@lufah234 You could seal it up like that, but then you might have trouble cleaning the system out. Hydro systems tend to get pretty gunked and caked after a cycle or two, so I like to break down the entire thing. The seals overall are water tight, haven't had any leaks on this system (although funny enough, I have had on the capp ebb & grow buckets).
As for the panda film (reflective stuff) I like it compared to the mylar, mostly due to its durability, and being cheaper than mylar.
Very informative video! I can see that you have everything planned since you actually made a diagram to ensure that you set up everything in order. Careful planning is really important to ensure that your homemade hydroponics system would be functional. By the way, thanks for the tip on the importance of putting a net to keep the hydroton from falling in and clogging the tube lines.
Looks good. I tried a system like this once but abandoned it because the fittings I was using leaked and the buckets cracked under the weight of the water. +1 for getting the right stuff the first time.
Why don't you use your controller bucket to grow one more plant?
@MrTurboMouse I probably will, but at the time I only had the three plants. The only thing I'm possibly worried about is roots clogging up the path to water and slowing up the system a bit. But I really doubt it would happen.
And yeah, the buckets cracking is a typical problem. Buckets I saw at the hydro store weren't very good for this, which is why I went for rubbermaid, since it rarely cracks. No leaks yet!
@mainstrains That's where I found that connector... the closest thing they had to a bulkhead in the entire home depot store! But it was marked as waterproof. They also had the 90 degree bend ones too. They work pretty well, but aren't exactly the right tool.
Dude ur racks look like they are going to collapse.

Great video, I learned a lot more in this video than the many other hours of videos I have researched. A few questions though:
Could you use silicon or epoxy to make better seals on the nozzles/hoses?
Is that reflective material you used preferable to mylar?

Check out my grow. I use Ice chests. They maintain perfect water temp for the roots and they do not let light in at all. Just a tip.
