Basically youre stating theyre worse because they became better, more diverse musicians. This song is very progressive for Black Metal and should be appreciated as such. The clean vocals on the acoustic passage were a great idea, and show that Kvarforth can sing quite well, and the shredding near the end is a great touch

@alastairmctavish You nailed it. People are always complaining that some bands were better before than nowadays. Well, in some cases it's true that some bands evolve in worse direction, but that happens.

And as Silenoz of Dimmu Borgir said, if the bands sticks in one place and plays the same stuff over and over, it won't let the genre evolve in any direction.

I like Shining's older and newer stuff evenly. Maybe newer Shining gets my vote more than the old. Depends on the mood and the day. :)

Klagopsalmer is by far the worst Shining effort yet. It is so disappointing - Halmsted was good, now old poser Kvarforth is pulling out some creed sounding clean singing and some Metallica Reload solo's. Also reminds me of Opeth slightly too.

@Harmonaharmona C'mon, give artists a chance try something new. At least they're making their songs musically diverse by trying something different. Not like Metallica, which music have stayed the same for too many years. And I don't think they're trying to sound like Halmstad or Eerie Cold. Should they make all their albums like previous albums? I don't understand how Klagopsalmer can be so bad compared to Halmstad. I think this album is really doing its duty properly.

@THETRUETELAL actually Shining's early albums did include "1 or 2 riffs" in most songs. Sure it's minimalist (as is with most DSBM) but it's all up to the eye of the beholder. I personally prefer the simplistic nature of Shining's earlier work (the songs feel more sombre than their more recent creations) but I'm glad that they have evolved. Most bands are stuck doing the same thing over and over *cough* Slayer *cough*

This album is pretty good after a few listens. There is more going on than in V-Halmstad, but it's still just as crunchy and melodic--i.e., the band hasn't devolved into writing empty, chaotic, meaningless passages which sound like shit and mean nothing in the name of being progressive or avant-garde (see: Deathspell Omega).

You have MANY things to learn my friend. I suggest you give one more chance to this band. Better start by listening firstly to "Kenose" then "Si Monumentum..." and at last "Fas Ite...". Trust me. Maybe it's not your taste and is ok ofcourse. BUT the characterisms you gave shows you have a bad taste of what quality means.
