@DJRail3751 Hi David, That lever is to turn on/off the cylinder cocks.. You can see the steam coming out from the bottom of the cylinders when I open them.. This is to expel any water from the cylinders, so they won't "lock-up"
hi, im 12 and relly loving live steam for the past 2 years. i relly want to buy a small loco in which i can afford. mayb under 2 grande. i know this is alot to ask for but if anyone knows of a company that sells kits around that price, please let me know
@DRGW168 haha im 15 now and ive found running others people equipment is alot funner. no need for a loco yet. i take care of enough engines and have built some rolling stock. Will go for a loco when im older and can handle the cost
Cool, I have run some small scale stuff before. A 7 1/2'' gauge K-4 was the first steam locomotive I've ever run and that was one of the best times in my life. I too have been trying to save up for a live steam locomotive or a speeder or maybe both. But since your fifteen my best suggestion is to take METAL SHOP, My metal shop teacher was into trains too and I talked to him about building a locomotive but the school cut shop class the next year. So I'll get a locomotive someday.
Thats a good idea. I was like that (running other peoples engines) until recently, when I bought a 3 1/2" gauge 4-4-2 GNR Atlantic off a friend. I am the youngest person (i'm only a teenager) with a loco in our club, its hard work but worth it. I am also about to start building another 3 1/2" gauge engine. The good thing about having your own loco is you can run it when ever you want and take it wherever you want. But running other peoples equipment is good too.
@EastwoodBirds the small gauge is very nice but over here on west coast only two clubs offer track to run on. otherwise its all 7.5. we have a club owned allen american i have become the care taker of and its nice we are smaller club so no one to fight over with it. we take it to other clubs and have been able to travel with it to many meets and clubs. very lucky !
Hi, The prints for building this loco were published in Live Steam magazine over several years, off hand I don't remember which issues.... There are books available with all the prints in it, and they come up on Ebay sometimes or you can get them through LS Magazine... I have no idea what this loco would be worth, maybe somewhere in the 3K-6K range???
i had an HO scale model of this exact train :)

Are you firing her with bituminous or anthracite?
jlg4880 2 years ago
A friend gave me a bucket of what I think is called "welsh steam coal" it works great!
jjh122 2 years ago
Anthracite burns at a temperature much too high to be used for anything like this.

Yes you are right, the tender does leak there...good eye!!
jjh122 3 years ago
Is your tender leaking? I thought I saw a drip line on the back engineer corner. Maybe it was overfill... Nice locomotive!

Very, very nice! I was going to build one in 1" scale. I still may do it but I need more experience. Again, very nice loco and good luck with it!!!!
