skylar end up together in the end, you sort of know in the back of your mind that they do anyway. Alas, the magic of this movie is unexplainable...

Now that Elliott Smith is deceased, this movie has a much more sentimental meaning. For many, it was the first time they had heard of Smith's music, but certainly not the last. You add in the fact that the movie was amazing (probably one of the best in the past 20 years given the cast, plot, MUSIC, setting, etc.) and it really speaks for itself. This movie has a deeper meaning than the other '97 hit Titanic. They will be showing GWH in classrooms for years to come, not Titanic.
